Don't think "bigger" has been the problem. The issue is making it feel dense and alive.

P_Bomb2408d ago

Bigger has never been my issue. Just the thought of the extra collectibles, checklists and decompressed story required to fill that space sends a shiver down my ocd spine lol.

I’d rather someone throw down the 60fps gauntlet for open worlds. Keep the current size but double the frame rate in it. Make that the ‘better’.

Lennoxb632408d ago

Consoles will never prioritize 60 fps. Especially for open world games. Frame rates don't sell games.

P_Bomb2408d ago (Edited 2408d ago )

I know, but for diversity it doesn’t hurt. Given the option I’d sacrifice 8K for smoother gameplay at 4K or less. I like that about mid-gen refresh games like Nioh, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Witcher 3, Forza Horizon 4. Hope that’s a toggle they continue going forward. RDR2 PC in 60fps is mint. Unfortunately, I fear the race to bigger will lean more towards things like 8K, even though more 4KTVs including my own support that untapped 120hz.

Kingthrash3602408d ago (Edited 2408d ago )

They said that about the scorpio and I seen nothing get bigger. In fact in comparison between all consoles and pc, when games are 3rd party and on all platforms I've never seen on platform have a 'bigger world' just prettier ones. Crackdown 3 was a small "open word" game with small mp maps...gears 5 was longer and just added a empty open world that was available on the much weaker xbox one ...This article is fluff.

Yes or u will have a red dead situation dead and empty

zoramax2408d ago

That could add to the atmosphere though, look at Death Stranding.

DarXyde2407d ago

Agreed.

I think the world of The Witcher III was plenty big enough. In terms of liveliness, I think it's the gold standard for the current generation.

rainslacker2406d ago

Bigger to me just means it takes longer to get around to get the interesting stuff, and hoping it has a decent fast travel system so I end up not having to worry about wasting time traveling around the world.

The most truthful statement I've ever read.

No thanks! Enough filler and endless/pointless traversal already. Make concise, active/reactive worlds filled with just enough meaningful stuff to do and things to see.

Bigger is not better in this case("that's what she said-ers" suck it up) quality is!

Rimeskeem2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

Wording is important here. Bigger worlds arent often better, Sony has stated they are looking to make more immersive and interactive worlds that are more physically dynamic. I'd rather have a world that responds to my choices (even the small ones like breaking a fence) than a world that takes me 25 minutes to run across.

A good open world game that had a smaller map but great denseness to it was Horizon. But you also cant just have a destructible environment (as seen by Crackdown 3).

ReadyPlayer222407d ago

Everything you stayed up there was stated by Microsoft already in the reveal video

Rimeskeem2406d ago

Yes, cause im gonna remember everything said in a reveal trailer from people talking about the system without any repetition to the points. My main point here is wording, if MS wants the selling point of a console to be the above, they gotta make sure they are saying the right things EVERYTIME.

ReadyPlayer222406d ago

It isn't my fault that you can't remember what MS said. It's just fact that Sony had to clarify that their console does hardware Ray tracing too because MS said it and Sony didn't. So both need to be clearer, but Sony's doing all of the talking right now.

Kavorklestein2407d ago (Edited 2407d ago )

I hope the worlds have more life in them. Kinda like GTA or AC: Origins/Odyssey.
Also, to go with these bigger worlds, can we please have 2 and 3 TB console options this time?? Or part of the storage be SSD and the other part be a standard HDD?
Serious questions.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio27d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing27d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit27d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing27d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9227d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
