Resident Evil 3's Nemesis Is Still Terrifying

Resident Evil is the zombie horror game, but its shambling corpses are slow and easy to avoid. To reinvigorate the series, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis created an unpredictable nightmare man who attacked unpredictably with terrifying speed. It robbed players of their sense of control, and in doing so created one of gaming’s scariest monsters.

Mr X was creepy AF, I'm excited to see what they do with Nemesis.

Tross2363d ago

Indeed, and in a remake he will be even more so.

Refresh my memory: was Nemesis a chaser like Mr. X? If I recall, he was more of a jump scare programmed into certain portions of the game.

While the encounters were scripted, once he shows up, you either have to run from him or defeat him but unlike Mr.X, Nemises encounters were much more brutal and you dont get rid of him after entering another room because he can open doors to alot of the rooms and areas in the game and he can run extremely fast, shoot a bazooka and he hits really hard. So to counter that, Capcom added a dodge mechanic that if utilized well can make jill dodge all of his attacks and her arsenal of weapons made her much more lethal than Leon or Claire so it was a fair fight. Am honestly excited to see how they are gonna incorporate Sprinting mechanics in RE3Remake but i am guessing RE3 Remake levels will be much more open and less linear in terms of design than RE2 Remake to allow that kind of mechanic to be utilized well.

Nemesis was made even more scary with the way it appeared (like from a belfry in flames or in cramped spaces where you definitely didn't expect to run into him), and above all with the minimalistic yet chillingly unease-inducing music that accompanied his lurking around. Whenever you were in a "safe room" but didn't hear the soothing tune but those low-frequency strings, you knew you were in for some spasmatic chase in the derelict streets of Raccoon City when you got out, lol

Here's hoping they'll work on that, as there was still room for improvement. How cool would it be if the music in safe rooms changed dynamically and all of a sudden Nemesis broke into it? Imagine you're walking along the wall and suddenly two arms catch you through it and tear you off and you're suddenly on the other side, lol. That would be insane.

I feel like they should have included the original games with the remakes they've been doing.
