Microsoft Airing 'Xbox Series X + Project xCloud' Livestream Next Week

A talk entitled 'Xbox Series X + Project xCloud = New Chapter in Gaming' is airing on Mixer next week. Microsoft hasn't specifically said the talk will include new information, but the interaction between Series X and xCloud (Microsoft's game streaming service) is still relatively unexplored.

Airing: Wednesday, March 18 at 11:40am Pacific / 2:40pm Eastern / 6:40pm UK (that's March 19 at 5:40am AET).

Jin_Sakai2138d ago

Excited to hear more about Series X. Could care less about xCloud.

mrmikew20182138d ago

Great, MS is about to release more info on the Series X, while Sony is talking about releasing a three year old game on the PC and keeping radio silence on the PS5.....good job Sony.

RpgSama2138d ago (Edited 2138d ago )

They also talked about releasing Dreams, The Last of Us and Ghost of Tsushima for PS4, probably 3 of the best games of the entire generation of consoles in a single year, but ok, might as well leave all of that to the side to start talking about a product that we cannot even buy until the end of the year

Only with gaming we have the need to talk and reveal things so far in advance, for cellphones as recently as last month they did the official reveal of the Samsung new line of products to release this month and nobody complained.

Gamehard2138d ago

Yeah Sony is really dropping the ball with all this silence about ps5, and MS releasing all this info about specs for the new system that won't be out for about 8 months minimum. I guess in the meantime, PS4 owners will just have to settle for playing all these amazing games coming in the next few months. Hard times indeed.

xX-oldboy-Xx2138d ago

mrmike - Sony are doing a great job, with what little information they've released your still thinking/talking about them.

Imagine they actually do release some information - you're likely to explode with excitement.

I'd say that's a job very well done.

moriarty18892138d ago

yeah they sure arent saying anything about ps5......its weird.

GTgamer2138d ago (Edited 2138d ago )

I'm confused here why do guys think both companies have to announce details at the same time 🙄 Sony and Microsoft both have their own plans. I swear you guys are so dense not mention Sony was the first to go in full detail about their next gen console but apparently now their dropping the ball because?

Rude-ro2138d ago

Funny how things like having to pay for Xbox live to play free to play games makes no noise while you are worried about next gen... since there is no current gen for Microsoft. 😂
Cod br just released and is completely free on psn... Xbox? 😂
And I’m sorry, where do the ghost, final fantasy, last of us 2 conversations fall into your “talking about three year old games”?
Stupid is stupid does.

Father__Merrin2138d ago

Xbox has zero games coming out unless u can prove me wrong? Last of us 2 which is likely gotg also ghosts tsushima and dreams and others. Whikst you've only got text on your screen lol we've got actually AAA games untill Ps5 releases this year

Atanasrikard2138d ago

@father_merrin

Ori and the Will of the Wisps comes out tomorrow. You have been proven wrong.

2138d ago
yomfweeee2138d ago

Does it take you all 8 months to make a decision about next gen? Good God you all think Sony is going to reveal something because of crying internet folk.

2138d ago
rainslacker2138d ago

Don't feel bad. If Sony talked about PS5 before this live stream, no one would pay attention to the live stream. People cared more about Sony not saying anything, than MS actual spec reveal, so since the specs are out of the way for MS, and people are already lukewarm or icecold on xCloud, it's probably best for MS that Sony is staying silent.

ElementX2138d ago

@generic
Reeducation crusade? LOL, a bit melodramatic there. Pointing out mistakes is how people realize they've made an error.

SegaGamer2138d ago

@genericgamer01

"We all know that most people that say this say it incorrectly"

If that is the case, then shouldn't correcting people be encouraged?

darthv722138d ago

@generic, didn't your grandmother ever correct you for saying the wrong thing? I know mine did so it's become somewhat of a habit to do the same. Otherwise people will go through life using the wrong expressions and never be told they are using it wrong. I'm not saying we are all grammar Nazis but just people helping people. Is that so bad?

Muzikguy2138d ago

@generic

So let the dumbing down continue? I don't get where people started to feel like they didn't need to learn anymore

DJStotty2137d ago (Edited 2137d ago )

@generic

Yeah your right, let's educate stupidness. People that say/do things wrong, need to be corrected to educate them and make the human race smarter.

The irony of them live streaming... about live streaming

strayanalog2138d ago

It's definitely a high iron diet.

SegaGamer2138d ago (Edited 2138d ago )

That isn't irony.

porkChop2138d ago

Game streaming and live streaming aren't the same thing. There's no irony here.

2138d ago
rainslacker2138d ago (Edited 2138d ago )

You can watch TV, on your TV!

A unique selling point of the X1 at the reveal.

That's irony. This is just them talking about game streaming, on a live stream.

DJStotty2137d ago

Or maybe it is just because GDC has been re-scheduled, so rather than not speak about what they would have at GDC, they are just doing a live-stream.

Maybe.... just maybe...

rainslacker2137d ago

Ummm...yeah. That's probably why they're doing this. It makes sense. I was responding to the OP though, which said that this was ironic, which it really isn't. I provided an example of irony in the process.

It's almost like these conferences aren't needed, and they can distribute the same information they would have at these conferences by using live streams. Who'd have thought that was possible in this day and age. I heard it wasn't. Ironic huh?

Let's hear it. Hopefully some more juicy spec info.

timotim2138d ago

The virus thats going around is affecting everything all the same...yet Microsoft is still finding the resources and energy to get info out there to gamers and devs...I don't know why others can't do this same thing...

optimus2138d ago

they are actually. you should go outside of n4g every so often for news.

timotim2138d ago

I mean...we know it will be eventually...wouldn't be too smart to just put it on the shelves without saying anything haha. However, we should have been hearing things especially since they they were suppose to be at events that they pulled out of.

AnubisG2138d ago (Edited 2138d ago )

I'm subscribed to Playstation YT channel and to playstation on twitter among various video game developers and I haven't heard anything concrete about the PS5 other than a few rumors here and there.

IRetrouk2138d ago

Cant talk for nintendo as I dont follow any of their social media stuff and only pick up what I read here and other sites but as for sony...

April 2019, october 2019 and January 2020 for ps5 stuff.

Twitter and YouTube official channels have videos daily of what's coming to playstation, both big and small.

Ghosts release date was just announced,

Zero dawn for pc just announced,

Not listing all the other releases due but they all have videos up of those too.

I'd say they are doing a fine job of getting the info that they want to convey out there to their fans.

IRetrouk2138d ago (Edited 2138d ago )

We had ps5 stuff in april, october and January, more will follow when sony decides its time🤷‍♂️ they said as much on their ps5 signup page.

THC CELL2138d ago

Sony, speaking and saying nothing

Muzikguy2138d ago

You mean because of the PS5? There has been lots of other news just not the PS5.

Atticus_finch2138d ago (Edited 2138d ago )

You try too hard my dude.

RazzerRedux2138d ago

Good God......stop trying to make everything about Sony. Just be happy about the livestream. I know I am.

rainslacker2138d ago (Edited 2138d ago )

You mean like the interview posted today where they talked about putting Horizon on PC, and talked about some other stuff about their future plans, and games they were making?

That kind of thing?

I mean, if they're talking about that, maybe that's just more important to them to talk about right now. I know its strange to put stuff you're doing relatively soon and want to promote over something that will overshadow all that, but business are crazy like that and stuff.

Announcing PS5 specs right now will satiate the crowd that wants to act like Sony is doing poorly, and some of these media types who need to criticize Sony because they can't find anything interesting to talk about from MS own spec reveal. But if they have other things to talk about, that's Sony's call.

And you don't have to worry about Sony getting with devs. They've been doing PS5 support and discussions with devs for quite some time now. Devs don't need the gaming press to relay that info to them. They know this stuff long before the press, these leaks, and especially forum goers. Sony, and even MS, have places and resources available to get info out directly to devs, where the devs can talk directly back to them. Heck, if I wanted to, I could call up my Sony support representative tomorrow, or send him an email right now, or post on their forums, and get any information that I have NDA clearance to get.

MS is doing this stuff now because they feel the time is right. Sony isn't, because they don't feel the time is right. It's as simple as that. It's not about ability to distribute this info, it's the desire to.

Oh what timing... now that Portal is offering cloud streaming as well.

OtterX420d ago (Edited 420d ago )

Yea, it's incredible having titles available in handheld streaming format without having to have a console on. This is even better for traveling. I was messing around w it for the first time this morning and the quality was so good, I forgot at times that I was actually streaming. (1gbs) any minor imperfections aren't amplified like they would be on a big screen tv.

I guess XBox users can still do it if they have a Steam Deck, ROG etc, so nobody is left out. Streaming like this is best for handheld play IMO.

crazyCoconuts420d ago

I've tried streaming from various hotel chains while traveling. Hotel WiFi in general sucks and that makes streaming untenable

OtterX419d ago

@crazyCoconuts I guess it depends on your traveling style. I usually stay in privately owned hostels across our country who tend to invest more in good internet. I always check with them before I book.

OtterX419d ago

I just tested the Portal from our new home we're moving into, a 2 hour drive away and in the rural countryside where we have to run Starlink. No fibre available here, but getting 357 mbs, and I'm streaming my PS5 from our 1gbs at our old home. It's streaming perfectly, so not sure what you're going on about @crazycoconuts.

Neonridr420d ago

*for select titles, for premium members only..

Vits420d ago

What bothers me about this new Xbox offering is that you still need a Game Pass Ultimate subscription to play. It’s not like Stadia, where you could buy the game and play it without needing a subscription, which was only for extra features. So, who is this really meant for?

To use the service, you’d need to buy the game and keep paying for Game Pass Ultimate. That’s asking a lot, especially since Xbox console owners, who are probably the main audience for this, would likely prefer to just download the game and play it directly on their consoles. There’s a small case to be made for Xbox owners who travel often, but how big could that group really be?

As for Sony, their approach to streaming is also strange. They limit how games can be streamed locally. For example, the mobile app allows screen controls but doesn’t support most physical controllers, only the DualSense and, for some games, the DS4. Their reasoning seems to be that these controllers are needed for the proper features—yet the app lets you play with screen controls, and there’s even a third-party app that works with any controller.

Then there’s the Portal, which is basically a DualSense with a screen and an internet connection. But it’s only now getting cloud streaming, even though there’s no technical reason it couldn’t have had this from the start.

Bathyj420d ago

I was going to ask is this not what Portal is doing?

Are you telling me after all these years of bathering about cloud streaming you couldn't play your own games? WTactualF?

darthv72420d ago (Edited 420d ago )

playing your own games via streaming required the console (ala remote play). Now you can stream games you own without the need for the console to be on.

the xcloud beta was only for gamepass ultimate games and now you can stream ones you own regardless if they are in GPU or not.

Knushwood Butt420d ago

Power of da cloud, just a few years late.

redrum06420d ago

Still, that's for the Playstation Plus Premium/Extra library. This is for streaming games you own, which would've been nice to have on PS as well.

Kyizen420d ago

Different. Portal is catching up to Xbox Cloud Streaming but Xbox is catching up to Portal remote play feature it had at launch

darthv72420d ago

XB has always been able to stream games you own from the console (ala remote play).
The xcloud side let you stream without the console but only games in game pass.
NOW it is letting you stream games you own through xcloud without them needing to be in game pass.

All the Fck horizon, Concord, PS5 pro articles and comments really make it a ps fanatic site...are you delusional?

Redgrave420d ago

Such is the nature of any gaming related website. It is inevitable. Unavoidable.

Some do it out of passion, some out of self amusement, and some just wish to sow pointless discourse.

Xbox posts will have Playstation comments and vice versa. Here, there, everywhere.

Nooderus420d ago

VersusDMC Yes i think most of the people that frequent this site have a positive sony bias.

Rockstar420d ago

Alright, calm down! It's just the Internet

redrum06420d ago

I know, N4G is known to be a PS centric fanboy site, it's ridiculous. Instead of constantly downplaying Xbox in whatever they do, maybe just be happy for the other. Competition is a good thing to have.

Michiel1989420d ago

@nooderus I honetly think there's nothing wrong with bias, but it really does seem that critical thinking goes out the window because of it, that part I just don't understand. Wouldn't people want the company/product or what have you to do the best they can instead of accepting everything they shovel towards you because you like them?

Gamingsince1981420d ago

Every site is playstation biased, because every one likes playstation and xbox is dead, what do you expect. That's like saying "this food site has a biased towards good food but everyone hates eating poo, it's so unfair to poo eaters"

cooperdnizzle420d ago

Well if you were on this site like 15 years ago you would know, that it was 99% Xbox fans and if you were Sony fans you had to fight tooth and nail to just say a game was good.

Second people like PS now days because it is by far the better platform.

Nacho_Z420d ago

Only seems that way ("PS fanatism") because Sony is currently on top. Naturally there will be more positive articles and comments about the front runner.

neomahi420d ago

I really don't think Nintendo and PlayStation need to get caught up in this. Streaming isn't the future, yet and there's no rush to get into that market. If Nintendo is still selling a mass number of Nintendo Switch consoles, what does that tell you? It tells you Xbox is trying to stay relevant and bring everyone along with them, but, like PlayStation's own fans have been telling PlayStation "THATS NOT WHAT WE WANT" and PlayStation is learning the hard way they're not listening to their consumers like they were with the PS3 and PS5. But, this isn't what people want yet. Nintendos dabbling in it and PlayStation has been doing it since they acquired Gaikai, but it's never stuck. People that have been streaming movies and ditching it and collecting physical media again, it's slowly going back in that direction and they'll tell their gaming brethren not to fall for it. Theyre getting physical media and loading it on to their own servers to run on home servers within their walls THEY control, not the corporations that sell them a license, not a product they pay for and own. Imagine buying cloths or your house that can be repossessed whenever Nike, DC, Vans, or Reebok want to take back because it goes out of style when they say so.

Streaming may be the future but it's the distant future. Internet service providers can't even sustain that. Data caps still exist and internet isn't that fast as it's most affordable prices. You're attacking a REALLY niche market that's going to be received as well as the PS5 Pro. Xbox killed their brand with the Xbox One that wanted to integrate streaming into their games to further try and sell and incentivise Xbox Live and we saw that went. Streaming could very well cause the next gaming crash, is how I see it. The rest of the tech world isn't ready for that, especially during yet another trying economy

cooperdnizzle420d ago

Hey dude they can take your house back. It’s called property tax. Paying for something you already own.

But I agree, I have already had digital games taken from me. Sucks

jznrpg420d ago (Edited 420d ago )

More options are good but streaming as a whole has a lot of issues. I will always prefer dedicated hardware. I’m bring my PS with me when I travel. Internet is not good traveling

darthv72420d ago (Edited 420d ago )

A PS5 (even slim) does not make for a good travel companion. Meaning on the go, not in a closed environment like a hotel room, but on a plane or a train or an automobile... this is what works in all of those situations: https://images.purexbox.com...

Its nice an compact but obviously still bigger than a handheld. If you want that 'console' experience that is.

Rashers420d ago

That still requires power leads for both the console and screen.

127maXimus420d ago

Yeah but you would still have to buy them for Xbox.

Playstation was already doing this with Premium. A lot of the games I own are streamavle on PS5. I assume they will eventually add access to the Portal.

NotoriousWhiz421d ago

False. Only games Playstation allows you to stream are those available on PSN premium regardless of whether or not you own them.

What Microsoft is beginning to do is enable streaming of some titles even though they aren't part of game pass (as long as they are owned by the user)

Eonjay420d ago

It's not false. I bought Final Fantasy Rebirth on PSN and I can still stream it to my PS5 even though it's not part of Plus. Same with many many other titles. PlayStation has allowed this since they revamped their streaming service like a tear ago. This will eventually come to Portal streaming during the beta I am sure.

I would think their quarterly revenue will take a hit compared to a year ago, but will maybe make up for it throughout the year as the monthly GP subs keep coming in

Was up with call of duty man?
I downloaded cod on gamepass and for some reason I cannot access the game.

darthv72458d ago

just curious what version? There are some that you can pre-load, but they wont work until their release date later this month.

pwnmaster3000458d ago

I have to redownload it again for the 3rd time to check.
I ended up just deleting it to make room for other games after the second time.

It was on Xbox game pass, I didn’t know there was other versions. I just downloaded everything, but sadly I couldn’t even access the game. Maybe 3rd time the charm. I’ll download it again.

On xbox there is the last gen/current gen versions pc though you could also get a xbox version.

When that new forza first came out for one day they had the xbox version on the pc store i was like ? what it was odd.

On xbox you can easily download the one version of a game instead of the series version so you run into issues on your series console.
