Modern Warfare's Strict Skill Based Matchmaking Angers Community

CoD: Modern Warfare's strict skill based matchmaking, according to fans, isn't properly implemented due to it's strange and seemingly contradictory nature.

I don't know what the problem really is. I enjoy the game as it is. You are good at a game, you play with other players that had a good game. It's not bad, rather good imo. Seems people are only complaining because they don't kill less skilled players as much as they wanted.

Profchaos2371d ago

I've found the matchmaking fair but early on I was matched with players that weren't as skilled I had 25 kills and died 3 times for example. I had no satisfaction in that match at all so it goes both ways I'd prefer to play against people with a similar skill

BlackDoomAx2371d ago

Totally agree. But you're part of the minority. When you see that companies make millions by selling stuff to people that want an advantage over the others, or the number of bots/cheaters there are, you can tell that people don't want to be rewarded for their skill. They want to win/be the 'best', no matter the cost.

CorndogBurglar2371d ago

Yeah, but early on the game doesn't have anything to base your skill on. You have to play some matches before it knows your skill level and can match you up accordingly.

Darkwaver5172371d ago

There's nothing wrong with matchmaking per se, but the fact that CoD is designed to be an adrenaline fueled game means that there has to be a certain amount of imbalance in the game. If you are always pitted against equally skilled players, getting a high kill streak is always just out of reach. Not to mention the whole gameplay loop MW introduced where you are encouraged to play with all the guns in the game. Good luck getting a pistol camo or attachment when you are in a high skilled meta lobby where everyone has an M4.

Having a random set of players doesn't sound that great, but based on the whole design philosophy of MW it would fit in way better than this.

Play with pistol vs m4 -->get rekt->get paired with other rekt players-> stomp them- > profit

Darkwaver5172371d ago

Based on the research featured in the YouTube vid, the flowchart is exactly what's wrong with the system. pistol vs m4 -->get rekt for multiple games in a row, ruining your experience->get paired with other rekt and inexperienced players-> stomp them while ruining their experience multiple games in a row. Of course you can profit in the short term but I don't see how embedding gameplay elements into your game only to have players pull their hair out over it half the time is efficiënt.

I've good and bad days on this game and have assumed it's down to the sbmm. Some days I'm a god, others I scrape bu and some I tank but that's what it's designed to do.
Does this mean that as time goes by that nearly all players will have a near to 1 kdr due to this system?
Pity it doesn't take into account overall performance as I could see games being very competitive as players are matched with similar skilled players not just ones that had a couple bad rounds

It's forcing ranked play into a casual playlist which for the most part does not work.

For instance my Internet has a ping of about 15-20 for the most part and any multiplayer game should put you in a game with the best connection like every other multiplayer game ever made, but not MW. It will put you in a lobby with a ping of 300 playing with Americans, Europeans and Australians because it wants to match you on someones skill rather than connection. You get shot from around corners, get 6 hitmarkers just to get shot once etc.

Its got to the point where people are purposely killing themselves to put them in lobbies with lower skill so they can have fun. It's broken as hell.

COD is a casual game that most people want to just kick back after school or work and play a few games. They don't want to turn it on and have to play sweaty like theres £10,000 on the line in a tournament. COD needs to take it out and put SBMM as a separate playlist like 99% of games.

Biggest issue with SBMM in this game, is that you get paired up with people with terrible connections. If there was some way to implement SBMM and pair people up with similar ping. That would be ideal.

TKCMuzzer2370d ago (Edited 2370d ago )

There are far more important issues:
Map rotation is poor (always Piccadilly)
Spawning is still laughable at times (stop spawning under someones kill streak, its amateur design)
Penetrable objects (couldn't shoot someone hiding behind some hay, yet got shot through a tree trunk, concrete blocks)
When you think your peaking out, yet seem to standing two feet in view waving your hands around like you just don't care.
Stupid character call outs that the enemy can hear. "hey bad guy, i'm here reloading my weapon, come and shoot me" , dumb design.
Footsteps can be heard a mile away, yet could not hear someone climbing through a window from six feet (they were not crouching)
M4A1 (everyone uses it and its stupidly accurate at long distances). Makes doing the gun challenges painful, DMR's are hardly used and I had to go through the frustration for a challenge.
Most importantly....the sodding net code needs sorting. To may one shot deaths from AF and SMG's. If players are lagging, then show it, do not hide it behind so called 'smoothing' . That is not sorting the issue, that is hiding it.

Does it really. Love people who speak on behalf of others,,,without actually speaking to them. Click bait.

Darkwaver5172370d ago

I cite multiple sources and provide links to many people's opinions that, I'm pretty sure, are also a part of the community. So please explain to me what about the headline or the article is untrue and I'll rectify accordingly

gamer92370d ago

"Angers Community" implies the whole community. Sorry, but the title could be better. Most of the gamers that I have talked to enjoy skill based matchmaking, it makes for closer matches.

Darkwaver5172370d ago

Well unless Infinity Ward decides to turn every weapon in the game into a pea shooter nothing could anger the entire community of course :P But I understand the criticism. We continually try to create headlines that both cover the contents of the article but draw people in. And sadly click bait works while nobody clicks on 100% honest headlines unless the news is colossal. I do agree taht this headline operates in a gray area and it could always be better!

Sciurus_vulgaris2370d ago

People who complain about skill-based match making because they dot want to play against people of similar skill to themselves.

TKCMuzzer2370d ago

Well to be fair, I seem to be getting put in games with players who are way better than me, you know the ones who obviously have more spare time than me to practice.

Activision kills ambitious H2M Modern Warfare 2 mod one day before its release

Stay classy, Activision.

TGG_overlord640d ago

That was a really low move Activision...

TheNamelessOne640d ago

The fact that they let this go until the last minute, making use of the extra sales they were getting from those excited for the multiplayer mod, is about as slimy as it gets.

Einhander1972640d ago

Whenever something with one of these developers Microsoft bought if they do something bad it's always the developers but if they do something good it's always Microsoft.

Microsoft owns Activision, Microsoft shut down this project.
