the rumored switch pro perhaps....?

phoenixwing2281d ago

if it's a switch pro i'll be upset with nintendo. They came out and said they weren't doing one at all and had no plans. Taking their words at face value I bought a switch lite. If all of a sudden the switch lite loses support I'm going to be an unhappy customer.

PyroMessiah862280d ago

It won't lose support, it's a fair new device. Though Switch Lite I never understood....a Switch that doesn't.... Switch.

I've held off grabbing one as it was already mid to late gen for it and knew a Pro or upgrade wouldn't be far off. I'll probably grab the next release

TheLeapist2280d ago (Edited 2280d ago )

What they actually said is there would be no new models of the switch this year at all, not just a pro version. So either way, if this new hardware model is real, whether it's a pro or more a slight alteration like we saw last year for the standard switch, it'll still make liars out of nintendo.

ElementX2280d ago

They said they had no plans, but plans change. Nothing is written in stone

JunMei2280d ago

Actually, they just said no new Switch model in 2020.

NotoriousWhiz2280d ago

Chances of a switch pro this year are slim to none. They can't even produce enough normal Switches right now.

xTheMercenary_2280d ago

They said the same thing the year the switch lite was released. I wouldnt be suprised if they announce it.

Kumakai2280d ago

the pro wouldn't compete with the lite. the lite would be the low end, the regular switch the base and the pro would be the high end, just like xbox and playstation did. history also shows us that nintendo offers support for even older products for a substantially long time.

MeteorPanda2280d ago

l'd be pissed too, l just bought a standard switch.

Bleucrunch2280d ago

My first question to you is why would you purchase the lite? I mean as far as consoles go it's at the lower end of the totem pole. So based on your purchase you didn't care much for the pro. The pro should be a more powerful version of the console so I imagine it would be better than the lite. Nintendo said it has no plans, well I would surmise that the plan has changed. Did you not factor in that they could change their mind?

Second question, why do you believe ANYTHING Nintendo says? They are a business and will do what they feel will get them an extra buck. They will need to update the switch and its hardware soon to keep them relevant in the market.

Man I hope so because Nintendo needs a Nintendo switch pro seeing how next generation consoles are coming soon idk when because of this virus but still tho Nintendo needs to put out a Nintendo switch pro

Takwin2280d ago

I really hope it's a Switch Pro. I'll upgrade and sell the OG Switch to someone else who doesn't care about the pro. People are buying and playing a lot of Switch lately!

jkuli62280d ago

agreed. especially if it has better battery life

Bigman4k2280d ago

Nintendo Switch V.2 model has better battery life

HeisenbergX2280d ago

Me too .. just hope it won’t be too expensive.

sinspirit2280d ago (Edited 2280d ago )

I've been wanting one since it came out. I've been very happy with the OG one, but I could see immediately how it would evolve. Just imagine a 1080p/90hz OLED in your hands and the power to push 60fps in demanding games. We're able to do it right now, and phones are marked up considerably higher than their manufacturing cost. This could come out as a big update to a guaranteed selling product. And with DLSS improvements, it could be amazing.

Bigman4k2280d ago (Edited 2280d ago )

That would be nice but Nintendo are cheap they rather save money and cut corners wherever they can on their hardware

Outlawzz2280d ago (Edited 2280d ago )

My launch switch is all beat up and ready for an upgrade. Hope they announce this soon

silenthillstrangler2280d ago

It would be hilarious if Nintendo lied straight to our faces.

TheColbertinator2280d ago

Seen Nintendo do this for over 30 years and wouldn't be surprised if they did.

IanTH2280d ago (Edited 2280d ago )

All companies, at one time or another, do. I will forever take everything Phil Spencer says with a grain of salt after the whole "hardware exclusives are important" followed by "OK, Xbox games are coming to PC, but not these ones because they started too late in development to switch to PC" to "oh, look at that. This one's cancelled, that one is coming out day and date with the console version, this one is coming out 2 months later..." As a PC owner, I didn't need that Xbox hardware just months after he told me - straight to my face - Xbox hardware was going to be necessary for playing certain games on.

I've taken that lesson and will apply it to every company - they say what they have to, to sell what they can, when they can, and they don't care if they have to "fudge the truth" to do it. I'm salty, but it made this already shrewd consumer even shrewder lol.

PyroMessiah862280d ago

It's their company, they can make what the hell they like

danny8182280d ago

They legit always do. They say how the new hardware won’t mean previous hardware support.

I don’t think the main Switch model will ever get a more powerful “pro” version. I do however think that the Switch Lite will eventually get a “pro” model that includes a 1080p screen and will be able to run Switch games at the same level as a docked regular Switch.

IanTH2280d ago

That doesn't make a ton of sense, in my opinion. The difference between 720p and 1080p in handheld would be fairly negligible, and it would only serve to eat into battery faster. There are bigger games, like Doom, that just can't hit 720p 30fps (and struggles occasionally to hit ~360p at 30fps), so I'd imagine any extra grunt would go towards powering more demanding games to hold 720p native at 30fps, and more of the 30fps games to hit 60fps.

Larrysweet2280d ago

Yea that may be worse theory yet and never gonna happen

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle75d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted
