I hope its Horizon ZD2. Its gotta be that. 2021 spring seems like a perfect fit for the new release.

Horizon 2 will launch day one with Ps5 along with demon souls remake

UltraNova2403d ago

I really really hope that's true. I cant wait to play demon's with a stable and faster framerate.

I_am_Batman2403d ago (Edited 2403d ago )

I highly doubt that. PS5 will come out three years after the release of Frozen Wilds. Even if they went into pre-production right after Zero Dawn came out, it'll be approximately three and a half years. It's gonna be a sequel, which potentially saves some development time compared to starting a new IP from scratch, but it's also gonna be a new console generation. That means, that a lot of work has to be put into updating the engine and reworking the assets.

I think a 4 year development time is being very optimistic, with 5 being more realistic, considering Guerrilla's goals will be pretty ambitious with this title.

I do think that we'll see at least a teaser before the launch of the PS5 though. Maybe even a gameplay demo at E3 2020. My guess for a release window would be early 2022.

sampsonon2403d ago (Edited 2403d ago )

@I_am_Batman
I have to disagree with your 2022 date. they didn't just start Frozen Wilds when they released the base game. they would have already started it months before while some of the devs polished and put the final coat of paint on HZD. Usually a game started from scratch, meaning building a new engine, takes about 5 yrs to make. in this case the foundation is already set and all they need to do is make another story and add new characters and bots.
i think it's either a launch title or an early 2021 title.

3 years is all they really need to make a sequel when they don't need to build an engine and come up with core mechanics.

I_am_Batman2403d ago (Edited 2403d ago )

@sampsonon: If this was a PS4 game I'd agree. I doubt Guerrilla is gonna make a Ubisoft-style sequel, where most of the game-mechanics stay the same. I think they are being very ambitious and try to push every aspect of the sequel to the next level. 2022 might be a bit conservative but I'd honestly be shocked if they were ready for the PS5 launch.

But of course I'm speculating on the base of nothing really, so without knowing what has been going on behind the scenes we can't know for sure. If I had to take a wild guess I'd say Gran Turismo is gonna be Sony's first big exclusive with Horizon 2 coming out later. Japan Studio might have something for the launch window as well.

TGGJustin2403d ago (Edited 2403d ago )

I really doubt Horizon 2 launches with PS5. The reason being Sony will already have 2 HUGE games in 2020 in TLOU 2 and Ghost of Tsushima. I very much doubt they will launch a third major title in the same year. It's far more likely that they save it for early 2021. PS5 will likely get Demons Souls remake, a Gran Turismo Sport port or sequel like game, and maybe something else from Japan Studio at launch along with possible PS5 versions of TLOU 2 and Ghost.

Batman

Please do some research on how game development works. The last 9-12 months of development is used for polish and a big part of development team has already started ore production in sequel

By the time game comes out the sequel if planned is already in development and within a month or so after launch goes in full production. Since it's a sequel they don't have to start from scratch and 3.5-4 years us more than enough time for a sequel

Imagine if they came out with yet another new IP that was as good as H:ZD. That'd propel them even further into legendary dev status. H:ZD was the most refreshing new IP this gen. Nice open world, fun deep game play, cool premise, likable main character, and solid story.

It's always nice seeing a dev being recognized for more than what has essentially just a fan following. KZ was always a solid series, but it was overshadowed by Halo, and they often didn't get the credit they deserved for being great devs.

UltraNova2403d ago

I'd prefer a rebooted Killzone first since it feels like yesterday I've been playing HZD...

Applejack2403d ago

The game released nearly three years ago.

UltraNova2403d ago

Apple,
I've played it last year... That said the last Killzone game was 7 years ago and it wasn't the best it could have been so....

GamerHeaven2403d ago

@Ultra
If developers are going to care about when every gamer played their games we will never get sequels... I'm sure someone is playing HZD today...

UltraNova2403d ago

@gamer

Never said they should care when we play their games. The point here is that its Kilzone's turn now since the last one came out a lot longer than HZD, you can agree or disagree it makes no difference to me.

HZD 2 obviously, but I doubt it’ll be a launch title for the PS5 not enough time.

neutralgamer19922403d ago

More than enough time since most of the core design work is done and all they have to do is improve. Think of this as uncharted 1 to uncharted 2

Stanjara2403d ago

If they're doing motion capture now, than I don't believe this game will be ready at launch. There is lot of production involved, script, quests, open world, new hardware...oh boy.

Lilrizky2403d ago

@stanjara actually the motion capture studio in question does CGI reveal trailers. They did Mass Effect Andromeda and Cuberpunks CGI trailer. Could be prepping a reveal trailer.

rainslacker2403d ago (Edited 2403d ago )

@Stanjara

Mocap usually starts 12-18 months before a game goes gold. By then, they've finalized the story elements to fit in with the game play, so there is less need for reshoots, and less need to spend time recording stuff they won't use. It will also depend on the amount of mocap that needs to be done, but for the most part, time in the studio is only 4-8 weeks. Additional dialogue which may not need mocap is usually recorded 6-12 months before a game is considered finish.

TGGJustin2403d ago

I don't think it's about time I think it's about making sure they have a big title for different times. I think Sony saves Horizon 2 for early 2021 to make sure they have a major release that year. They already have TLOU 2 and Ghost for 2020. There is no need to throw Horizon 2 in there as well. You can look at how Sony has been handling releases the past few years and see that this outcome is likely.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio15d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing15d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit15d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing15d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
