I am looking forward to the footage and more info on the the service itself. I would have already gotten the gamepass but I don't have an xbox or a gaming laptop to run games on decent setting. So, once they release the xcloud service I am definitely going to get it because I won't need a high end pc to stream the games. Just good internet service which I got covered with Google fiber.
I did have couple of questions.
Are the games available on xcloud service going to be the same as gamepass?
Or do you guys think it will be two separate list of games for two different services?

timotim2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

Yeah, that Google Fiber should be more than enough to handle these games. Congrats, that's awesome internet.

The details are still unknown at this point though. I can give you my take on it. I feel xCloud will be rolled into XGP...or at least XGP Ultimate. Allowing you to both stream or download any and all XGP titles on any device depending on which devices you have. I also see xCloud as living outside of XGP as well, allowing anyone to simply purchase a game outright and be able to stream that game to a number of devices including non Microsoft devices. I feel xCloud is about options...letting the player play anywhere...including streaming, no matter where they are.

darthv722401d ago

I was under the impression that xcloud is for you to stream YOUR games from xbo to mobile device (remote play) as well as those games you have access to that are in gamepass (so long as you are a member). So if you do not have an xbo or gamepass then it wouldnt work.

Christopher2401d ago

@darthv72: It's two separate things.

The next Xbox console will allow you to turn your console into a streaming device that is capable of allowing you to remote play with it as the source server.

XCloud is a streaming alternative not tied to next gen consoles and doesn't rely on your own console. It's more akin to Stadia and PSNow streaming.

ilikestuff2401d ago

When clouds send rain down it turns to a stream, so this all makes sense

darthv722401d ago

@chris, thanks I knew there was some element of the console being used to stream. I know the xbo is capable but that makes sense for them to have scarlett do it seeing as it would be even more capable.

2401d ago
The_Hooligan2401d ago

Thank you all for the info
@ darthv72 - I did hear about that where xbox becomes your own streaming device and just like you mentioned it would work as remote play but from anywhere you have access to the internet.
@ Christopher - I hope it is like PSNow where even if you don't have a ps4 you can access and stream games on PC.
@ gamingunited - I am sure it has to do more than just a good internet, but I will tell you once I switched from time warner/spectrum to Google I haven't had any slowdowns in streaming movies, games, etc.

I am really looking forward to this service. Hopefully I will be able to play xbox games soon without investing money in another console or PC. More options to access more games I have never played before is a good thing in my opinion.

battlegrog2401d ago

This is why its funny when the hardwares troll this concept. There is so many people like you and i that these idiots dont realize. Im all for this and not have to have all the hardware

Mopedgames2401d ago

@The_Hooligan

"I am really looking forward to this service. Hopefully I will be able to play xbox games soon without investing money in another console or PC. More options to access more games I have never played before is a good thing in my opinion"

Um, the service isn't going to be free, you could spend $250-500 and have a console for life versus paying $9-20 dollars a month... nothing about what you said makes any sense if cost is any kind of a consideration. And the games aren't going to be included in that streaming cost.

And just for the record streaming movies is not the same as live gaming. When you stream a movie the content is buffered so latency and packet loss don't effect what you see.

The_Hooligan2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

@Mopedgames

Yes, I know the service is not going to be free. And to your point even after buying the console/pc I would still have to buy the games or get a service like gamepass. So i would still be paying for the service/games on top of the initial cost of the console/pc. But, if I just pay for the service that lets me play games without the initial cost of the console/pc, I would come out cheaper. Now, this is all an assumption because I really don't know what will be included in xCloud. I am hoping it lets me stream games from gamepass rather than downloading them on my laptop.

And I know streaming movies is different than games. I have PSNow and I am able to stream games on it just fine.

bouzebbal2400d ago

Is this only available on mobile? How about android TVs and other devices in general?

Picking a fighting game for the demo is a pretty bold move. Fighting games tend to have the lowest tolerance for input lag of any other genre due to frame keying moves for combos.

Of all the games listed, it would be the one I'm most curious to hear reports on how well it runs. I know on psnow or remote play, the few fighting games I tried were highly sensitive to lag, and in general, I found its playability often compromised to the point it wasnt worth playing

Performance metrics from South Korea would be very interesting, considering Korea has the best and fastest Internet infrastructure in the world. That's if MS releases said metrics...then again independent testers might so lets see.

Christopher2401d ago

More interesting to me is metrics from places like Houston, Texas. Good download speeds, shit upload. Supposed to be a major U.S. city but has subpar Internet capabilities compared to tons of much smaller locales.

UltraNova2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

Agreed, when we have metrics from both Korea for optimal connections and US Cities with sub-optimal connections then we'll have a more balanced view of xclouds performance under limited stress beta conditions that is.

I've played Halo 5 with xCloud, hardly any delay. It plays like I'm playing on the console. Superb image quality at 1080p.

Sm00thNinja2401d ago

I played the PS5 and can say the exact same thing superb image quality at 16k

CurbStompin2401d ago

Except one of you is full of shit, and the other is smoking meth.

Sm00thNinja2401d ago

You'd have to be an idiot to believe I was being anything but sarcastic.....

AngelicIceDiamond2401d ago

If that's the case then why do does anyone need Stadia for?

Ratchet752401d ago

Xcloud is a better package for me.
You bring your own games to the clouds via a monthly fee service.
I wished psnow would be available on Android too.

CaptainCook2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

If you have less download speed mbps then the recommend mbps, you'll end up getting a delay.

2401d ago
CaptainCook2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

@gamingunited

I meant to say he was lagging.

In the UK vodafone is limited to 4mbps for Unlimited download with no data caps.

ILostMyMind2401d ago

Everyone will end up getting delay.

2401d ago Replies(3)
Neonridr2401d ago

the uploader does mention in the comments section that they only have 12mbps download. Not saying that is the reason for the delay, but it's something to note.

Shikoku2401d ago

No one cares my datacap wont allow me to play any streaming service for more than 2 days a month with the other streaming I do.

King_Noctis2401d ago

No one care about this service because you have limited data cap?

Ok.

Christopher2401d ago

No no no. He left out a word.

"No one cares THAT my datacap won't allow me to play any streaming service...."

Shikoku2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

the majority of people have a datacaps no one will care about "the netflix of gaming" when the overages start adding up. Get some education on the actually subject then open your mouth.

CurbStompin2401d ago

Clearly its not for you. Move along..

Christopher2401d ago

I think it's important to remind people of this limitation as long as it's not just spamming it. Let other gamers express the affect of gaming advancements for them. No need to try and shoo them away.

King_Noctis2401d ago (Edited 2401d ago )

It is you who should do some research, for better internet package that is. Hell, I live in a third world country but even I have unlimited Wifi data usage.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio12d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing12d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9212d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit12d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing12d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9212d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

Eonjay14d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn215d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn214d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown15d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay14d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay14d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac14d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger15d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300015d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde15d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde14d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".
