Very nice but them images are not final

It's a freaking utility patent used to show functionality not design. Why ia this so difficult for people to understand.

SkatterBrain2384d ago

if they give this controller 5G what would stop it from being able to game on the go with it? make the USB-C on it throw out a TV Signal and you can plug a little dongle at that end that has hdmi and play the stream on the TV anywhere you are in 1080P or on the lil screen on the controller on the go

SkatterBrain2384d ago

why the disagrees? it would be a great alternative if we dont get a PSP3 except for the tiny screen , If Your Gonna Disagree tell me At Least Why, why wouldnt it be a switch killer it it had 5G and Video Out?

SkatterBrain2384d ago

bet its nintendo fans disagreeing at a great idea

2384d ago
rainslacker2384d ago

@skatter

To output ti sdmi, it would need a signal processor to format the video. While those arent exceptionally expensive, they arent exactly cheap for a controller, plus, they tend to use a lot of power. OTOH, if it has a touch screen, then the signal.processor will already be included

yeahokwhatever2384d ago

SkatterBrain,
Giving the controllers the internals of a mobile phone would mean 150-300$ controllers. Ever try to walk around with a dualshock 4 in your pocket? No thanks.

I think the idea of a touchscreen built into the controller is a really great way to add functionality to the DS and a natural evolution of the light bar and touchpad on the DS4.

I thought the VMU on the Sega Dreamcast controller which used a primitive but similar idea was way ahead of its time, I'd love to see Sony implement something like this for PS5.

SkatterBrain2384d ago

i think its a battery hog , i never look at my controller while playing , maybe this was another reason the wii u was a failure

MajorLazer2384d ago

Hope you can turn off the lightbar, if there is one

xander707692384d ago

No thanks. I would like to see Sony get more practical and price focused on controllers. Here’s the main things controllers should be about imo

Dependable
Affordable
Battery efficient

And that’s about it. All I want from a controller is for it to work well, and work for a long time, and not be $60+ when it comes time to replace. A touchscreen on a controller means more expensive, more power used, and frankly just makes the controller more fragile. I think it’s unnecessary and all-around a bad idea.

UnHoly_One2384d ago (Edited 2384d ago )

Please no screen on the controller, the DS4 already lasts like a whopping 6 hours on a charge, let's not cut that down to 2 by putting a useless screen on it.

I doubt it's final but I'd be fine with that, don't need to fix what's not broken

UnholyLight2384d ago

true, but at the same time I'd also love to see some controller innovation and unexpected changes to both the DS5 and the next Xbox controller. It would be nice to see. As much as I love my DS4

yeahokwhatever2384d ago

bring back the ps3 E3 boomerang controller. Id buy it for $100 as a collector's item.

SyntheticForm2384d ago

The DS4 is fine, but if they're aiming to upgrade it in a meaningful, awesome way, then great. Slightly stronger battery's all I'm asking.

SolidGamerX2384d ago

Wish granted, the DS5 will have meaningful changes in the form of an improved speaker, adaptive triggers, haptic feedback and a "larger-capacity battery".

2384d ago
SolidGamerX2383d ago

@ImGumbyDammit

Oh look another person that's never happy when its Sony related news. None of that will use anymore power then the DS4 already uses and I use the touch pad all the time so its hardly useless but I get your agenda.

UnholyLight2383d ago

@ImGumbyDammit I actually really love the touchpad. Its's easy during a frantic FPS session online to click for the mini map or what have you than it is to find the button on the Xbox controller...Okay so that is SO SMALL but still I LOVE that massive touchpad there. Massively underutilized this gen by devs

sampsonon2384d ago

i never understood this battery thing. it's rechargeable and you can plug and play as it chargers using a $10 charging chord. i myself have a docking station and own two DS4 controllers, so i never ever had to worry. it beats buying batteries.

SegaGamer2384d ago

"it beats buying batteries"

No it doesn't, at least not from my point of view. I would rather have rechargeable batteries that last between 40-50 hours than need to charge up my controller every other day. If I am buying a wireless controller, I don't want to be worried about the battery dying during my gameplay, I may as well just buy a wired controller.

TK-662384d ago

In terms of charge, I'd much rather pay extra for a battery pack with 30 hours of life than to frequently find my controller without charge. I swear my PS4 controller these days only lasts 4 hours until it notifies me that I need to plug it in, and when I'm playing a new game it's not acceptable.

It needs a drastically better battery that can last much longer, or do what the Xbox does and provide an option for a better battery pack.

xenz2384d ago

@SegaGamer

Alright lets do some math. Lets say the average gamer plays 20 hours/week, and that the batteries last for 40 hours and that they cost each 8$ (idk what US charges for battery packs).

For one year it would look like this

20*52 = 1 040 hours per year
1 040÷40 = 26 battery packs
26*8 = 208$ per year for batteries.

Lets say you bought the console on release day, and that the generation lasts for 7 years.

208*7 = 1 456$ in total for one console generation.

So you are basically saying that you want to pay that amount because you dont have to recharge every other day.

TK-662384d ago

@xenz

Everything you just said is countered with one simple word in @SegaGamers comment:

"rechargeable"

Please, learn to read showing off you can do math.

Neonridr2384d ago (Edited 2384d ago )

nobody is saying it's not better than batteries. Also if you happen to sit more than a standard USB cable length away from your system, it sort of makes playing while charging next to impossible. I have 4 DS controllers myself so I always have some plugged into the charging stations so it's less of an issue for me, but I can see it being a problem for others.

S2Killinit2384d ago (Edited 2384d ago )

Thats what I do. I have long charge cable so no worries whatsoever. But a longer battery life is always a good thing.

SolidGamerX2384d ago

Same I just have mine plugged in all the time, I think like most things Playstation related its just something for people to bitch about. LOL, at the down vote for literally listing features. The upset with these xbox fanboys never ceases to amaze me.

Kados2384d ago

@xenz:

Have you never heard of rechargable AAs? <$20 for a 4 pack of them. 2 in the controller, 2 plugged into the charger on stand-by. 40-50 hours of playtime vs 8-10, and when they do run out of juice, it takes 5 seconds to swap them for the stand-by set. They will last 10+ years, and when they do eventually bite it, you can buy another set and be good for another 10+ years. No need to spend $60 on an entire new controller just because the battery crapped out. You also don't need to spend an hour or 2 playing wired every 8-10 hours, waiting for the battery to charge. You always have a fully charged set waiting to go.

SegaGamer2384d ago (Edited 2384d ago )

@Xenz

Like others have said, you are completely ignoring the part where I said rechargeable batteries. I have two sets of AA batteries, I am charging them up once a month, it cost me £20, and I never need to worry about having the controller wired up.

@S2Killinit

Don't you see the problem with that? Having the thing plugged in at all times defeats the purpose of a wireless controller.

@SolidGamerX

Get a grip, it's not about being a fanboy of anything, it's just personal preference. I prefer to use AA rechargeable batteries that last for 40-50 hours over having my wireless controller constantly wired up and charging, that is all there is to it, there isn't always an agenda. If anything, the disagrees on facts and agrees for nonsense posts like Xenz post shows that the only fanboys here are Playstation fanboys.

sampsonon2384d ago

@SegaGamer: first off, the controller tells you t needs recharging about 15 minutes before it dies.
second, you sound a little spoiled complaining about a controller that's charge lasts 4 hrs before needing to recharge. after 4 hrs of gaming you may want to take a little 10 minute break anyway.

UnbreakableAlex2384d ago

What’s the problem of buying 4 eneloop rechargeable Batteries and, you know, recharge them? Only stupid people buy non rechargeable batteries.

jib2384d ago

So basically "It's okay sony, no need for a redesign. We'll all just buy a longer $10 cable and an extra $50 wireless controller on top of the $400-500+$60 game at launch instead" ?

It's a universal thing. Phone lasting a week > 1 day. Laptops lasting days > 4 hours. This isn't some deep philosophical topic. Sony is capable and can make the correct design changes(older gen controllers lasted weeks) to make a longer lasting controller. With that said, why is it hard to understand others voicing for a more convenient(60$ cheaper) solution?

SyntheticForm2384d ago

You buy the rechargeable Charge and Play kit one time. No one in the world buys standard AAs to swap out every few days. That would be ridiculously expensive and moronic.

They're buying rechargeable. Whether it's the Xbox brand or not.

thexmanone2383d ago

@ xenez

Your math is way off. One rechargeable battery pack will last you a year or two so maybe $16 for two years,

Agree it could have larger battery but it's not needed. Just dont forget to charge you control once in a while and you will never run out of battery. If you forget .. then plug it for like 10 20 min and you are good to go foranother while those controllers charge super fast and with usb c they surely will char lighting faster. Abd if you play 4hr in row get a 10mi. Break eat sonthing sprech yourbody eyes its not healthy. While in those 10mi. It will charge easily like 1 or 2 more hrs with wireless playtime. And withtype c cables i am sire 10mi. Will give the ps5 controller like 3 or 4 hrs gameplay easyly so i dont think battery will be a problem unless it does truly has a touch screen that will eat the battery fast but i doubt it will have one. Maybe not until ps6 or at least ps5 pro.

Most if not most all of us are used to usi g our phones while plug anyway so is not much different. And those who said recharging AA batteries sure some people do that but you also have to plug them they also fail they dint last 10 year no a and if they do after few yesrs their power is really bad. Last tine i buy Energizer it cane with 4 and charger and two already fail literally our the box and warranty was a no go. Sure i can buy two batteries and cheat and returm the bad one but who got time for that

UnholyLight2383d ago

Honestly as an owner of both Xbox and Playstation I don't understand where people are bashing the DS4 so much from. It's not THAT inconvenient. I MUCH prefer rechargeable controllers even though previous to this gen I much preferred having battery packs. I have 3 DS4 controllers and my favourite one I just plug in once every like 8 play sessions with before I go to University or work and when I come back it's good for another week + of gaming.

Sm00thNinja2384d ago

Kinda looks like it's more rounded akin to the Xbox controller. A little disappointed there's no fancy screen but if it ain't broke? Save for the battery life the DS4 is pretty much perfect

ravens522384d ago

I think that is a screen. It kinda sticks out and looks super flat. The touch pad curves with the controller. I think it has a screen and i actually hope it does thatd be cool

Sm00thNinja2384d ago

Hmmm I wouldn't be upset with another touch pad but it really just went unused and became another button. I'm with you though a screen that even displayed like the fps... would be amazing. Pipedream but still

aaronaton2384d ago

how are they gunna implement any kind of screen and still sell them for around the same price?
People aren't gunna pay £80 for a separate controller.

Sm00thNinja2384d ago

Did it say the DS5 will be around the same price? I dunno Nintendo has been getting away with selling Switch controllers for a whopping 80 bucks since day 1

ssj272384d ago

And xbox elite controller cost 150 and people buy it. So if allows you to be used as a portable screen in home or wifi outside home usi g your ps5 as a server like it does now with the ps4 remote play i will gladly pay 150 for it. Maybe have a opinion with for like $150 and a opinion without screen for regular price. And also give the option to stream through usb c cable to tv or and wifi direct to a tv

Profchaos2384d ago (Edited 2384d ago )

I think the screen would have taken the price up to much cool concept though I hope I'm wrong but it looks like a touchpad

DarXyde2384d ago

Sounds like they're doing some interesting things to balance the design. I really liked the DualShock 4 and I completely expect the design to be similar to that. Not a final design, but there are, in my opinion, too many specific considerations for this to not be pretty close to the final product: the larger triggers, absent light bar, and smaller sticks seem to be good indications of that.
