Um, no. Games don't work like phone apps. You dont update a game to run on the latest console, the console manufacturers find hardware or software solutions to run old games.

The Wood2279d ago

This will more than likely increase the man hours developing for cross gen games. On top of that developing for the xb1 to the series x isn't just a button press. Time will tell how easy or hard it will be but the one certainty is it'll take more time not less

Software_Lover2279d ago

Huh? Devs do not have to go back and re-develop a ps4 game for it to work on ps5. That will be up to Sony to get it working. Same with the Xbox one and Series X.

This is not about cross-gaming.

RosweeSon2279d ago

Don’t make cross gen games then this only generally effects greedy companies with the yearly churns your EAs Ubisofts and activisions who churn out the yearly guff for every platform under the sun either stick with current gen or go next gen problem is they worried about getting the game to as many people as possible hence they want it on all the systems where as I can live without them on any 🤷🏻‍♂️🥴 😂

RosweeSon2279d ago

Exactly they making it sound like they’ll have to support 5 gens of games with updates and dlc etc uh no bang the games out they finished/complete move on to the new stuff it’s not hard and it’s not like they need managing once released.

porkChop2279d ago

Well, it depends. If the dev opts for straight BC then yeah it isn't any extra work. The game will just work and play exactly like on PS4/XBO. But people will likely want devs to update the games to take advantage of the new hardware with 4K assets and new graphical effects. That's extra work.

Sounds like a lazy dev. Also m$ backward compatibility was done in house so wft?

Maybe he means a enhancement patch? ... this would take me back to my 1st statement of lazy dev. U dont have too but fans would like it.

fathertime44642279d ago

MS did the back compat enhancements themselves too

Retroman2279d ago (Edited 2279d ago )

Manufacturer find "Solutations" to run old software not more work.

Muzikguy2279d ago

I guess we are going back to talking about lazy developers. That's exactly what this sounds like.

ziggurcat2279d ago

If it's HW-based BC, then no... not really. Arguably no work at all.

30fps sucks. Especially on an OLED.
