I dont think a game has to be original as long as it's good, although originality does help all the same.
This is my way of thinking of course, but if you're just going to follow a trend then what's the point of getting into any industry that demands creativity? I think if you are going to make something similar then you hafto set it apart from everything else
Atmosphere and art style make a big difference in my book. I’m a big fan of the environment being a character. Whether it’s a creepy dystopia like bioshock, a ravaged space station like prey, or just weird spaces like the building in control. These are easily my favorite style of games. Exploring the atmosphere for story will always be a formula I adore. It’s the little things that separate them apart for me. And that’s good enough.
As far as MP goes? People want the same thing. Probably just little changes.
To succeed? It bears no relevance. Originality is not a factor.
