This is some of the reasons why PS5 is forging its path to success again , technical information of the PS5 has been showing more and more lately of what it can do and its building the excitment for it , and this is way better than displaying a mini fridge design console that we don't have any clue of what is capable off and still MS want us to be excited ?, lol good luck with that :D

Kribwalker2372d ago

Well we already have Dolby Atmos on the xbox one, so while sony is talking about it for next gen, xbox fans can already hear it and try it out for themselves 🤷🏻‍♂️

Jin_Sakai2372d ago

“Well we already have Dolby Atmos on the xbox one, so while sony is talking about it for next gen, xbox fans can already hear it and try it out for themselves”

It’s not the same thing. This is talking about using ray tracing for 3D audio. Thanks for the concern trolling though.

Italiano12345672372d ago

Like the share button that Sony has had since 2013 that Microsoft is just implementing on controller for next gen. Get over it

GTgamer2372d ago

See kids this is why reading is fundamental🙄

CaptainHenry9162372d ago

This is for something different 😂 you made it obvious u were trolling

isarai2372d ago (Edited 2372d ago )

Sony has had 3D audio since the release of the PSVR, it's actually a requirement for PSVR games. This however is more about using Raytracing to improve audio in a 3d space

sprinterboy2372d ago (Edited 2372d ago )

I get where you're coming from but about 10 games currently use dolby atmos support in games on xbox and not much more on pc either.
Its not like every game that's comes out has dolby atmos support buddy.

“ Raytracing may also be used to improve audio, according to Marcus Klang, Lead Sound Designer at Zoink Game“

Yep that’s exactly what this article is about 🤦‍♂️

One single sentence that says it may be used, 3d spacial sound is already a thing on some consoles/pcs with the right speaker set up, however you wanna spin it, it could be further advanced with ray tracing, but one single line in the article that says it may be used is hardly telling us that ray tracing is what this article is about

It's very different.

Dolby Atmos is a 3rd party speaker setup. MS patched in support, and that's great, but Sony is actually dedicating raw horsepower to 3D/cutting edge audio down to the silicone.

I'm sure PS5 will have Atmos support, perhaps even PS4 at some point, but this is a whole different ball game. Dedicating significant horsepower to audio technology will have a huge potential impact.

Mark Cerny mentioned that this will dramatically improve your audio experience even without any external hardware. Almost quite literally transforming your default speakers or headphones into a vastly superior audio experience.

It will also allow devs to take advantage of audio in a way they weren't able to before, and surely Sony will create headphones/and or other audio hardware to further maximize the technology for those who are so inclined.

I've quite enjoyed my time with the platinum headset and the select games that are tuned for what they call 3D audio. Games like Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian, and even Days Gone sound excellent and give us a taste of the tech for a reasonable price. However 360 Reality audio and PS5 hardware enhanced 3D audio should be a whole new level of immersion and not just for gamers with extremely expensive external audio setups, but for anyone with a PlayStation 5.

Shuckylad2372d ago

Dolby Atmos? Great. 90% of gamers use their tv audio or stereo audio.

ApocalypseShadow2372d ago

Isarai, you're right about 3D audio in VR games and we hear that already. So PS5 getting it will benefit everybody. But I wish Skyrim VR had 3D audio. Because it's not mandatory. Should be though.

Masta Kaos2372d ago

How many Xbox gamers have Dolby Atmos setups at home?? And I hear no developer talking about it...

D__RAiL2372d ago

Dolby Atmos is a subscription 3D Audio service...F that. It does sound better if you have the right headphones..yes headphones not headset

captain_slow822372d ago

And I have the PS4 platinum headphones, an guess what, they have a dedicated 3d audio chip 😱 shock horror 🤪 and I've had them for years 😱😱😂

TKCMuzzer2372d ago

WTF are you going on about?

Knushwood Butt2372d ago

Regarding 3D audio for PSVR.

I have the official premium headset. Do you need to connect it to the PSVR head unit to get 3D audio, or can you use it wireless?

StormSnooper2371d ago

@Knushwood butt
So far as I know, it’s built in bud. You will notice it, if a sound comes from let’s say behind you, then you know.

fathertime44642371d ago

@jin_sakai
It's not ray tracing for audio. And for your own information Dolby atmos is 3d audio. Learn your tech

You couldn't help it, could you?

DerfDerf2372d ago

Xbox already did this with Xbox One.

XabiDaChosenOne2372d ago

At a software level, this is being embedded at the hardware level. Big difference.

Unspoken2372d ago

You mean Sony is late to the party in hardware again? Lol. 3D audio has been around a long time and Dolby Atmos is already accomplishing positional audio. Sony fanboys delusional one again.

sprinterboy2372d ago

I suggest you understand what's being done here before making yourself look silly.

Unspoken2372d ago (Edited 2372d ago )

Maybe get a clue on the actual tech they are talking about before going back under that Sony rock.

"“As a gamer,” he says, “it's been a little bit of a frustration that audio did not change too much between PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. With the next console the dream is to show how dramatically different the audio experience can be when we apply significant amounts of hardware horsepower to it.”

The result, Cerny says, will make you feel more immersed in the game as sounds come at you from above, from behind, and from the side. While the effect will require no external hardware—it will work through TV speakers and virtual surround sound—he allows that the “gold standard” will be headphone audio.""

If you haven't experienced positional audio because of Sony's inferior hardware, do yourself a favor and check out some Dolby content with appropriate hardware.

battlegrog2371d ago

Nice biast comment,You do realize that ms advanced its audio dramatically and promote it last gen.Now sony is doing it and its a big fuss. Video game industry is full of annoying people . Sony is feeding generic specs to over hype generic fan base. Try having a better attitude and everyone can enjoy more instead of reading pointless comments

sprinterboy2371d ago

"Try having a better attitude and everyone can enjoy more instead of reading pointless comments"

Pmsl, like reading your pointless comment.

“ It will be interesting to see if Microsoft is also going to place a similar emphasis on its Xbox Series X console. If not, Sony might have an advantage over its main competitor, though on the other hand the 'significant amount of power' applied to enhance sound could mean a slightly less spectacular visual department.”

Well knowing the xbox one uses dolby atmos already, which is 3d spacial sound, id say it’s a safe bet they won’t remove it for next gen

It is not the same as Dolby Atmos and Windows Sonic. Both of these implementations lower the quality of each individual sound. They do somewhat create the 3D effect but the sound suffers. Speech, vocals and instrument sound signatures lose their impact and get distorted. Sony's 360 reality audio is quite amazing in recreating the same sound signature in a 3D space. If they manage to implement something as similarly effective for gaming the results could be astonishing. And it is SPATIAL not spacial.

I have 3D audio on my sound bar. It’s nuts even without audio designed around it. I can only imagine what it sounds like with focused 3d.

Best Buy accidentally sent me a 1300 dollar sound bar when I bought a 300 dollar sound bar for my brother lmao. I said sorry bro, I’m keeping this shit. Gave him my old one which is good, better than the one I bought him.

CP_Company2372d ago

what is the name of the soundbar?

Smokehouse2372d ago (Edited 2372d ago )

HTSC5000 or something like that. It’s a Sony.

Edit: it’s the HTST5000. It’s a 1500 dollar sound bar on sale for 1300 lol. They really screwed that order up. I spend an ignorant amount of money at Best Buy though so it’s okay.

arkard2372d ago

For 1300 you could have at least started into a decent dedicated 5.1 system

Smokehouse2372d ago

I didn’t pay 1300, I paid 300 for a sound bar and they sent me 1500 dollar sound bar lol.

SyntheticForm2372d ago

It's great when society screws up in your favor, isn't it?

Smokehouse2372d ago (Edited 2372d ago )

Yeah sometimes lol. I also bought evil dead 1 and 2 4K Blu-ray’s for myself. It might of just been some cool horror head in the warehouse with a dickhead boss. “Wtf evil dead? You sir get the 50 pound sound bar”. I knew it wasn’t what I ordered when I tried to pick it up. You can’t mistake that shit.

IRetrouk2372d ago (Edited 2372d ago )

So are they putting actual 3d audio hardware into the system or using the system itself to run it?

IamTylerDurden12372d ago

A 3D audio chip is built into the system. Sony has dedicated raw horsepower to supporting audio technology.

IRetrouk2372d ago

Ahh ok, thanks for the answer, makes more sense to me now👍
