Developer says they've seen tech, will look at it, likes new hardware because it allows them to do more. Essentially what everyone is saying. Nothing new or even close to notable here.

bouzebbal2215d ago

And the point of your post is??
Yes, the article brings hope to see supermassive develop something great on ps5 soon. So definitely relevant..

KwietStorm_BLM2215d ago

His point is the "point" of the "article" is superfluous, as not only should it be obvious that developers currently developing or looking to develop on PS5 are having discussions about the controller for said platform, but it's also needless to say that everyone has been wondering about it's new features, as Christopher stated.

Christopher2215d ago

It does nothing of the sort. If anything, this article told me that whatever Supermassive develops won't be based on DS5 or the PS5, but on their own creative powers because they provided nothing that said that any element would be utilized specifically to improve their games at all. You know, kind of the same way people talked about the touchpad and lightbar on the DS4 and yet is very rarely utilized to its potential even by Sony 1st-party studios (huge props to Days Gone for best menu UI that is intuitive and seamless, though).

Eonjay2215d ago

But Chris, that describes the vast majority of all next gen news and even some current gen news.

Christopher2215d ago

***But Chris, that describes the vast majority of all next gen news and even some current gen news.***

And I think that's a sad state of affairs. People posting developers saying generic comments that don't solidify or specify anything other than "we've seen it, we're looking at it, that's all folks." I get it's a slow news period, but the churning of the 24/7 news cycle moves people to post this, and it doesn't encourage people to post better when people click for the sake of clicking rather than the content itself.

^^^ That's my opinion, not a representation of my job, btw.

Eonjay2214d ago

Agreed but you would have some kind of quality threshold in approvals. Otherwise it ends up being N4G itself that allows it. Not to knock you of course and I only criticize because I love N4G.

What were the most underlooked features of DS4 and that many devs didn't use well didn't use at all back then?
It was the touchpad and gyro.
Knowing that many devs use the lightbar, the monospeaker and vibration well, we can expect almost all to use those normally with added haptic feedback and trigger resistance.
Supermassive already touchpad, gyro and microphone for DS4 and they are thinking to use those features again with DS (pls the extra features).

I am happy that their enxt game at least, will use all DS features.

Christopher2215d ago

Sensebar is only utilized in VR for tracking by the camera. Outside of that, it's not used. It's internal accelerometers that people confused with the sensebar.

Sharky2312215d ago

@Christopher

Supermassive utilized the light bar in Until Dawn. They used a lot of the DS4 features. That’s probably the reason for the article. I’m just sayin...

Christopher2215d ago (Edited 2215d ago )

***Supermassive utilized the light bar in Until Dawn. They used a lot of the DS4 features. That’s probably the reason for the article. I’m just sayin...***

1. It was originally developed as a Move title.
2. It didn't use the sensebar, it used built-in accelerometers and gyros for detecting movement as the sensebar can only be detected by an external camera. Again, people get really confused over this item.
3. This proves my point exactly in that they originally had plans for Move but moved to just using normal DS4, forgoing the technology to which they were originally drawn.

terstomp2215d ago (Edited 2215d ago )

The gyro is a must for things like GT Sport. No need to purchase a separate wheel. The gyro works perfectly. To say its not used, when it was used extremely successfully by one their top tier games, shows you got your head stuck in the sand.

You seem to get really upset when someone new talks about or offer a different viewpoint on Sonys new hardware, often resulting in censorship galore. Why is that?

Christopher2215d ago

Probably the same reasons you don't understand the person to whom you are replying. Calling out pointless interview portions isn't critical of Sony or DS5. And you think I'm critical of DS5 when I fail both negative and positive opinion pieces that are clickbait/not really opinion pieces but regurgitated news.

arkard2215d ago

He also finds stupid reasons to remove Sony or Sony game focused articles. Got to push a narrative on this site.

Thundercat772215d ago (Edited 2215d ago )

The same should be apply to Xbox Xseries articles. Let's enforce transparency.

Rude-ro2215d ago

And? Spencer sneezes and every media outlet writes 20 articles about how it just changed gaming... for what THEY will supposedly do... I have never seen you have an issue with that.

Christopher2215d ago

Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it's not there. Failed plenty of submissions of the type you mention. The only reason this is here is that it's part of an official interview and not just a tweet or the like.

rainslacker2215d ago

It's about akin to any given gamingbolt article. It's nice to see you give some input on the relevance of meaningless quotes from devs that are gleaned through interviews. Perhaps the next step would be to ask if they're worth keeping on the site.

yomfweeee2215d ago

Change the rules so pointless articles can't be posted on here then.

Elda2215d ago

Nothing new for you, other folks may find the article interesting.

Dragonscale2215d ago (Edited 2215d ago )

Wonder if you'd say the same if it was about the next xbox controller. Also Supermassive games tend to be PlayStation exclusives so it is relevant as much as you protest. You are showing your true colours tbh.

HICK2214d ago

Oh you're the guy who somehow fails all Sony articles I try to comment on...what is wrong with you? Makes you feel fulfilled maybe?

HICK2213d ago

@Christopher I wasn't meaning you only fail Sony articles, just the few I try to comment on. I appreciate the links though. Is this something new to n4g where you fail stuff? Maybe some community education can help people like me understand what is going on? Thanks.

It would be interesting to see SM continue the attempt to add voice recognition in their games with or without Dualsense. Dualsense would be easy pick up and play though on PS5.

Similar to Inpatient VR dialog choices while trying to add something like PS2's Lifeline game. It was interesting but limited at the time. If added to a horror game where you and a virtual character are trying to survive and you tell them to run-hide-shoot-close the door, etc. It would bring the player interaction deeper into a game. Closer to interacting with NPCs.

We know it can work when done right as I never had a problem with voice commands in Star Trek Bridge Crew using IBM Watson. Even though they removed it later because of cost or gamer use. It worked. You could even say what was not expected. Instead of saying "Engage" to go to warp like Captain Picard. You could say "Punch it!" Like Captain Pike said in ST 2009. But the game never told you what to say. But if you knew Trek, you knew what to say or try.

There's potential though. More powerful systems. Built in mic and speaker. And even VR support on console and PC. Envelopes need to be pushed forward. Not just in graphics. We already see sound and touch getting improvements. Voice should too since PS5 seems to be supporting it with Dualsense.

Profchaos2215d ago

They should probably stay away from VR games though they have only launched one good VR game and it was until dawn based and very simple. Outside of this they made the terrible Bravo team and mediocre the inpatient.
They still don't really get the medium

xX-oldboy-Xx2215d ago

The only way to get better is to keep trying and Blood Rush was one of the better launch games.

rainslacker2215d ago

I'd rather they make a non-VR sequel to UD. Or, it can have VR, but can be played without. Kind of like RE was done. UD was a sleeper hit early in the gen. Kind of came out of nowhere, despite having been in development for quite a while.

ApocalypseShadow2215d ago

It wasn't VR itself. Management got greedy and overworked their employees that led to average, rushed games out the door instead of doing their very best on each release.

They struck gold three times in and out of VR(they also developed Tumble VR). They just needed patience. If you do your best and do it right the first time, accolades and praise would come naturally. Pressure to produce after Until Dawn would not have materialized. It would have been easy peasy.

No one says anything about Survios because they try their best on each release and have been successful in VR. Now they got The Walking Dead coming.

I want SM to continue to push VR. If Dual Sense is used, I think they can surprise gamers with innovation by pioneering voice in games that work. I mean there are gamers implementing voice in games and stuff like this is year's old but should already be in games as an option
https://youtu.be/W6SECeLL3h...
https://youtu.be/eCIVUNU2O9...
Even Kinect had it for Skyrim
https://youtu.be/svdVV4CYZj...
and there are PC mods that have amazing voice control for Skyrim voice.

Whatever they do, they need to do it right.

TheHateTheyGive2215d ago

Good deal, was afraid they were going to be bought by sony. I'm leaning towards series X because microsoft pays me to browse with bing and i use them points on game pass. I love playing Supermassive's games.

BehindTheRows2215d ago (Edited 2215d ago )

And you could have played their games if they were bought by Sony — it's called, buy the system the games are available on. Beyond that, they're making PS5 exclusives anyway, so you'll still need the platform if you "love Supermassive's games".

Developer 1, "do you think it looks like a girl’s torso in a tank top with boobs sticking out?" Developer 2, "yes good point, good conversation."
