Shadowrun: Dean Takahashi is unimpressed

Dean Takahashi of the Mercury News has posted his impressions of Shadowrun, the upcoming Live Anywhere launch title from FASA Studio, and Takahashi seems less than impressed. He says that the graphics "aren't anything special," adding that they are more or less on par with Halo 2. He thinks the game's multiplayer focus is a risky maneuver by Microsoft, as it may only appeal to the hardcore gamer set.

i hope the dev's have programmed the the game latency to an acceptable standard, because from the few videos I've seen on shadowrun, the title looks quite promising.

Will 07 be the definitive year of the "shooter"?

neverfear7055d ago

I don't like this game at all. Once I heard it was multi player only and has no story I lost all interest in the game. I am sure people will love it, but I want more then just a multi player game I want some story involved with it to.

candystop7055d ago

I'm picking it up although I would of loved a single player story mode! This is the kind of game i'm going to just need to play and judge for myself regardless of what I hear before it's released! And from what i've seen this looks fun so we will see!

I can't wait for this game... after everything I've read and seen on it, it seems that it is going to be a completely innovative take on multiplayer shooters.

It seemed to me that the reviewer didn't like it because the graphics didn't blow him away (I think anyone who's seen footage of this game would agree that while the graphics aren't jaw-dropping, they're certainly a step up from Halo 2) and also because he wasn't very good at it... the devs were telling him to press 2 buttons to use magic powers together, and he said he kept pressing the wrong button.

To me, it sounds like this guy just sucks at games.

Dusk7055d ago

for the sole reason that how can you not be interested to check out Live Anywhere? I really want to see PC Gamers and 360 gamers duke it out in a MP shooter. The PC and 360 are the two best systems for shooters, now they can go head to head. Plus, the game in and of itself looks fun. The graphics aren't jaw-dropping, but the gameplay looks tight.

Yes! But don’t water it down or make it an MP competitive shooter. I’d love a Cyberpunk 2077 level Shadowrun game.

anast649d ago

This would be awesome, but let's see what they can do with Avowed first. I don't think the talent is there anymore to make a deep RPG.

OneLove649d ago

They just made the outer worlds👀

anast648d ago (Edited 648d ago )

Outer Worlds is extremely average.

TheNamelessOne649d ago

What do you mean? They still have the OGs like Josh Sawyer, Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarski as acting design leads on all of their projects. A lot of the veteran talent have remained at the studio.

anast648d ago

The faces can be there, it doesn't mean the talent is. I suppose we'll see.

TheNamelessOne647d ago (Edited 647d ago )

@anast

All the creative leads of classics like NeverwinterNights 2, Kotor 2, New Vegas, then to Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2; and modern games like Pentiment and Outerworlds; all very legitimate, deep RPGs; them being there, doing as they always have, means we need to question whether the "talent" is there to make deep RPGs. Definitely makes sense, as long as you don't think about it.

Shadowrun would be a nice game to get the series going again.

ShadowRun - An Xbox 360 Classic Left to Rot

ShadowRun arrived in 2007 and is still played by a core audience on modern consoles and PC today, despite a bungled launch.

coolbeans878d ago

Played it a few months back. Not a stellar mp game at its time, but still genuine & janky fun.

Sciurus_vulgaris878d ago

I have never played Shadowrun. However, the universe of Shadowrun seems like a good setting for various game genres. The franchise combines traditional fantasy tropes with cyberpunk science fiction.

Rebel_Scum877d ago

Yeah since the megadrive game I’ve always thought how cool the setting and premise is but the game never really delivers on gameplay.

ocelot07878d ago (Edited 878d ago )

Really enjoyed this back on 360. Was one of the first pc games I played as well. Nice to see it's still online I'm going to have to see about getting a copy on pc again.

Edit: is this backward compatible with series X?

Gcayton1877d ago

Fun game... just not Shadowrun.

porkChop877d ago

The Shadowrun RPGs from Harebrained Schemes were great, but that IP is just begging for a massive, Cyberpunk 2077-style game. Open world action RPG epic with a healthy dose of immersive sim goodness.

shinoff2183875d ago

That could turn out really good for real.

The 7 Best Xbox 360 Games - Console Exclusives Win the Day

The Xbox 360 was a fantastic console in its day with some truly classic titles, but what are the seven best games for the console?

DrDoomer905d ago

I'm pretty used to these lists being bad, but this one is particularly s#ite.

raWfodog904d ago

I think Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon should have been added to the list.

BrainSyphoned905d ago

I'll go with,
Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Culdcept Saga, Shadow Complex, Ace Combat 6 with the flight stick,A Kingdom for Keflings, A World of Keflings.
Bonus Kinect Games: Happy Action Theater and Sesame Street.
*Skyrim was so bad on PS3 that it almost deserves to be #1*

Husker42c905d ago

I really loved Shadow Complex.

P_Bomb904d ago

Ah yes, Shadow Complex! Good indies back in the day. Summer of Arcade. I enjoyed Trials Evolution as well.

ChasterMies905d ago (Edited 905d ago )

Was this made by a.i.? No human being would put Shadowrun, Fable III, and Splinter Cell: Conviction into a list of the 7 best Xbox 360 games.

Abnor_Mal905d ago (Edited 905d ago )

Would love to play Ace Combat6 on PlayStation, but Xbox decided to buy exclusivity and keep it off a competing platform.

The only mainline game I never played except for one level at a friends place. Game sold less than any other in the series if I remember correctly.

darthv72904d ago

360 had Namco hitters AC6 and RR6... both quality titles. You should at least bust out the 360 for AC6 if you can score the flight stick. Its great.

Hofstaderman904d ago

When the current gen XBOX offering is so lacking people need to refer to games released two generations back....

Profchaos904d ago (Edited 904d ago )

It's a nostalgia peice same reason we get thousands of YouTube videos on sega genisis. Something people have fond memories for but the era is long gone.

It's xboxs golden year imo it was their genisis years the time where they stuck it to the market leaders Sony.

BehindTheRows904d ago

They stuck nothing. Sony screwed themselves giving Xbox an opening. They would have gotten the usual smack down if the PS3 had launched at $399 and was easier to develop for.
