I'm the author. I own both the Xbox 360, and the PS3. Regardless of platform, my opinion would have been the same. I compared the Left 4 Dead demo to my previous experiences with first person shooters on both consoles. In my opinion, it wasn't very impressive.

How did I play this game? Like I would any game, with a controller. I played on normal, hard, and expert settings. I played offline as well as online. I agree that the game will be fun with 3 friends, but the demo wasn't very impressive technically. It's not like I played the demo once and said, "oh, bad graphics, I'll make a long winded article." I played it for a few hours and formed an opinion. As for who I played with, they were just random Xbox Live users. As I have said before, I know this game will be more enjoyable with friends just like any other game, really.

I heard this game is the poor man's Counter Strike for 360 owners with PS2 graphics.

But it is still a very fun game to play.

It's a lot more fun then counterstrike.

Not to say that your statement has some truth to it. I concede that many PS3 users are butt sore from all the problems with Team Fortress 2. I wouldn't put it past people to spread lies and misinformation- look no further than metacritc- however most people either like L4D or they don't. I don't think there is a conspiracy theory and people want the game to fail. People have preferences and thats all there is to say for the most part. Personally, I very much enjoyed the demo and will purchase the full release. Too much fun to pass up. I didn't think the graphics were poor either AND I don't think Turok is a good looking game by any standard. Remember when people played games because they were fun? This is one of those games in my opinion.

However, as an owner of both consoles, and a gamer who was really looking forward to L4D, I thought the demo was quite disappointing. Now, I'm not sure if its an early build or whatever, so maybe the issues I have with it are already a thing of the past. But, like it or not, the blogger's points are valid. I've played the demo three times, single player, online co-op, and offline co-op. The AI director had very little impact on gameplay, the character models have no volume, and it just wasn't very fun. This game has gone from a potential "buy" to a potential "rent" for me.

And please stop trashing a blogger just because you disagree with his/her opinion.

After playing the game on expert numerous times I can see that the AI director is truly amazing and really changes the way you play again and again. If your playing on live hit me up with a gamer tag because to say "ai director had little impact" obviously means you either haven't played many games on expert or your some type of super gamer. L4D can not be played alone and without help you simply cannot pass it by yourself or at least more then once.

With ground breaking concept, story telling, graphics, gameplay and tech.

Left for dead is no different. For example, left for dead's biggest selling point is it's director. Who act's like a puppet master, controlling every aspect of the game, from encounters to presentation, something which has never been done in a game before to this extent.

Some people tend to get bored playing generic fps 2, and enjoy something different.

But to say that valve doesn't deserve they praise they receive already discredits anything you've said. My guess, you're panties are knotted from the silent treatment that valve gives to the PS3.

Usually, yes, Valve pushes the envelope.

However, Left 4 Dead doesn't really push anything. Is it dang fun? Yes. However, the power of the "Director" mechanic is greatly overexaggerated. I have played through the demo dozens of times and it is easy to see patterns and spawn points after only a few plays. There are parts where a Hunter will almost ALWAYS spawn or a spot on a specific wall where enemies will break through.

If Left 4 Dead's way of spawning is revolutionary to you, I implore you to go play an World of Warcraft, System Shock 2, the co-op in Resistance 2, etc. because those games pull off the same level of randomness.

actually in all those games the randomness is nowhere close to Left 4 Dead.

World of Warcraft has randomness?? Go to X kill 15 of these and return to Y....I could honestly tell you where to find every enemy in that game lol I know right.

Resistance2's Co Op?? Uuuum no? Enemies may be in a different set up but there going to be in the same area all the time. No randomness in that...really I mean where did that come from?

No other game had such a complete package as Gears 2 this year. You would obviously say such a thing because you haven't played it. I on the other hand have both systems and Gears 2 takes goty easily for me because it's such complete package. LBP was the most innovational this year, and Metal Gear easily had the best story line/graphics, Dead Space was the surprise hit, and Fallou3 was the disappointment. It was the best year for real gamers who aren't living off their parents, and can afford more than one system. It was a sad year for children who can barely afford one system, and have to go around making ignorant comments about games they've never even played. Oh, and btw I'm taking a bubble from you celt because it's people like you who ruin this site.

As for Left 4 Dead It felt like a rental at best for me. Its fun online co-op, but it doesn't have staying power.

Ali the brit there has yet to play Gears2 and has a hate on for it because he got torn the f up in Gears1. He bashes every gears article and has now made a new account to try and look more unbiased. pretty sad person that kid is. I agree with pretty much all of the things you said but IMO Fallout was outstanding and had me pretty overwhelmed with everything you can do.

Play with friends. The experience becomes infinitely more enjoyable. I'd say it's as awesome a game as Team Fortress 2, though it'd be nice if the player limit were raised to something like 8. (But I'm sure some modders will do that shortly after the game releases).

ah Resistance 2 delivered a great single player campaign...excellent co op...and a very very mediocre competitive mode imo...the strengths make up for the weaknesses...and overall i would say its the best fps of the year (judging only by the demo of l4d)...but i will admit it wasn't quite as good as I had hoped...maybe i'm screwed up though...all i have been playing lately is killzone 2's beta...and crap that game wrecks everything...

cool thing about L4D is how my ridiculously weak laptop with a terdy inegrated GMA 950 ran it like a champ...gotta love the fact that its a 4 year old shooter visually...only at night...

whatever though...if there is a single dev on this planet that will get more ass kissing than any other...its definitely Valve...critically this game will do just fine...

Um.. I haven't experiences any pop-in's, framerate issues, etc.

Try clearing your 360's (not your HDD's) cache file.. it stores useless stuff that can slow your 360 down. Just hold the button on the console when turning it on and it will clear the cache file.

I've been following this game for a while. Sure, I haven't been following it religiously like you have, but I didn't just hear about it the day my article was published. I was hoping that the single player aspect would have been an enjoyable experience similar to a F.E.A.R, Resistance, or Condemned. The multiplayer is going to be fun. I'm not denying this, but if the demo is a good representation of the final game, Left 4 Dead is seriously lacking in the visual department. Don't just say the visuals are bad because it's a multiplayer game, because earlier games like Resistance 1, and Gears of War 1 looked great during online play. You may not think that arms and other body parts making their way through the environment is upsetting, but in 2008, I think it really shows how archaic the engine used for this game is. Visuals help me, as well as many others immerse themselves in a game.

I'm sorry that the Left 4 Dead demo was entirely average, and that I voiced my opinion. I don't think that saying that the zombies in the game look like people with ketchup stains on their face is nitpicking. It's quite ugly for this generation of consoles.

Four years later and Valve STILL hasn't been bothered to get off their lazy asses, whilst Crytek have already released a brand new engine, the CryEngine2. Far Cry demonstrates that this is console compatible.

Oh god I know! Using the same type of A.I. for EVERY ENEMY is just too damn difficult for developers. Not to mention the amazing shades of gray.

Seriously? Killzone? Far Cry 2 looks nicer than that.. and it didn't need a delay.

A four year old engine is not going to do the visuals any justice either especially after it being made specifically for PCs.

Half-Life 2 looked A LOT LOT better back in 2004 than it does now on console's version Orange Box.

Manhunt 2 is one of the few games in videogame history that were more or less killed by outrage. When it finally released it was so lowkey that no one barely noticed and all chance of a third game was gone for good.
