i called in a rrod earlier this week. when i told them 3 red lights they immediately told me it was covered as a faulty hardware problem and they would be sending me a box. no mention of any warranty and the system i called in was from 2006 so we know the standard warranty is past due.

look at Sony, they found out about some problem with their laptops they had to recall all of them i dun remember the full details but its something like that, they had some problem with another device they also recalled it just to give the consumer the thing he paid for, not something that would brake, and brake by what, a game that was made for it, or a service given by the same company that made the console, and if your warranty is finished u would have to pay for their own mistake???

The Xbox 360 came out in 2005 in the states not 2006....

So i got a few months left on my warranty. I have not had a RROD on it yet...but I rarely play it. I am thinking of upgrading to the NXE tonight...wish me luck.

My PS3 is flawless...so is my wii. All 3 flawless so far...i am just scared for the Xbox 360...

All I can say to all the Haters is this. If a console can break as much as the xbox 360 does and believe me I know firsthand that it does. Yet still sell more than the ps3 that has to say something. The first part is obviously the price point. We all know the 360 costs less than the Playstation 3, but what else is it ? It's the games my friends. I know all you cronies will flame me instead of actually bringing up a legit argument and that's fine. I know the type of people i'm dealing with here so I don't expect too much. The only game I have any interest in that I cannot play is Metal Gear. LBP does not interest me at all I have Mario for the Wii so i'm good in that department. Every other game worth playing you can buy for the 360 as well and to be honest half of the time they run better on the xbox. So let's review here cheaper console with same games as the more expensive console. I don't think it's hard to figure out why people keep buying 360's. RROD FOR LIFE !!!

You gotta admire these xbutts for putting up with MS. If this was Sony or any other company with a failure rate this high on any piece of electronics that I owned, I would have abandoned them long ago.

It is amazing the number of people that have a vast wealth of knowledge and expertise with the 360's RROD issue but don't own a 360. It is quiet amazing really. I have had two launch consoles go on me but the replacements were fast and i still love playing my 360.

i got RRoD while updating to NXE and i know two others that have. But saying that i know more who havnt had RRoD!

Never mind any way, i still got the PS3 to keep me more than happy with R2 and LBP :)

it's like the story of the christmas ghost of the past, present and the future. RROD's will never go away. it's a legacy that they have brought up to this world. it's going to haunt microsoft or the xbox brand forever... sad but true, but not for me because i got a sony brand that is synonymous with quality and that is my ps3!

BUT there are some good reasons why to buy a new one.
Such as all your friends got one or you've spent too much money on it (games etc).

One alternative reason may be:
Xbox360 is exploitable on a very old firmware version. Exploitable as in "homebrew enabled". MS found out, they included some special procedure in the update which blows a special fuse on the motherboard (e-fuse).

People with older 360's found a way to keep the fuse in-tact (by removing a particular resistor from the MB).

It seems that if you have the resistor removed while installing the nXe - it bricks giving you an E80 error.

In other words: the problem of bricking can only get to you if you do some really hardcore modding on purpose.

The NXE update is the first which actually
checked if an eFuse got blown during the
update. People with R6T3 removed will
get an error that way

Check xboxhacker's forums for more
accurate info.

An other note:

Your Xbox 360 warranty is extended every time you get a replaced console. I am a super casual gamer and had my launch Xbox 360 RRoD this summer. It was no big deal, and customer service was great. The replacement arrived in less than a week and I even got some free arcade games and Xbox Live coupons.

Downloading software cannot cause your system to instantly overheat and RRoD. If anything it’s the 4 rings of light which means a display cord issue.

If their console is a launch console and it hasn’t RRoD’ed in 3 years then I see nothing wrong with their warranty expiring (its got to some time)

My console updated with no problems.

Final note:
Think about it for a minute.
Tens of thousands (possibly hundreds of thousands),
got to get into preview programs for the NXE and got it early.

There was no outcry until today.
This leads me to think that PS3 fanboys are fueling more of these "fake" reports of problems.

Everyone I know has had NO problems updating.
