I think of it as an alternative to the base game price going up. Games were $50-80 brand new back in the SNES days. Accounting for inflation in 1995 dollars, $50 would be $84 nowadays. Games have cost the same thing since then but inflation makes use seem even luckier. So if it takes microtransactions and a few whales to help offset that inflation and make us not have to pay upwards of $100 for a new game, I welcome it.

They are a bit ridiculous and get ever-more-predatory. But the alternative would seem to be the up-front premium going up significantly compared to what we pay now.

I'm just not purchasing games that are heavy on micro-transactions, and I haven't been purchasing games like that for quite a few years now. Gaming is a hobby, not a necessity of life, so people should consider not buying new games at all, as the only thing you miss out on is the hype.

I just bought Shadow of the Tomb Raider for half price during a Steam sale, and the game is as good today as it was when it released, or perhaps even better,with all of the post release content included in the Croft Edition.

I’m used to it. I don’t buy pay to win games period. I don’t buy MTs at all: sometimes I buy DLC but not very often . Games like The Witcher 3 had great DLC .

I have black ops 4 and I haven't spent all my free cod points on the micro transactions yet. The micro transactions suck and they aren't really worth spending cod points. In my opinion if developers are so tight on cash why don't they raise the price of games instead of shoving micro transactions down our throats? It's a shitty business model and a sign of the gaming developers using the if it's not broke don't fix it model. Maybe we'll have a gaming crash sometime soon to sort this mess out. In my opinion micro transactions are the scum of gaming and it isn't worth a penny. Come up with a better business model or just ride off in the sunset.

What a dumb article, you may have gotten used to taking it in the ass from these corporations but every gamer with a brain certainly isn't going to just "get used to it"

I'm used to microtransactions being in games. I'm also used to ignoring those games because I'm not going to get nickle and dimed to death for colorful hats. I don't need these games. I don't need a future in gaming that is as financially exploitative as modern games often are.

I can remember when having a new look for your character was as easy as going online and downloading a new skin for Quake or Unreal Tournament or whatever else you were playing. The work was in the game and if you bought the game, you were done giving money to the publisher.

We can all ignore them and do our part and that's great. The issue is the younger kids who don't understand the value of money. I have a friend with an 11 year old boy who spends any money he earns on Fortnite skins, he even went as far as stealing his mother's credit card and buying everything he could on Fortnite.

So long as games catered towards the cheap thrill of showing off cosmetic items and being the coolest looking character out your group of friends exists, I'm afraid MT's will as well.

I hate this mentality. We better get used to getting taken advantage of, pretty much. There are MT's that work, if the company is willing to take the time to do it right, but for every one company that does it in a decent way, there's 4 that are looking to nickle and dime the hell out of us.

I hate microtransactions but I'm afraid that they probably won't go away. Although over 90% of gamers never buy any MT, that 10% is enough for companies. This has happened in mobile gaming, even in mobile games only tiny portion of gamers buy any MT. If there are 100 million downloads for a free-to-play game, only 5-10 million only pay anything and rest of the players use 0 dollars. This strategy only works because some can use hundreds of dollars for MT. This applies to all mobile games.

How about no! We will not compromise. We don't want microtransactions or the shill media that supports it.

Never give in to loot boxes and illegal gambling in our video games. People like the ones who wrote this article are not on our side and we should never give up fighting. As soon as our words go silent, gaming will be doomed forever. We must not go down without a fight. I know to some people this sounds ridiculous but this fight is important to me and that's all that matters.

MT is cancer. I'm tired of so called balanced gameplay with no real benefits for the players , like I already believe 12 yrs old kids trying to school me about "balanced gameplay" and when I start debating them they turn their faces and say non of your business I will spend on whatever I want.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.

Wuchang is great. Nine Sols didn’t have a physical copy so I never played it but I’ve heard good things so I will check it out. I stopped playing sports games many years ago when before the card dlc’s or whatever they’re called.
