I like that it's quiet. One large fan will move more air for cooling. Small fans have to spin faster to move the same amount of air and it would require several of them.

Sony is known for monolith designs of their consoles. And this looks to capture that feeling of something towering over something. "One above all" type of thing. Can't hate them for trying.

It's the same thing as what they copied this Gen from last Gen. Sony did the "it only does everything." And Microsoft this Gen did the "all in one" console. Which is the same with 360. Microsoft wanted to capture that PS2 market and replace it.

Should be an interesting battle. All I'm going to say is that games are going to look great either way. I hope physics leads the charge instead of just looks. I've had enough of just looks.

"Xbox Series X" sounds like they'll have different versions down the line. Xbox Series X2 X3 etc.

It's going to take some getting used to, this design. I do like the green light on top, and it would be great if it changed colour based on what colour you choose for your dashboard.

I'm getting xbox series x and playstation 5 so either way i get to play the best off the next gen. Alot off surmising here on N4g tbh. I think the console looks cool already got a spot set aside for it. We don't know what cooling solutions each console is adapting but the hardware is the same on both systems far as I've read. If i was a betting man my money would be on something quite similar from sony.

I find the wording and grammar used by Xbox on the Series X website incredibly interesting with respect to the ongoing next gen power narrative between PlayStation and Xbox.

There seems to be particlular emphasis placed on the use of the Period in making a declarative statement. Of course the descriptor could be referencing the Series X's hierarchal position within the Xbox ecosystem but I think if this was the case a simple sentence would have been used along the lines of "Our fastest most powerful Xbox console" as they have done with this generations X model.

In light of the recent leaks by Windows Central specifying a 12TF performance target for the high end Scarlett model, I'm willing to bet that the Series X will be the most powerful next gen console. This also ties in with Phil Spencers comments regarding not being out of position on power or price. I think we all assumed Spencer was talking about a single machine, I now believe he was actually talking about Series X and what we understand the less expensive, lower spec Lockhart model to be.

Series X implies that where will be more than a single console, possible a lower end and a cheaper one? If so, why not reveal them together?

Think Microsoft's naming convention leaves alot to be desired, it's far too similar to the One X which I presume will still be sold (and probably be the console of choice for most looking for an Xbox).

I really dont mind the look of it at all but what i do mind is where would it fit in my entertainment unit?.....to the side of it cause even on its side it wont get enough air flow :/
but the power in it is what really counts and apparently its very beast, i really dont think sony are going to be able make anything as powerful in a smaller footprint.

While the design may have it's problems (in terms of fitting into people's entertainment centers) I think they've chosen it so that they can get a big heatsink and axial fan in there. This would certainly outweigh the disadvantages imo, because it'll make the console run cooler and quieter. This is speculation of course. An improved cooling solution will also make higher clockspeeds possible.

The name is weird, but that's what I've come to expect from Microsoft consoles. I woke up today and already forgot the name of the system. I also think it might make some people think it's another version of the One X (similar to how the Wii U confused some people).

I think the console looks slick. Yes it looks like a pc tower, but a refined, non-intrusive and minimalistic one. I'd be happy to have one next to my TV. Specs are dope as well, I'm really excited to see Sony's answer to this. It's going to be a beautiful next-gen console war.

By the way; people here saying the PS5 dev kit looks better than this?!?!? Damn, looks like you've got a bad taste in design, even if that's subjective.

The design is more like a PC than console, but it's not bad. But i worry that this design will have a bad marketing impact. In short, the design is "too hardcore" that will scare mainstream to think that it's going to be as complicated as PC.

I look at this , and I see power. I see Microsoft saying we want a powerful console, so just get the parts needed to accomplish this, and we will build the design of the console around the parts. I have a great feeling about this. I feel much more confident by looking at this design that it will delver the power Microsoft is stating. Now i see playing games at 120 FPS.

It looks like 2 Gamecubes stacked. I am okay with that. My OG PS4 sounds like an airplane taking off sometimes, where as my X1X is almost completely silent as well as the Switch. Let's hope PS5 and Nextbox are quiet.

I quite like the look of it, and if I'm honest I think my ps4 just looks like an over sized door wedge, and a loud one at that.
Although the ps4 could also be used as aeroplane chocks as well and as an added bonus you might struggle to here the ps4 running over the noise of the plane PMSL.

One thing I like about the XBSX, is that you're going to be able to play all of your XBOX catalog on the new system. For people like me that has huge collection original Xbox and 360 games, that's a huge selling point (again) for people like me.

I hope Sony does the same thing with the PS5, because my collection for the PS2, PS3, and PS4 is beyond ridiculous.

I actually like the Design and I think it stands out compared to previous consoles. What’s more important is what’s under the hood which I think we can all agree on. PS4 and especially the Pro were ugly consoles to me but that didn’t stop Sony from selling a ton of them. It will sit well next to my 65 inch curved Samsung.

Wow they just threw away the design team and said fudge it, just use the box. But honestly, who cares its just the looks. I am personally more disappointed that the controller is not very different from the current one. A new controller is a big part of a new generation in my opinion.

Can you still get a Xbox Live Gold redeem code if you have Ultimate Game Pass? It says my Gold converted with game pass. What happens when I redeem, say a 3 month Xbox Old code? Does it extend my Ultimate Game Pass or when my Ultimate Game Pass expires my Gold keeps going?

It looks like my center channel if I were to stand it on its side. It's about the same size based on the size of the controller.

I would have preferred something similar to the S or X as MS outdid themselves on those designs, but I like it. Looks are not really what I buy consoles for, so if it performs, that is ultimately what I am concerned with. Great job Phil, and being able to play 3 generations plus the next gen Xbox games on one platform, makes the X Series a no brainer for me. Can't wait..

It's design is literally the One X in tower form. There's definitely gonna be another type. Series S? With a traditional look and price although weaker. I'm starting to understand it. I think it will have another name. This is just the X version of it. Like the one X is the X series of Xbox One.

Its minimalistic design and the fact it looks like a connected gizmo put out by Amazon may earn it some praise by some, but if there are really 2 next-gen Xbox systems (Xbox series X and Xbox series S?), it's going to be the Xbox One X all over again, with the high-end version not able to show what it can do, as the games will also have to function on the lower-end version. I heard some rumors of 12 TFLOPS for the former and 4 TFLOPS for the latter, if true it doesn't make any sense to me, how could there be so much disparity between them, with the next-gen low-end version being even less powerful than the current-gen high-end version ...?
