I'm not sure if it really is ps controllers. It could be pc controllers shaped after the ps controller (almost all pc controllers I've ever seen resemble the ps controller). Take a look at the d-pad on the right controller, you'll notice the difference.

Or maybe Microsoft realized that competition always help the marketplace and since Sony suck so bad at advertising they thought they should give them a hand and help them sell some PS3.

SONY is probably saving that advert. money to advertise after this "game-war storm". Because, as of right now:

Wii is on a different plane than PS3, which equals little to no competition.

360 is down and (almost) out, which leaves the PS3 all by itself.

I mean, if your (almost) the only console standing, why advertise at the moment? SONY made consumers aware of what was in store for the PS3 from the start. Although advertising could boost sales by a few percents, it might be more prominent to do so later, after MS or Nintendo make their next console move. By that time, people will need to be refreshed on why the PS3 is (still) the better system. MS has always been a marketing roundhouse, so extra advertising the company does now is only keeping the console afloat.

Both sides are guilty of doing it. This ad probably was done in the same fashion as most. An advertising firm was most likely hired to do it, and people who don't give a crap about this little underground war agreed that it was a quality ad and approved it. They may have a marketing department but that doesn't mean they never outsource.

Those kids were using an adapter to Play PC games with their otherwise useless PS 2 controllers, it demonstrates the versatility of Vista and it encourages recycling. yeah .... that's it.

Not to mention what they initially had to pay to get the LICENSE and RIGHTS to use the most popular OS in the world(91% of the market is Windows, 8% is Leopard, and 1% is Linux) which was a HELL of a lot of money. Stop worrying about how they do business people. Just enjoy the results.

Who says they are PS controllers? There are many third party pads that looks almost identical to PS and Xbox controllers.

No one realises that this may have NOT been a mistake after all.

Remember, they are advertising VISTA.

Any ps2 owner will recognise those controllers. Hence MS is reaching a marketing audience of over 120+ million ps2 owners by using those controllers (as well as the indifferent demographic).
By using a xbox360 controller they would have most likely been preaching to the already converted MS fans! What would be the point of that?

By using the Ps2 controllers they are potentially reaching an audience which has had very little to do with Windows PCs so far.

In terms of avertising demographics, more users will identify with ps2 controllers than anything else so far, hence giving the advertisement more market penetration.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.

Is this like the 10th quarter in a row they're down 33% on hardware how is that even mathematically possible. You would think their mediocrity would Plateau
