It's unnecessary for single player games like Uncharted, Tomb Raider and The Last of Us.

When I was younger, we competed playing Pong, Warlords, Combat, Outlaw, Decathlon, M Network football, etc when games first started out. Challenge each other in games. Some of my older brother's friends would be pissed that I could out play them or my friends. Competition is alright. Even like the old days of playing SF2 against opponents.

Then, it got boring with more quarters lining up on the machines. Sometimes you just wanted to relax and play and someone comes up to challenge you. And you'd beat them. And there would be more quarters. I'd tell them I was leaving and they could continue playing the game without me. It became a chore. Some were not sportsman like. You could congratulate a win and their technique. But some would act arrogant when you lost. A rarity. And that's from Atari days with friends onwards.

What I enjoyed more was the co-op games of Ikari Warriors, Contra, Double Dragon, Guerrilla War, TMNT, Streets of Rage, Final Fight, Gunstar Heroes and every other awesome 2 player co-op games. I didn't have to prove anything to anyone but play and stay alive and keep my comrades safe. You survived the battle with a buddy. That was fun.

I even turned over games(Some will know what this means) or went for a high score. But it was for me. Then I grew out of it. I don't care for trophies when I get them. I laugh at some of the names of them when they pop up. But I don't care to collect them. Don't care for achievements. Don't care to compete. It's not why I play. I play to have fun and challenge myself. And to enjoy great stories. Maybe I'm old. Lol! I'll admit I may not have the eyesight to play bullet hell screen filled shooters anymore without eyestrain and red eyes after. That must have been the sign. I could probably still do it. But my focus isn't there anymore like competitive multiplayer. Another reason I don't have Plus. Might have been different if Esports like competitions was 30+ years ago. Maybe it's biological and a youth thing.

Nope and its usually time and resources taken away from the actually game that keeps it from being its best.

I don’t care for it, but there’s many out there who do and I don’t wish it gone. I do roll my eyes when they inject it into narrative heavy games that previous entries never had it before *cough* Resident Evil *cough*, but hey it’s a thing and I totally get that it appeals to people.

I wish more stuff had co-op. I have a lot more fun Gaming memories playing things like gauntlet, joust and rampage (all 3 of which have a significant potential for trolling the other players), bubble bobble, etc, than strictly vs stuff.

Obviously mp isn’t necessary in all games but it’s nice when it is, as an option.

Before I even write anything about the topic at hand, fuck sites that have autoplay videos when you load the page. Double fuck sites that hide the video or audio player so you can't easily find and pause it, leaving you to "mute tab". It's garbage, and it leaves an absolutely awful first impression.

Yes, for the types of games where it is applicable. It’s difficult to imagine games without it.

Yeah its fun when you first get a console then it wanes fast.

Comp MP takes the fun out of MP. Every MP game with comp feels super sweaty and cheesy now. Every dev wants the next esports game for some reason smh

Competitive Multiplayer is great depending on the game btw...

Quake was my first experience and after a few rounds it was like 24 chickens running around with their heads cut off, die, rinse repeat.

That was decades ago, tried Verdun this week and although a slower vibe it was more of the same.

I’ve tried many games over the years but tired of it within minutes, I think I remember enjoying Uncharted online. Maybe I need to try some 3rd person mp.

I always thought Guitar Hero was boring the button clicking with the plastic guitar also got annoying. I played it twice with friends but I was also drunk and stoned. There are people who like Destiny but I never liked the game.
