Killzone 2 = GOTY 2009

Their games coming out in 09 that maybe even better than Killzone 2 in 09 also games which gets over hyped like Killzone 2 it at the moment ends up a big flop like many ps3 games which were hyped.

believe me .. GOTY 2009 is GOW3 or Alan Wake .. its really hard for FPS game to be GOTY .. i'm not saying KZ2 is bad game .. i played it Online and its really great game .. but facing GOW3 and maybe alan Wake is really hard .. specially when it come to the story telling .. and don't say Heavy Rain .. i'm big Fan of indigo prophecy\fahrenheit but we are talking about GOTY .

If Team Icos ps3 project,new zelda wii,new mario and stuff likt that comes 2009,Killzone 2 will be destroyed.But it has a good chance.I dont think that Killzone 2 will be GOTY 2009!

Might not be GoTY 2009 simply because it is a exclusive game, i don't think now - with us having these 3 very strong consoles we will be seeing many exclusive GoTY games this gen.

But i'm in the beta, and i'd be willing to give it the shooter of 09.

There is almost no reason to think that KZ2 will be AAA. The only hope is the time and money being spent on it. Otherwise, the talent is unproven.

and while the game is surprisingly fantastic (gameplay and graphics CAN coexist!), there is so much competition next year i just can't see it pulling of GOTY.

the competition is simply too stiff.

Alan Wake could really surprise.
Heavy Rain also.
Gran Turismo 5 may actually appear next year.
Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3 will probably hit Japan next year.
White Knight Chronicles is another contender.
inFamous may surprise people.
Star Ocean 4 is another good candidate.
Uncharted 2 could make a surprise appearance next year (it'll be two years since the original next year).
and of course, God of War 3 is probably the biggest title releasing next year in terms of anticipation. GOW is an extremely loved franchise.
hell, even the sequel to Beyond Good and Evil could have a shot at GOTY, if it's anything like the original in terms of quality.

and there are plenty more titles hitting next year that i can't think of at the moment, but could easily be sleeper hits.

Killzone 2 is most CERTAINLY a candidate, but can it stand atop the heap? i don't know.

visually, right now, it beats ANY console game i've ever seen, and i'm only playing MULTI-PLAYER, so i can imagine how much better the single player campaign looks. the gameplay is also exceptional and intense, so i don't think that will be a problem (although web sites still burned from the unveiling of the graphics, and having those graphics look damn near close to the CG Target Render will probably nitpick gameplay elements out of spite; like how heavy your character feels when he moves; he has a weight to him, and the weapons feel "heavy" also. it's startlingly immersive).

in either case, there's some good stuff coming.

as for the topic(s) of this article, it sounds laughable. HD DVD is DEAD. GONE. get over it. it's not coming back. there's no way you'll convince the mainstream to support TWO different formats. a part of me thinks they're being facetious about HD DVD making a comeback though.

Trophies, like Achievements, ultimately serve no real purpose beyond bragging rights, but unless they are tied to game progression (ie, in Uncharted and Resistance 2, getting Trophies earns you points to unlock "cheats," usable in the game), i don't care much for them.

as for the futures of the PS3 and 360? i see both making their respective companies a lot of money eventually. it's the WII that i'm concerned about. especially once consoles like the PS3 drop down to the $250 range (it'll happen eventually, it always does).

i think its a bit early to be saying game of the year 2009 since its still 2008. that being said killzone two looks absolultely stinning

There are two sick games that are coming out in 09 to keep me occupied the whole year Killzone 2 and God of war 3.

Im in the KZ2 beta it has amazing graphics very few glitches.It could win GOTY for 2009 but there are still games that have not been told to the public so it might have competion maybe not.

But 2009 is gonna be a really big year. KZ2 may not be the GOTY. It may be some other title that will wow us. You'd have to be a fool to think you know so much about the coming year, based off what we know now.

I remember hearing that there would be a greater purpose for trophies down the line from TheHipHopGamerShow. Maybe that fewl knew what he was talking about, after all.

Now that Jim Ryan is gone just need to remove Herman Hulst from his position! And maybe give Shuhei the position he deserved.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

So now there's certifiable proof that Ryan was in fact "fired", as opposed to when it was first announced that he "retired", in order to save face.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
