Fix It Later Mentality Is Unacceptable

Michael DiMarco: More games are releasing in a broken, buggy, or unfinished state with the promise that they will be fixed over time in an ongoing trend that needs to stop.

Only took an entire generation for people to get to this point. Hopefully this sentiment grows and more and more people stop buying broken games.

I've been saying this for years.

I've been saying this with my wallet for years... This gen only bought one game from EA, one from Ubi since for me they are the worst of the worst...

And I hope more people crack their games next gen if they continue with these trend of releasing unfinished games at full price.

Let's see how they behave next gen...

Jsm89k2253d ago

This Gen along with last Gen I bought 0 EA game and 0 ubisoft games

StoneyYoshi2254d ago

For the first 30 minutes being a new experience.... sure lol.

-Foxtrot2254d ago

Yeah it is

It’s worse when a game comes out painfully unfinished and then fixes the issues, add more content years later only for the gaming community praising the developers for their commitment despite the fact they shouldn’t have released an unfinished game in the first place over promising us

Games that people have done this for include No Mans Sky, Sea of Thieves, Final Fantasy XV and Battlefront II

Stop it, we should judge games as they were presented to us on the release, not what was added down the line.

Fist4achin2254d ago

Agreed. If I turned in something unfinished at work for the deadline, I'd be looking for a new job.

JackBNimble2253d ago

Not if you could sell your unfinished work for full price.

This is why I don't preorder or buy day one. I usually wait a week after release so I can get user reviews before I buy anything.

Spenok2253d ago

Uh... no.

We should judge a game based on it's CURRENT state. If it launches in a crappy state, call them out. But don't ignore the effort that's put into the game over time because you're unwilling to let go of your upset attitude.

Should they release broken? HELL no, but I'm also not going to stay upset if they fix their mistake. That's why I just wait to buy games these days. If it launches broken, then I don't have to worry about having buying a broken game. If not, then I only lost a little bit of time around launch.

But, if they stick to their game, apologize for the crap launch, and ACTUALLY fix it while adding to the experience the whole time... I'm not going to ignore that either.

You can feel free to be a grumpy old man about this whole topic and stick to the mentality of never forgiving past mistakes. But I'll be over here enjoying games :)

-Foxtrot2253d ago

I'm not ignoring the effort, but I shouldn't be over praising them for doing shit that they should have given us at launch.

Everytime they update people over praise them like they've done such a good thing from the bottom of their hearts but really they are given us what we should have had ages ago. Praising them like that shows them that they can do what they want and the gaming community will just forgive them in a snap.

That's not being grumpy that's having standards and common sense man

Fixing a game is what they SHOULD be doing, why over hype the situation for things which we are expecting them to do in the first place. They know it's either fix it or loose money.

So yeah if you want to arse lick developers and show them it's fine to release unfinished games at launch because you'll be rooting for whatever they do after then go ahead but I prefer not to let them know they can screw us over.

rainslacker2253d ago

I think the point is judging them as unfinished on release, and not giving them the time to fix it, because it's set the trend that it's normal and acceptable. Give credit later if need be, but it's not some random unseen bugs creeping out at release, but rather games being released incomplete or buggy to the point of being broken.

Spenok2253d ago

You seem to have ignored my comment about NOT buying at launch so you can make an educated decision on the games performance/status etc.

And if you buy the game months (or years) later, they're going to have lost a major portion of the $$ you'd have given them buying at launch.

Just have common sense and don't buy right away. It's not that hard.

Urrakia342253d ago

Yea and then watch developers blame gamers for not "supporting" their new titles a.k.a. betas.

Since when did it become too much to ask for a properly functioning video game that is sold at full price at launch? If the game isn't ready to be released then delay it. This is simply bad business practice on their behalf.

CaptainOmega2254d ago

Don't buy games day one. If there are game breaking issues, don't buy it.

If there are small bugs, wait until they are fixed to buy It
