Google Stadia seems far away from living up to its promises- what’s going wrong?

It passed away. Cloud streaming is not the new hotness some wanted it to be

Ricegum2286d ago (Edited 2286d ago )

Streaming is definitely not the future, not in the foreseeable future anyway. The latency is just too much, especially for competitive multiplayer games. People who think one streaming service will be noticeably better or worse than another is in denial, the infrastructure just isn't ready for it at this point.

gamer78042286d ago

Right it’s fun to mess around with, so as an additional option it’s fine, but as the only option I don’t think it will be there for decades honestly, every time cloud starts to catch up resolutions or other aspects will increase making the cloud always a step behind.

starrman19852286d ago

I mean, on the chromecast with the stadia controller I have a better experience than on my PS4, zero noticable latency (compared to a console). The main issue is lack of adopters because of false information like this. I will say that I have a pretty decent home broadband speed though (up to 300mb).

lifeisgamesok2286d ago

Exactly. It'll never be better than playing games locally

Ron_Danger2286d ago

@starman

Are you saying stadia streaming on your chromecast is better than PSNow streaming or better than PS4 local gaming? Cause if you’re saying it’s better than local gaming you’re strait lying based off of buyers remorse.

UltraNova2286d ago

In all seriousness, streaming will remain as a distant option for at least 10-15 years until the internet and IPs are up to standard and available to the majority of gamers everywhere.

Meanwhile....I cant wait to see the grand "revival" when Xcloud is launched and all MS diehards go at it and the eventual fizzing out of streaming, again! Fun times ahead.

Army_of_Darkness2286d ago

@starrman
Running good for you because you have a whopping speed of 300mbps?! 🤣 Bro I have only 75mbps and I'm sure the average consumer has about my speed range more or less, so personally i don't think stadia is worth forking out the extra cash to increase my internet speed just to play games I can already enjoy on my ps4 without worries of having latency due to slower speeds...

No one actually but... I know must poeple did know it will suck as any game streaming service before... But a little part of us was hoping for a surprise success because google was behind it..... But look like it failed as expected

XxINFERNUSxX2286d ago

Nothing, it's crap and not needed.

banshyork2286d ago

Phil Harrison knows Stadia is sinking, but he is least bothered as he is getting his paychecks on time from Google.

rainslacker2286d ago

He'll take his payout when the bubble is at it's highest, and leave someone else to clean up the mess. Corporate America is stupid like that. You can fail at what you were put in place to do, but still get paid a stupid amount of money.

Is Cloud Gaming Finally Feasible In 2024?

Cloud gaming is being pushed by big corporations like Nvidia and Microsoft, but is streaming games online really that feasible?

Xcloud is still in beta so… also runs poorly and not good on all devices.

darthv72623d ago

It's been around long enough to drop the beta tag. It works really good if you have at least 100mb speed. When I had 50mb, it would lag. Once I doubled it, it was much better. And that is running on a phone, a PC and a cloud handheld.

"So, it wouldn't be far off to imagine a scenario where Microsoft would have signed a 10-year"

Like that would have saved Stadia. Ridiculously naive premise

isarai1158d ago (Edited 1158d ago )

No, it shot itself in the foot by not delivering on anything they promised. Besides the browser and multi device launching being easy, they failed to deliver on any other of their highly touted selling points. No game ran at 4k, or 60fps, or even at high settings let alone all 3 together. And honestly had some of the worst latency of any streaming service.

rippermcrip1158d ago

No reason to give Microsoft a reason to tout another stupid "10 year deal" with cloud services that no one has ever heard of or uses.

Microsoft announces 10 year deal to bring Gamepass to LG refrigerators!!

gold_drake1158d ago

lets not pretend that streaming games is great. and ms cant change that with their deals.

Is Stadia Dead?

Is Stadia dead? No! Stadia’s heart beat is alive and well. Despite the perpetual declarations of Stadia’s death since even before the platform’s release, Stadia has continued to evolve, to release games (nearly 300!), to release new platform features and to expand to new territories.

I can tell you that p.r. firms no longer flood my inbox telling me which games are being released for it.

Yang_kai1380d ago (Edited 1380d ago )

No
But it’s time is running out Nintendo and VR is waiting for it in gaming hell

1380d ago
Yang_kai1380d ago

@sensor did you play with it?
I did and YES it’s in gaming hell
Regardless of what Nintendo fans think or wish for 🤷🏿

cluclap1380d ago

@sensorchip, I think he is referring to Nintendo labo vr not Nintendo and vr separately

S2Killinit1380d ago (Edited 1380d ago )

VR is only getting bigger. Nintendo is doing superbly. Not sure where you are pulling your opinion from.

@ cluclap
I’m talking about the 90’s VR aka virtual boy that was dead on arrival like stadia.
Anyways let me stop here before I get flagged and send to sit outside in the ice thunderstorm

darthv721381d ago

I still get emails once a month about new titles and deals.

Knightofelemia1381d ago

It should have died years ago but like a 1980's shitty horror movie with shitty sequels this thing will just not die.

Terry_B1380d ago

Stadia is only 3 Years old, it started in November 2019. lol.

frostypants1380d ago (Edited 1380d ago )

Should have been DOA. Arguably it was for practical purposes. I don't know a single person who has it. It's the Atari Jaguar of cloud gaming services.

adamwparker1380d ago

Google wasn't ready. They tried to deliver something good on paper, but messy behind the scenes.
Once the promises on the founders pack expired and still weren't realized, Stadia was done.
With more preparation, it could have been a whole different story.
Maybe the higher brass was pushing deadlines?
Maybe the competition was too much?
Maybe Covid stopped progress already mapped out for success?

We may never know everything about the Stadia startup, but it was a bold move, I'll give them that.

Aloymetal1380d ago

It was practically DOA. It's just taking longer to fail because the company behind it has money to burn.
