Wow another 10. We all knew this game was not for everyone but I am surprised that among the ones that like it, they praise it very high.

Veneno2410d ago

I'm curious if this game is not for everyone than is there a game that IS for everyone? There has to be if you can describe it this way.

rainslacker2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

Tetris
Pac-Man
Probably some others.

I think you're taking the term too seriously. You have to look at it in context.

A game like this isn't going to have broad appeal that some games have. That's basically what is being said.

LiViNgLeGaCY2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

God, I can't remember the last time I saw such polarizing reviews for a game.

1nsomniac2410d ago

This is Kojima, he could pull a dead slug from his arse and tell people it was life imitating art and the fanboys would gush that it’s the most deepest, inspirational thing they’ve ever seen. The rest of the world walks on by smirking looking to see where the hidden candid cameras are. Puzzled and amazed at what the hell happened to the world.

Hungryalpaca2410d ago

Oh so all the positive reviews are just fanboys? Got it.

rainslacker2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

If Kojima pulled a dead slug from his back side, my first thought wouldn't be about his artistic creativity, nor would I find it in any way inspirational.

Hungryalpaca2410d ago

They’re not really polarizing. 90% of them are overwhelmingly positive.

rainslacker2410d ago

Yeah....that's what I'm confused on to. I haven't seen a lot of this polorization people are talking about. Maybe because all the reviews haven't posted on Meta yet, but as far as I can tell, this game is reviewing pretty well across the board. Only one troll review posted so far, from Sevitor(sp), which is always ridiculous for anything not Nintendo. There are only a few in the 60, maybe 10% in the 70's, and the rest are 80-100, with most being above 90.

That isn't polarizing, that is a game with good critical reception.

jordan22290ps2410d ago

The reviewer basically just says how much he loves Kojima and then says a bunch of things wrong with the game and still gives a 10...

goldwyncq2410d ago

Another guy who willingly denies that the emperor wears no clothes.

SegaGamer2410d ago

Exactly. The best people to review this game are people that haven't attached their lips to Kojima's ass. How are we supposed to take their reviews seriously if they are going to be such fanboys?

It would be like asking me to review Shenmue 3. I'm going to love it no matter what, there is no way I couldn't be biased about it.

generic-user-name2410d ago

There's no such thing as an unbiased review. Getting someone who dislikes kojima to review it will have the same bias, but the opposite way.

GlitchEffect2410d ago

How much I love Kojima? Is that really it? I respect the man's work but I also identify all his problems. As a reviewer, that's my job, to warn you about the game's possible problems and shortcomings. But for me? For the experience I had with the game, it's mechanics and the payoff at the end? It's a 10 and it will always be a 10.
Not everyone is a fanboy. Sometimes, the experience just speaks louder. But thanks for reading!

P.S. - Nothing is perfect, like I said on the review. Should we just stop giving 10s?

Spurg2410d ago

"It's not perfect, nothing is, but Death Stranding will be forever spoken and remembered for what it is - a Hideo Kojima game"

But it got a perfect score. The words are not reflecting the score

Plus the amount of times Kojima's name was mentioned in this review is staggering.

generic-user-name2410d ago

I'd love for you to show me a 10/10 game that is without flaws.

GlitchEffect2410d ago

Hey. You're missing the point. Nothing is perfect, everything has problems because art is subjective. The game is a 10 for me, even with its problems, because of the gameplay and the emotions I felt playing it. How can you quantify it? I can, it's a 10.

Please, play the game and see what you think. Don't try to devaluate other opinions or reviews. Try the game, specially if you are a fan of Kojima's work. If it works for you, fine, welcome aboard, if not, the world continues.

Of course I say his name. You wouldn't?

But thanks for reading!

Gatsu2410d ago

All the games that have gotten a 10/10 aren't perfect. Even GOW or TLOU. No game is.

Kumakai2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

I’m sorry but I can’t take a review seriously that gives a game a 10 while saying it has problems. That’s contradictory and not objective. Another peak into the ps4 reality bias. I have no doubt the reviewer thinks the game is amazing - that’s fine. But a perfect 10 score means there are zero flaws... perfect. So you can’t give a perfect score and talk about flaws. You can forgive the flaws. But that’s what a 9 score is for. Do people even “try” to be professional journalists anymore?

Atticus_finch2410d ago

Going by your logic no game would ever get 10/10 because perfection is an idea not reality.
No game is perfect but some stand out because how good they are.

rainslacker2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

So, when all those RDR2 scores came out with 10's and the reviewer said they weren't fun, was that PS bias, or just reviewers who can't review properly, and don't have any kind of standard for assigning a score?

A perfect 10 hasn't meant zero flaws in a very long time. Now, it's assigned to games that give an overall experience which make the flaws seem trivial. Or, for some dumb reason which may involve money or fanboyism. There isn't a single game nowadays which is without flaw...either from bugs, or from a design perspective. It just doesn't happen anymore, and people place different weights on those flaws to decide how important they are.

GlitchEffect2410d ago

I was going to write a reply but you pretty much said it all. Nothing is perfect but we can see beyond the problems and find what we love. That's what happened while I was playing Death Stranding. It's a game that's gonna stay with me for a very long time.

I don't understand why everone is fighting about scores. Why is it so bad for Death Stranding to receive a 10? Isn't it great for a game to be good?

Well, I don't know, but I hope this negativity dies down in a few days. Thanks for reading and commenting!

rainslacker2409d ago

The fighting for this game is a double whammy.

1. It's currently a PS exclusive, which means people are going to contest the scores if they want it to be lower. There just isn't as much to go on, but they would do so regardless. Instead, these people are focusing in on a few key things from the reviews to try and say why those scores are wrong.

2. It's a Kojima game, and he became the cool guy to hate last gen due to the delay and subsequent unfinished release of MGSV. Didn't matter that in his entire career, that was the one oddball out.

In the end, it won't matter. if it's anything like Days Gone, the more some people try to bring it down, the more people will speak up if they like it. I assume there are those who will like it at least, as I haven't played it yet so can't personally judge. But, because of the negativity, it actually managed to get a lot more word of mouth marketing as a lot of people were talking about it. So, that kind of backfired on the fan boys trying to bring it down.

generic-user-name2410d ago

Show me your 10/10 games and I'll show you flaws.

Flaws can be overshadowed if what the game does right is good enough.

Hideo Kojima put Low Roar in Death Stranding because gamers need more culture in their lives

It's important in life to maintain a broad palette when it comes to culture and the arts. Hideo Kojima agrees, as he continues to use video games like Death Stranding to introduce people to music and other elements they might not otherwise discover.

Cool, as long as no one is losing their job while already rich people make more money.

Notellin233d ago

Exactly this right here. Tools should never replace creators.

DarXyde233d ago

I feel that this is the position of every sensible person. However, we face two prominent issues:

1. There are nefarious actors (like Microsoft) who want to prohibit AI regulation. Some US states have some regulations in place, but it's very patchwork at best.

2. Without strict quality control and human review, AI is very likely to hallucinate in embarrassing ways.

TheEroica233d ago

Lol.... People are gonna be losing their jobs...

Travesty234d ago

I’m all in favor for faster developed games.. that’s been the Achilles heel this gen.. taking 5+ years for development. If it can help with building vast landscapes then let it be. A win win if it doesn’t endanger the jobs of current team. They can help in other areas.

Gamersunite880234d ago

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

H9234d ago

I don't doubt kojima that he has good intentions and would use AI without compromising the creative process, but you know for sure other development will say the same and have AI make the whole game for them.

Notellin233d ago (Edited 233d ago )

Yeah and whoever he works for or whatever AI models he chooses to use will train on his data and work to replace Kojima themselves.

I can't imagine any other creator in gaming that demands the salary size of Kojima.

rlow1234d ago

What I wonder about, let’s say five years from now. Will an individual be able to make a triple A title using A.I…If so what would be the need for others? I hate to say it but eventually people will loose their jobs. Because I hear no talk about the ethics of using A.I. among the big companies.
