Google Stadia is a total bust. What went wrong?

"Google Stadia was meant to be the next Gmail or Google Maps, setting standards that the competition had to catch up to meet. Instead, we got the other half of the coin. Stadia will join the benches with other disappointments like Google Plus and Google Spaces.

I don’t want to revel in the failure of Stadia. It’s honestly bittersweet. Google has always enjoyed having a finger in every pie of the tech world. The problem is how lackluster they become when those projects are not a high priority," Dylan Oliver writes.

You can’t go wrong if you were never right in the first place

So now let's see if MS gets it right...

Have you had the opportunity to try the beta of Xcloud yet? It definitely has some serious potential. Not having to repurchase the games is certainly a help.

Zeref2260d ago (Edited 2260d ago )

So far they are. Don't have to buy games separately. And when it launches. You'll be able to just pay gamepass and play hundreds of games on it via xCloud without having to own an Xbox. And let's say you eventually buy games and then get an Xbox. All of those games you bought will be ready to be downloaded at no extra cost on the Xbox.

And when you already own an Xbox you'll be able to play any game that you bought even without gamepass. Presumably they will require Xbox live gold though.

Meanwhile with stadia you still gotta buy 60 dollar games, on top of a subscription until their free tier launches, which you still need to buy games separately and have no access to them anywhere else. In xCloud beta you get to play 90 games for free 😂 or any Xbox game that you own via console streaming.

xCloud is so far ahead I don't see how Google could compete.

It's okay,
they've got Jade Raymond...
(to sit on the couch and talk about it for the next 5 years)
There's no limit to what she can't get Done.

thatguyhayat2261d ago

She hasn't done anything in years. She would be the worst person to ask whats going on

L7CHAPEL2260d ago

Yes, I know.
which is exactly what I said.
try reading it again.
and it isn't that she hasn't done anything in years,
she hasn't done anything EVER,
in her ENTIRE career, except sit and talk...

Poor execution. You have the entire android OS on your side.. you could’ve had a free rollout like Xcloud but on a bigger scale right under your fingers Googles.

Worked out the kinks and data until they received positive feedback THEN dropped the console.

They jumped in balls deep way too early with the tech because someone in their higher ups is way out of touch with the reality of things and now they pay the price.

Darkegg2260d ago (Edited 2260d ago )

Nvidia have their gamestream. And they worked and have experience on android device. Google could have partnered up with nvidia to provide this streaming service as its not high in demand. and a different product. And forget this entering console war bc they didn’t really enter. Entering means they actually create a console which i hoped they would do.. build an android console rivalling PS5 or XBox Series X. Make android console respectable. As of now the android console history is laughable. Ouya? Fire Tv? Google had the chance to rewrite history for the android home entertainment system. The only way google can enter is to take the established android library with them and add triple A exclusives. Then they will catch attention. People want value so cant leave that library.. hell i just wished they have nvidia console with SSD with option to add external + first party exclusives. Thats all they had to do.

Streaming just sucks. I like it as an option but not as my main means of playing. And i wish there were a way to play the iOS and android playstore games locally on my tv. On a dedicated console so i can clean up and declutter my phone which has too much mishmosh.

Very true.
If Google decides to make a true console like PS5/XSX (with support from major 3rd party publishers), but running Android without any limitations on apps that it could run, Google might actually give PlayStation and Microsoft a run for their money.
Might even make a streaming box worth owning. Imagine controlling your A/C, ordering a pizza and playing games with one device! Kinda creepy in my own personal opinion, but undeniably this has some mass market potential.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio22d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing22d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9222d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit22d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing22d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9222d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
