Control's First Timed DLC Exclusivity Is Bizarre

In our latest editorial, we question the logic behind Control's Foundation DLC offering PS4 and PC players three months of exclusive access, bemoan the great teraflop debate for next gen hardware, and praise WRC 9 for bringing some much needed good news.

The whole game is bizarre, but in that very good way.

Spurg2242d ago

Remedy made a bad deal with 505 games. This whole Playstion timed exclusivity is just didn't payout.

CuVe2242d ago

Yet xbox fanboys like you are salty, so it worked. Nice.

JTGA2242d ago

Not salty... just... confused? By your kneejerk attempt to make everything about fanboyism, but also as to what 505 and Remedy are gaining here, especially since the second AWE expansion has been confirmed to be launching simultaneously.

Spurg2242d ago

It's not about being salty. I played the best version of the game on PC with RT on.
What didn't work is the fact that the game didn't sell despite its exclusivity. Sony didn't market the game...they hijack the marketing and didn't advertise the game at all. This stopped the game from being prosperous which was something Remedy wanted and the main reason for going multiplatform. 505 games made 2 bad deals with the published of Control exclusivity with Sony and on PC, the Epic game store.

No one wins with timed exclusive dlc

ninsigma2242d ago

3 months is a strange amount of time for exclusivity 🤔

Kumakai2242d ago (Edited 2242d ago )

lol power was such a huge deal in the console wars until ms had more of it. now it doesn't latter.
just lol. and also - timed exclusives are just big F You's to the consumer. They buy that exclusivity - the studios don't just give it to them cuz they think they're cool. Paying to be friends.

that being said - one of the best things about Control is how weird it is. I will embrace it. I'd play it right now on my ps4 pro - but since i bought it on Xbox to play on the One X for the best console experience, I am not going to buy it a second time... nor would I even play the DLC just simply out of protest at this point. I would say the same thing for an MS timed exclusive content too. Stupid. Just gimping the other side over money.

TricksterArrow2242d ago

MS almost ALWAYS had more power. And to be honest, if you want sheer power, just buy a PC.

King_Noctis2242d ago

You’re right. Timed-exclusive contents are stupid no matter which company does it. I just wish practices like these would go away.

monkey6022242d ago

I cant support timed DLC no matter what the platform. It's an awful practice

JTGA2242d ago

Especially for such a massive, spoiler filled expansion... and only for three months? Really odd.

Report: New Trademark for "Control: Resonant" Unearthed, Ahead of TGA

New evidence suggests a Control reveal is imminent. A trademark discovery ahead of The Game Awards hints at big news for Remedy's franchise.

Storm23164d ago

Control was really good. There was a ton of backtracking and running through the building from one end to the other a ton of times, but otherwise I loved it. Can't wait to see the sequel.

medman163d ago

Yeah it was awesome....looking forward to this reveal

REDGUM163d ago

I really enjoyed Control though without the mini map i found myself lost and or unsure of what to do too often and gave in on the game about 30% in.
Ive just re-downloaded it with the latest update with the enhanced graphics but unaure I'll dig back into it agaith with my current backlog.
Looking forward to seeing whats next from Remedy though.

toxic-inferno163d ago

I know exactly what you mean. I've played the game through twice and have had the same issue both times.

What I found on my latest playthrough was that the best way to navigate is to use the physical signs in-game as well as the map.

How the Remedy Connected Universe does the multiverse right

ScribbleCat said: Media is certainly no stranger to connecting all their properties together. Comic books have been doing this for generations, and TV is also known for special crossover episodes, which confirm the notion that they take place in the same fictional world. Video games, which can be barely called a new medium at this point, also have some interesting overlaps with connecting different games. For example, Valve’s Portal and Half-Life show how subtle hints can give players more theories to chew on. Old classics like DOOM and Wolfenstein also share similarities. But my favorite connection between games is the Remedy Connected Universe. While only a connection between Alan Wake and Control have been confirmed, there is SO much more to explore with Remedy’s crazy take on this old formula. And, according to Sam Lake, this is only the beginning.

SimpleSlave323d ago

They really should release the full Quantum Break experience on the PS5. Sure, it's a middle-of-the-road third-person shooter and a perfect example of self-indulgence, but why not? It was fun in short burst and it completes the Remedy set until Max Payne 1+2 Remakes get released later on.

Do it, Microsawft. Don't be cowards.

eh?
They better not mess much with the Max Payne Remake(s)

Yui_Suzumiya537d ago

Yeah but this was announced before the Max Payne Remake after all

LucasRuinedChildhood537d ago (Edited 537d ago )

What does "unlocking some previously released content" actually mean though? I would imagine it should be "previously unreleased content". Bit odd.

DaReapa537d ago

Right. Especially since the Ultimate Edition supposedly contained everything.

raWfodog537d ago

I only played about an hour of Control when I added it to my library back when it was one of the PS+ ‘free’ games. I’ll start it over again after the early 2025 update is dropped. I keep hearing that it’s a good game.

jznrpg537d ago

You can make that statement for any game. It’s called gameplay loop. Not everyone is going to enjoy the same loops but all games are repetitive by nature

RedDevils537d ago

Agree it was very boring game. Could not get into it. Remember me the game I played on PS3 is still better than this.

Chocoburger537d ago

These days "RPG" translates to constantly grinding for experience points, wasting time upgrading gear, and repeatedly collecting resources off the ground.

Please don't be an Ubishit style filler game.

Yui_Suzumiya537d ago

Hopefully it'll be more like Mass Effect

Amplitude537d ago (Edited 537d ago )

Remedy doesn't really make mistakes. It'll be good, I'm sure.

Inverno537d ago

So in other words it's an action game needlessly fluffed out with RPG mechanics and a pointless leveling system. I really enjoy RPGs when they're actually RPGs but modern action games really tire me out when they shoehorn in mechanics they don't need. All this does is make a 20 hour game into a 40 hour game because missions become locked behind level requirements, and enemies become damage sponges. It's not fun, it's tedious.
