I’d say a lot more than 49% of gamers in general have bought mtx. Which is why they keep selling them. And why you yearn for government regulation because your cries ring on deaf ears.

I bought cosmetics for one game - Planetside 2 on PS4. I was really addicted to that game for a spell. I assume I'm part of that 49%.

Not everyone of us can use our brains.

And for some reason, 99% of gamers complain about them.
In all honesty, most of these MTs purchases are coming from F2P games.

As a parent its very very frustrating to have your 7 yr old drive you crazy for that nonsense. The headaches and arguments its created, really sucks sometimes!

My friend a grown man of thirty nine years of age when and bought some gun parts for a sniper rifle in Ghost Recon Breakpoint, spending ten dollars for them. Says he couldn't help it, cause he wanted to make his gun stronger. Whereas he could have gone in the internet to see where the guns parts are located within the game for free most likely.

He buys these microtransactions still after I've told him all about how these companies are fleecing people out of their money for non neccessary things just because you're not willing to put in the work to get the reward naturally. How Fortnite makes millions of dollars in a month of a free to okay game just selling cosmetics that do nothing or gives an unfair advantage in other games.

What did I expect when he continues to by NBA2K every year then still complain about it after buying. Same with MLB The Show, CoD. Told him not to waste his money on Breakpoint but got it anyway, and now complains about no friendly AI teammates and everything else wrong with the game.

The problem is that nobody is actually doing MICRO transactions and the value always sucks.
If you consider 60$ gets you a game engine, tens of thousands of textures, hundreds of character models, music, video and all kinds of game modes and mechanics, then how is 5$ for a single texture fair by any means?
I too have supported developers with microtransactions, but they are those who make free to play games that aren't really p2w. Think stuff like Path of Exile.

I spend a few bucks on Puzzle and Dragons once in a while. Definitely not like the whales that spend $1k+ looking for a specific roll.

2 things:
1) How much of this is exclusively driven by Fortnite, which has become more of a mainstream thing that the n4g crowd wouldn't touch? I'd love to see numbers with Fortnite removed.

2) I'd love to see this broken down by age. For whatever reason, cosmetic MTs seem to really appeal to younger kids/teens right now. Not trying to do a "dumb kids these days" argument, as we didn't even have the option to spend money on MTs when I was that age, so it's impossible to compare my generation. It's just that, for whatever reason, that generation doesn't seem to have any aversion to small purchases in a game like people over the age of 20 do. My theory is that it's because they grew up with smartphones and app purchases, where we didn't, but that may not be right.

Personally I'll buy a multiplat game that interests me & if it has MTs I'll pay it absolutely no mind because it doesn't interest me especially after I've paid full price for the game. DLC story expansion I will pay for if I want to continue playing a game that I enjoyed. Some folks don't mind wasting their money buying MTs even though they have paid full price for a game & personally I don't care it's their game & their money which has nothing to do with me or it having any effect on my life. To each their own.
