Meh, not too excited for this one. I'm waiting for the reviews. Embargo ends tomorrow so I can't wait. :)

ThatCanadianGuy6404d ago

Im not to hyped for it either.I'll probably go check Blockbuster tommorow to see if there's any copies in.If not, meh.

EvilCackle6404d ago

Famitsu really liked it but I would like to see a Western publication's review, yeah.

ErcsYou6404d ago (Edited 6404d ago )

The only review i have seen is from game informer magazine... they gave it a 7 and a 6 ...

sunnygrg6404d ago

This game has gone off my radar. There are too many good games coming at the moment. I will instead try L4D. Anyone seen the Game Informer's review (7/10)?

Even if this game is AAA/AA quality it won't sell more than a million copies on 360.See Tales of Vesperia for proof.

Square are really digging themselves into a deep hole this gen,the best JRPG so far-Valkyria Chronicles, isn't even made by Square. It's made by FRIGGIN SEGA!And the second best JRPG of this gen,Tales of Vesperia,is made by NAMCO!The highest SHIPPING JRPG of this gen is Lost Odyssey. And guess what? It's not made by Square.

What have Square made this gen that will be remembered next-gen?Final Fantasy port to DS?I really hope Sony JP offer Nomura a job after he's done with FF13-VS,cause Square is officially turning into a mediocre RPG maker.

EvilCackle6404d ago

Sadly, yes, a remake of FF7 for PS3/360 would end up trumping this game.

Kamikaze1356404d ago

Yeah man, I was shocked as well! I didn't even know it was made by Sega till I saw their logo on the boot screen. It REALLY took me by surprise. I hope Sega decides to make more RPG games this gen. Square-Enix started going downhill around the time they...well...became Square-Enix. Squaresoft made good games and Enix made good games, but together they suck!

I really wish they would separate and start making their own games again. If they continue this trend, then expect in a few years for Square-Enix to go out of business after people stop buying their remakes.

Fobuo6404d ago

Famitsu really liked Haze, but we all know how that one turned out.

If this game doesn't receive 10s and 9s from American and European publications,it will be deemed a flop by gamers all around.

Isn't it amazing? This generation of videogames has completely ruined the perception of a good game, everything must be a 9 and above to be a success.

We all know who started the "AAA game" mess;GameSpot and Microsoft.

EvilCackle6404d ago

I should've explained that comment better. It's not that I don't trust Eastern magazines, it's just that I want to read a full length English review rather than a couple translated excerpts.

superman6404d ago

I really want to get this game. Vesperia isn't released here yet and i haven't had a good rpg to play since Lost Odyssey. Will see how reviews are but chances point to me still getting it.

can't wait to add this game to my jrpg collection

While I agree that the combat in Star Ocean 5's combat is pretty fun, saying that its story is more enjoyable than its predecessors is highly debatable. Also, it's not just the technical issues the game suffers from.

Gaming4Life19812317d ago

Star Ocean 5 was garbage and I was a huge star ocean fan.

Docmortem2318d ago

Completely disagree the games I played from the list all deserve their scores (Star Ocean, Nier, Tales of Zesteria, Type-0). While there are certainly people that love these games, they have flaws in many categories, that justify those scores.
Star Ocean especially bored the hell out of me. Lame story and face roll battle system (I finished the game anyway). These games are really niche and when rated by a broader public, fall short. In my opinion even in their own genre.

solideagle2318d ago

I personally have not played any game below 80 and thought wow this should have been 80-90 game. The only game I thought should have been 90 was Shadow Hearts II: Covenant. I am pretty sure there will be some games but average score usually is pretty good indication.

do you recommend any JRPG which you think were good/amazing but it didn't score well? I just purchased Tokyo xanadu but it seems way too slow like trails game but trail at least has good story. I will give it a shot

rainslacker2318d ago

I think there were quite a few JRPG games that got hit with lower meta scores last gen when all these reviewers were on their anti-anime tropes kick. Not that they should get up there into the high 80s or 90s, but they weren't 60-70 games either.

That's mostly died off this gen, thankfully

WickedLester2318d ago

Ni No Kuni 2 is way better than it's metascore.

solideagle2318d ago

I think Ni No Kuni 2 combat is pretty generic but if you add all DLCs then its combat is pretty awesome. I purchased the complete edition so I can say DLC changes the combat completely

FinalAeonX2318d ago

Ni no Kuni 1 is way better than its metascore

Father__Merrin2318d ago

meta scores are rubbish best ignore them. many gems out there

solideagle2318d ago (Edited 2318d ago )

can you please name few?

Kocurstvo2317d ago (Edited 2317d ago )

Useless to argument troll, but e.g. Eat Lead is hilarious and extremely funny, yet mediocre on metastupids.... Lords of the Fallen, Strange brigade... I could name hundreds

It's a good game, but the story is only okay. The gameplay is where the game really shines, but the game itself does an atrocious job of explaining it's own systems. Basically, you need to read a "what I wish I knew before I started" somewhere online, and then the game becomes great.
