The Xbox Series X master plan

How Microsoft is placing its bets on a transformative decade

Obscure_Observer2240d ago (Edited 2240d ago )

Phil Spencer restored Xbox and had build a solid foundation for a healthy and successful next generation of consoles.

Network and services - fixed.
Hardware - fixed
Now is all about the games. :)

Thundercat772240d ago

Still last in the market and loosing against its competitors - checked ✅

NewMonday2240d ago

even though Phil is doing a great job, the competition isn't slacking off. the original Xbox was great but the PS2 dominated because Sony didn't take their foot off the gas.

Obscure_Observer2240d ago

@Thundercat77

Lol. Next generation everything changes, dude. Nintendo cut the generation short, that´s why they´re in a better position right now.

Which company sells more consoles is a non issue for MS, Phil Spencer is forcing Xbox gamers to make the jump. Those gamers can continue to enjoy Xbox gamers on their outdated consoles and PCs till 2022.

Series X will sell for those who wants max visual fidelity and performance on consoles. A lot of PC gamers will also buy a SX and leave the PC behind. The costs to upgrade their PCs, nevermind buid one from zero to be on par with SX´s power, is just not worth it.

With all that on mind, I don´t care if Sony continues to dominate. :)

I hope you actually work for Sony @Thundercatt77?
With the level of PS bias you exhibit on just about every Series X article - you really should be getting paid.

Kingthrash3602239d ago

When phil first got in 7 years ago he was saying it's about the games.......7 years later still waiting on what was his first priority and most important thing in consoles gaming...the games....and he did a good job?

King_Noctis2239d ago (Edited 2239d ago )

There has been quite a few MS exclusive games released recently and a few more that will be releasing soon as well. And don’t pretend you don’t know what those games are.

So, what is there to wait for exactly?

Chevalier2239d ago

" There has been quite a few MS exclusive games released recently and a few more that will be releasing soon as well. And don’t pretend you don’t know what those games are."

Bleeding Edge was already in development before they got purchased apparently and Ori has been in development for 4 years or so. Gears Tactics and Flight Sim were already in development for 2 to 3 years as well. So 'recent' games aren't actually that recent.

What remains to be seen is what the pipeline and game releases will be going forward is what everyone is wondering.

“ Bleeding Edge was already in development before they got purchased apparently and Ori has been in development for 4 years or so. Gears Tactics and Flight Sim were already in development for 2 to 3 years as well. So 'recent' games aren't actually that recent. ”

How does that change the fact that those games are from MS and that they had been released, and some of them will be releasing soon? I mean, help me to understand this, you said that “their recent game aren’t recent”, so how long do you think a game take to develop? 1 month? 2 months? Your comment make absolutely no sense.

And how about games like Everwild and Grounded? Those games were just announced. What is the excuse for that now?

rlow12239d ago (Edited 2239d ago )

I second that. He has taken Xbox brand this generation and turned it around.
Really putting them into a strong position heading forward. In the podcast he talked about the importance of the games and now that the hardware is revealed, to put the focus on the games. Exciting times for Xbox Brand.

The way I see it, as someone who has only an Xbox one X currently, is I may as well get a ps5 early doors because I can continue to play future Xbox exclusives on my X. Getting the ps5 will enable me to enjoy PS exclusives too.
Plus I only have a 1080p tv, so how much benefit am I actually going to notice going from ps5 to series X otherwise anyway?
If, come 2022, Microsoft start making games exclusively for Series X, I can pick one up then and possibly cheaper.

Next gen is all win.

NeoGamer2322238d ago

I actually don't see a rush to buy either console. And I can't remember a generation where the debut exclusives of the generation were that much better then the previous generation. Many times the exclusives to start the generation rate poorly... Killzone Shadowfall, Ryse, Knack, etc weren't exactly the best games on the planet.

To me, this next gen is going to start a lot slower then previous gens. Sony is shipping Ghosts and TLOU2 this year on PS4. PS5 doesn't look loaded up with exclusives yet. In fact, Sony hasn't announced what will show at launch. And MS hasn't done much better.

lazyboyblue2238d ago

Well if the Lockhart rumours are true and that machine is even slightly less powerful than the X, I'm guessing it will be pitched at 1080p players. I'm not upgrading my X just for ssd.

medman2238d ago

@lazyboyblue
Sony has some amazing 1st party titles, no doubt. I had a 360 and ps3, but this gen I've stuck with a ps4 only. I plan on buying both the series x and ps5, but you make a great point about 1080p. If you're not set up and ready to run 4k@120hz games, the cost may not be worth it. Getting your set up prepared for hdmi 2.1, atmos, eARC, allm, vrr, etc. etc. and getting all your devices up to current spec isn't cheap. I've been waiting for a year like 2020 for awhile, a year where a lot of the tech (tv's, av receivers, game consoles,) all bring new updates that make it the right time for me to update my current gear. 2020 is that year so I'm personally pretty excited about it. I think this gen is going to be incredible.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing20d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit20d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing20d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
