With an impressive catalogue and a low-cost incentive to try new titles, Game Pass could be a glimpse into the future of gaming.

I´ll always support Gamepass as long local gaming (download to hardware) is their main focus.

mikeslemonade2340d ago (Edited 2340d ago )

Yep best service and Xcloud is gonna be the best too. Also there’s many ways you can get these services for even cheaper price. You not gaming the right way or your rich if you don’t use game pass.

CaptainObvious8782340d ago

As a sony only gamer that likes renting games, finishing them to completion and happily sending them back know I'll never play them again once completed, gamepass does really appeal to me.

However, I have a very hard time believeling due to the pricing model, that many high quality, big budget AAA games are going to be coming to the service next gen. MS can afford to take a hit for a little while to get people on board, but how long will that last?

MS has a long history of decent support at the start, only to almost completely fade away by the middle.

Sayai jin2340d ago

The games in game pass are pretty robust. From classic series to brand new AAA it's in the service. Games like Devil May Cry 5, The Outer Worlds, Gears 5, Tomb Raider, Monster Hunter World, Metro Exodus, etc..are all pretty big and good games. There is more

Metal Gear Series, Masterchief Collection, Resident Evil 4, ESO, the latest two Wolfensteins, The Witcher 3, Forza Horizon 4, Fallout 4 and New Vegas, Elder Scrolls 4, etc are just some older, but great games.

So download, play once, play through, play again, etc and delete. 100 games to choose from. No taking or making games back, no late fees, etc. Pretty good deal, especially since I only paid $24 dollars for game pass ultimate for 24 months.

KillBill2339d ago

Imagine if your PlayStation had a service where every 1st party game you wanted to play was available on it at launch? Imagine then that same service also had many 3rd party games that too are available at launch day one. No waiting for disk order or returning and then ordering another. The option to sample titles that you had been interested in but never quite pulled the trigger on. just waiting to be played at a moments whim.

GamePass has allowed so many games that I wanted to play but didn't fork over the money to purchase at the time, to be played by me.

I started out with a simple 3 month subscription that I was gifted by a streamer and discovered it was just too much available for me to give up. Well worth the monthly payments. for sure better than the monthly cost of my Sat TV.

dcbronco2339d ago

You sound like you've seen the business model for GamePass. If not you're assuming a lot about losses. Plus if you know business you know that since windows is highly successful they could use GP losses to offset tax on profits in other areas. In Microsoft's case, they could do that for the foreseeable future.

mikeslemonade2339d ago

Nobody is forcing to keep the service. There’s like a $9 pass for 3 months of game pass. You got suspect logic if you are nitpicking that.

Its an amazing service. And a service that the industry has never seen at the start of a console generation before either. Think about that for a minute...your shiny new next-gen console hits the shelves and as gamers, we are elated with excitement and joy. We cant wait to get our new console/s of choice...but one thing that can wait is our pockets! We buy the console, an extra controller, possibly a new monitor or TV...possibly new accessories and sound equipment, and the most important thing of all...GAMES to play on it! All totaling...more than we care to spend haha. Thats where Gamepass comes in. Not only will it literally give you hundreds of NATIVE games to play on your new box #DayOne, but every first party launch game as well! Thats pretty powerful and at the very least will help your pockets. With the money saved on not having to pay full price for XGS titles like Halo Infinite, that can be put on more games from 3rd party, thus getting even more games for your new console. Its win for Microsoft and 3rd party pubs/devs alike. The benefits to having XGP is very consumer friendly.

gamer78042340d ago (Edited 2340d ago )

best part is with the upgrade to gamespass ultimate promotions plus xbox rewards I ended up getting 3 years of gamespass ultimate which includes gold for a little over 100$. No better deal in gaming hands down.

FGHFGHFGH2340d ago (Edited 2340d ago )

But will it work for the new xbox? Xbox one has 1 year left. It will probably be a separate fee and a different library for the new console like it is for pc, and at the regular prices it's not that great.

TK-662340d ago

@FGHFGHFGH

That's highly unlikely. Gold wasn't separated by generations so why would XGP?

Sayai jin2340d ago

Wrong. Game pass service is not generation dependent.

FGHFGHFGH2339d ago

@TK-66
Gamepass doesn't exist for 360. It's a separate fee for pc

How? I keep seeing you leave this comment without any explanation.

CaptainHenry9162340d ago (Edited 2340d ago )

@Silly

Since Multiplayer is free on PC, I don't feel that way. Windows gamepass is cheaper too the introductory price is $4.99 a month. I do believe Microsoft will change the price and it will be more expensive next gen though. They need to make more profit. If they change the price to 15 or 20 dollars, I'll cancel if that happens. Game Pass Ultimate for $14.99 per month I expect that to go up next gen as well.

The Wood2340d ago

I think the price will increase but I think MS wanna get as many on board with low entry and upgrade price.

Sayai jin2340d ago

I got 36 months of the service, for $36, not for 24 months as I stated above. So even if he price goes up, countless peole have that price locked in for several more years. They will keep thr price around the same as they are not hust reaching console players. They'll want to get mobile gamers and the like on the service over xcloud.

CaptainCook2339d ago

Why are you complaining since you're already or been subscribed to PS Plus and PS Now?

Silly gameAr:
"I used to be a big trophy hunter back in the day, but now the main reason I hunt is the fact that trophies help toward earning sony reward points. Just recently built up enough points to get a 10 dollar PSN card and a month trial of PS Now."

Many of my friends have gamepass subscribed and are playstation only Fans. However they play on PC cause they dont want to buy a second console. At the end its still a win win Situation and MS knows that this is also a way to bring people to xbox. For me it worked after 5 years of playstation gaming. Gamepass is right now the best service available.

darthv722340d ago

MS thanks you (and others) for your business.

sprinterboy2339d ago

"Playstation only friends"
Yet you state they subscribe to gamepass? Then you also mention they play pc.
Last time I checked that's called multiple console and pc gamer not "playstation only" lol pmsl.

xX-oldboy-Xx2339d ago

That sounds like a PS4 and PC gamer - no mention of another console.

Do a quick edit mate.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH2340d ago

I don’t have a single complaint with the service. The price is right there’s a wide range of games and you get day one AAA MS releases. I understand the service isn’t for everyone but I’ve yet to see a legitimate complaint about the service nor have I seen a better gaming service in terms of value.

The Wood2340d ago (Edited 2340d ago )

I can't see any issue for the customer.

I have legitimate questions about it's value for some developers. I think is way better for smaller devs than larger ones. I think if the deal and sustainability was a bed of roses, every developer would be on it. Ms wouldn't of had to pay to get devil may cry or whoever else they paid for their games. This funding must come from somewhere. The service becomes harder to sustain when it's sold for a year or two for such low price. It's obvious ms are relying on high numbers of continuous subs. Without those they'll have to increase the vanilla price or lessen the quality of some of the content. (Less triple A's) if they do have a great uptake then you can't really see much issue at all.

ElementX2340d ago (Edited 2340d ago )

Why do developers keep agreeing to sign up? They must be fairly compensated if they're still bringing games to Game Pass. MS doesn't allow every game on Game Pass, it's catered. I'm willing to bet a lot of people upgraded their remaining Live sub (under a year) without knowing or extending their sub first. Then there are the people who try out the $1 for a month promotion, as far as I know you get a single promotion because they are for new subscribers. Yeah some people will sign up for a month here and there when a new game comes to the service, but for $10/month a lot of people keep their subscription going.

Wasabi2340d ago

@The Wood

**"I can't see any issue for the customer"**

As a customer this statement makes me very happy, I agree - As a GP subscriber I have no issues.

**"I think is way better for smaller devs than larger ones"**

I agree, many smaller dev teams have spoken out as to how GP has not only created a much needed revenue stream for them on the Xbox platform, it's also increased product awareness through player engagement and resulted in higher sales on PC and PlayStation too.

**"I have legitimate questions about it's value for some developers"**

So we agree that GP is a good deal for smaller devs, so we can reasonably conclude that you are referring to larger teams such as Capcom and R*.

If someone tries to sell you something and it's too expensive, do you buy it?

If You are selling something and someone offers to buy at a price you are unhappy with, do you sell it?

Of course the answer is no, so why you think that financially astute teams such as Capcom and R* would place their products on the service if it wasn't financially viable for them is a Swiss Cheese argument, full of holes.

The Wood2340d ago

'Of course the answer is no, so why you think that financially astute teams such as Capcom and R* would place their products on the service if it wasn't financially viable for them is a Swiss Cheese argument, full of holes.'

I heard it was over 15 million...... It was viable for them as they were paid. MS wanted the jump and DMC is a big pull. How much would they have to pay for a bigger game... A COD IF activision would even agree. I do think it'll be harder to grab those games day one. Luckily many gamers can wait IF they believe MS will snag other to triple a games. I just think some devs will only put their games on sub services when their product is on the decline whenever that may be as they want maximum profit. Add service revenue in the decline stage and the devs definitely benefit. I aint s#ittin on GP or any other sub service just stating there's a reason why all devs aren't clamouring to put there games on them early doors.

TK-662340d ago (Edited 2340d ago )

@The Wood

"I have legitimate questions about it's value for some developers"

Okay, so it's not valuable for games with a budget comparable to COD. No ones really concerned about the financial stability of publishers pumping out yearly releases of one of the most successful franchises in the industry.

No one markets the service on those games. However, AAA games have been known to not achieve what was expected by the publisher, and XGP offers an easy way to salvage such situations.

However, if your concern is for truly for developers I can only see it being genuine for the ones at the absolute top. If XGP ends up cutting into their profit margins it'll likely be a sign that their game is the reason why and not XGP.

wiz71912339d ago

You do know that you can buy the games that on gamespass at a discounted price if you want to own them.

The Wood2339d ago

No one markets the service on those games. However, AAA games have been known to not achieve what was expected by the publisher, and XGP offers an easy way to salvage such situations. A guy above mentioned if the price goes up it wouldn't affect him. . My point is there are many subs with that perk so all devs whose games were downloaded or played have to share 2 dollars between them. Can't anyone see a potential issue with this?

I agree so I don't day one releases. I do expect them to go the service route when sales slow or decline.

Won't happen, software is where all the money is made. These companies take losses on these consoles and then make up for it with software sales.
