When PCs are as reliable and consumer friendly as consoles, and designed for use while sitting on a couch several feet away from the 55 inch+ TV, then maybe I'll get one for gaming.

It's an AMD box with the Xbox logo attached to it and so was the X1.

Well yeah. All consoles are computers specialized to run video games and designed to make gaming more accessible than a traditionnal PC. You hook your controller and play. No special config required because their hardware can't vary. That's all they are.

Since i still don't know the specifics for XboxSeries X i can't comment on that.

But i do have to say something to the folk stating ALL the consoles are just low-mid PC-s. This is not correct...

It's a common misconception that unfortunately has spread in the last 10 years or so.

I do recall NxGamer making a REALLY detailed video on this so i sugest people check his channel out for further details.

The PS4 and Xbox 360 are "basically a PC" - are you saying it's a PC because of it's boring and rushed 'box-like' appearance? Does that mean the original Xbox one was "Basically a VCR", or the PS4 Pro is "Basically a hamburger"?

that thing looks so damn rushed like there is no tomorrow, seriously MS just went out and throw this to the media alongside the already existent controller?, not one damn bit excited for this, the premise of just saying Series it already looks like it will be a nightmare, MS has a big issue of not having big name exclusives and now they are throwing variations of a "console" ?, damn!, the current xbox there is no reason imo to own one cause mostly it doesn't have anything unique to play there, so now lets put different variations of that thing? WOW!, definitely not a good idea MS.

The Series X name kinda sucks.

A name like Xbox Alpha or Xbox Omega would have been cooler. MS can even slap an X at the end if they're so obsessed with the letter.

What if this is not the primary next-gen Xbox? Maybe its the cheaper and less powerful of the two upcoming consoles, codenamed “Lockhart.”

The new consoles will perform like higher end gaming's pc. Tbh if they have 2070 power in a console then it's going to be extremely powerful.

That has nothing to do what the architecture is. It has everything to do that MS tries to push a PC model into the console market with shorter and quicker hardware iterations. Not sure how I feel about that. While PC gaming over various generations certainly got better, it still not the same as targeting a fix set of specs. Maybe performance levels are good enough lately that this won't matter. But maxing out close to metal will always deliver better results as generic code which needs to scale. Sure, you can just through more resources to a PC and run higher refresh rate and all. But show me one PC game where a PC developer takes the time to deliver something like GoW, Ghost of Tsushima, Last of Us, HzD Death Stranding and so many others. Even if some might be ported back to PC, the consoles still drive the market. I sure like some new tech and better games once in a while, but I love the ease of use of a console, no compatibility problems and the fact that a new generation can have exclusive games which don't necessarily need to be back-ported or being developed with a low end performance target. All that goes out of the window once a platform gets too fragmented. But I guess that's where we are heading. If the baseline is 4k 60fps then I can't care less, but everything else is still hampering progress.

The ps4, xbox one, OG xbox, ps5, and series x are all basically PC's. They all use custom pc hardware now. Articles like this are a pointless read and right

I don't see this as a problem. Basically all consoles are PCs.

I could see the articles now. One is going to be touted as a "PC disguised as a console" while the other is going to be considered a "true game console" for gamers. Even though they are both going to consist fundamentally the exact same hardware from the exact same manufacturers albeit a different logo on the box.

However one can make the argument it's the software that utilizes the hardware available to it that fundamentally makes the difference between the two machines, and I'm not just talking about games but the actual OS provided as well as quality of life systems in place.

I'm looking forward to the next generation as much as the next guy but at the moment all I really want is ghost tsushima 😅

Aside from form factor even this gen PS4 & XBOX are PCs they're just highly optimized for one purpose which is games at an affordable entry point.

PC in a box. Of course it is. Kinda what the X was but just a different shell. I don't particularly like the shape of this but I guess it would look ok next to my sub woofer. They look about the same.

If I were to see at least 5 AAA exclusive games on this device that looked jaw dropping & I just had to play I would definitely buy one but as of now that doesn't seem to be happening.

PC gamers just don't get it. It is the fact you simply put the game in and play it. Not worrying if your PC is configured to handle the latest title. Not worried if the game will have issues with your current drivers. Not worried about anything but playing the game. I had been a long time PC gamer and never looked back when I moved to console only. It is just so much less hassle than trying to game on PC.

Xbox series S will be a more traditional console, flat small & much the same as the one X. Series X is top tier full on power like a pc. I like it, it's bold it's neat & it's different. No children allowed.

Well, it's more user-friendly and living room/bedroom compatible than a gaming PC. Not to mention how optimization goes a LOOOOONG way nowadays. I hate to get my hopes up but I'm thinking that at 10-12 tflops it will dish out better looking games at 60 fps than you will see on PC with RTX cards. I mean RDR2 needs medium/high for 60 fps for a $1200 card. What does that tell you? Btw, I'm sure PS5 will be the same story.

Instead of console versus PC arguments, it should be Intel vs AMD. Intel was the one that made PC gaming so expensive because they charged $1000 for a 6 core, 12 thread processor, until AMD came along with their Zen 2, 3000 series 8 core (16 thread) processors that DESTROY Intel's 10 core processors in performance at 1/4 the price!! And what is even crazier is that AMD has released a 12 core (3900X) series and 16 core MONSTER (3950X) that both cost less than $1000 and totally CRUSH Intel's 18 core processor that costs $2000+! Intel is in deep @*$& right. Heck, AMD stock is now at $40 per share range. This same processor architecture will be used in the new consoles, so PC gamers with new AMD hardware will get better gaming performance than all Intel PC crap boxes!! Woot! I'm excited for AMD. About time Intel got put in their place.

well Its for those wanting to play Microsoft games exclusives on the couch with ease of access. I know you can connect your computer to Tv but normally consoles are much easier to set up than Pc

So? I don't care what you want to call it. I just want to know why I should get one over a PS5, and that seems to be your real thesis, so why not lead with that?

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
