First of all in the case of Death stranding its a Kojima production game witch isn’t first party so Kojima has full control over its going to pc, secondly MLB is only going multiplat because the MLB want it on more platforms and Sony didn’t want to lose the license. As for PSnow getting PS4 exclusives there only on a limited trial that’s all, Sony and Jim Ryan know that exclusives sell playstations so there not going to put them on pc and lose console sales. Sony aren’t like MS, Sony depends on PlayStation more then ever, it’s there most profitable division so why would they want to lose console sales especially coming up to PS5.

Spurg2382d ago

They sell their console at a lost and make most of there money from software sales. So putting there games on PC is more profitable.

Pancit_Canton2382d ago (Edited 2382d ago )

Just to let you know, Sony owns the Death Stranding IP, not Kojima. It's fully funded and published by Sony. The same thing with Detroit Become Human.

Same author thought it was foolish of microsoft to do the same thing a couple years ago
https://gamingbolt.com/micr...

funny how that works

rigordomnic2382d ago

That was a different time. There was no xCloud, Amazon streaming or Stadia talk. No talk about expanding to two billion gamers worldwide. The industry landscape is changing now and companies are just trying to adapt to the changes.

pwnmaster30002382d ago

I was gonna day the same thing. The way it is now, it seems like the industry is pushing for more multi platform.. which imo im sort of mix feelings. It would be cool to play any game but at the same time, exclusives sells consoles.

rainslacker2381d ago (Edited 2381d ago )

It hasn't really changed though. Just MS is doing something different. They're really the only one's doing something different, and there is no real indicator that what they're doing different is more successful from a business perspective, or that it grows their brand in the way that other companies may want to grow the brand.

Sony has had PSNow since early in the gen. They were talking about it even before this gen started. If they thought it a good idea to put their big games on a sub service, they'd do so. They obviously realize that those big games on the service are going to help sell the service, but it also appears their desire to grow the hardware brand is stronger, so those big games aren't going to PSNow day one. I doubt they ever will on the sub model.

MS doing it is for whatever MS is trying to achieve, and it's patently clear that Sony and MS have different goals in the gaming space.

@Krib

Good Spot Krib,

Seems journalistic integrity took a back seat to the authors bias in this article.

Christopher2381d ago

True, but perhaps the success of Microsoft has made them change their mind?

Sony is not multiplatform. But there are individuals that would love for Sony to be multiplatform. It's where most of the high quality games are coming from and supported with third parties.

Some PC gamers want high resolution versions and frame rates of Sony's games while modding nudity in them. They beg for VR versions of PSVR games or modes like in RE7 or Ace Combat 7.

Some Xbox fans just want Sony's high quality games they can't get on their console or aren't getting from Microsoft with that trillion worth of value not being invested in the console. If Spider-Man were announced for Xbox one their heads would pop besides the snickering.

Nintendo fans don't care as much as they're getting high quality games. Except for any Japanese game they're not getting because of Switch's tablet like performance.

But the beggars want Sony's games. Just can't admit it freely that they like the color blue.

It's weird. In years past, console communities and PC communities tended to be at odd with one another. Now, the two communities don't really seem that fussed with one another. From what I can tell, it seems more like the Xbox fan boys who really are pushing for this Sony going multi-plat, and who see no value in keeping games exclusive to a console platform.

I still see the business sense in keeping stuff exclusive, and my gut tells me that sub services aren't great for maintaining high quality AAA because I have a modicum of common sense. But, realistically, in the past decade or so, have we really seen PC gamers going on a length port begging for exclusive games? Yet, in the past few years, it's become the most desired thing, and the smartest business move ever, which is superbly consumer friendly, and somehow, ultimately the way of the future.

To me, it just seems that this route marginalizes the need for a console maker to even make a console, because in the long run, why spend all that money on R&D for hardware, when they can just focus on software and make a return on investment?

But, the way things work, there is money in providing the console, but it requires actually selling the console. To that end, they're going to leverage their strengths, which will be software.

I think before all these people start claiming that MS is making all the right moves with the Xbox brand, they should maybe see how it plays out in the end, because as of now, MS is bolstering it's presence for services and game publication. But, to date, not a single thing MS has done has shown that they know the first thing about selling a console, and remaining competitive within the hardware market.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio62d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing62d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9262d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit62d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing62d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9262d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
