Stop Praising Doom Eternal for Being Microtransaction-Free

It's tempting to praise Doom Eternal for being microtransaction-free, but there's a problem when the absence of monetization is news.

No, i get that you shouldn'thave to commend someone for NOT being shitty, but thats the reality we live in. How else do you express that this is how you want things done. Punish bad behavior, reward good behavior, it's feedback 101.

Tetsdah2180d ago

Absolutely I agree. The current state of affairs demands it because if we don't reward good practices, companies are only going to interpreted as we don't care and just keep doing the bad practices that they have been. It is a sad situation but unfortunately is something we have to deal with.

CorndogBurglar2180d ago

The article isn't totally wrong. It is a sad state of affairs when MT's are so common place that everyone just instantly expects all games to have them. But that's also why the article is wrong. That IS the sad state of the industry. So because everyone expects MT's, it absolutely IS news when a game announces they won't have any.

People want to know that ahead of time, and how else will they know without someone reporting it to them? Again, I get it. It SHOULDN'T be news. But until the industry changes, it has to be.

spicelicka2180d ago

Also the gaming industry isn't the exact same as it used to be. Microtransactions are huge component of the business whereas in the past they weren't. Not including them in the game IS a noteworthy decision because the devs are actively letting go of a potential source of revenue for the players. They may make up for it in a different way, hopefully that's from more sales.

Aw, come on! Let's praise id Software for being cool, in a market teeming with uncoolness. I agree with your take on the industry, but when a developer prefers to maintain their own integrity, it's a good thing, not just a not-bad thing.

Edito2180d ago

The game will eventually have MT we all know that so this is not news... they just want to sell it first...

xX-oldboy-Xx2180d ago

Bang on - I wouldn't trust anything with BETHESDA slinking in the background.

isarai2180d ago

Yeah, as much as I'd love to be there day 1 to support this approach, im still going to wait and see for probably a couple months. Sad but that's what happens when you pull all this garbage. Actually might wait till Ps5 launch

UltraNova2180d ago

Exactly. Just like COD not having MTs "at launch"....

VTKC2180d ago

the problem with these big companies, they think their consumers are stupid. Some are. Maybe they outnumber the not stupid ones is why these companies still manage to survive. EA. Bethesda, Ubisoft, whoever its turn to do Call of Duty.

UltraNova2180d ago

Stupidity cant be helped. The most dangerous of them all are those who simply dont care. These companies are relentless in their pursuit of more and more revenue, the more we give they more they'll ask.

MWH2180d ago (Edited 2180d ago )

Sadly they're not getting the reason to think otherwise.

authors & articles writer never gets satisfied. if a game with microtransaction they will cry like a pregnant woman and if it has no microtransaction they will cry like a babe that needs a lollipop
