I agree, I’d definitely like the ps5 to be big, I’d say 1.5 times the size of the ps4 minimum. I just feel like a big console is more reminiscent of days past.

umair_s512404d ago

I will wait for price drop if it is not bc with PS4. Would appreciate it if it had bc with PS3

darthv722403d ago

BC is important. It was important then (when sony was supporting it and later decided to stop). And its important now (when sony decided to start supporting it again).

There is nothing wrong with having options. Having the widest range of games to play (both old and new) only adds to the platforms strengths.

The ability to pop in a past gen game doesnt devalue the platform in any way. Those who dont use it... fine. But those who do should be allowed to enjoy it to its fullest.

Muzikguy2404d ago

With 4 it does for sure. Upscaling(PS4) games to 4k will be a big selling point. I'd love to see PS1 and PS2 on it as well. Doubt 3 will happen.

sagapo2404d ago

Agreed! Would love to see my PS4 games run on higher res or fps or both ;)
The architecture will be similar so I don’t think PS4 games will be a problem for BC, I have my doubts for older gen games tho.

Still doesn't matter, but its certainly nice to have.

ABizzel12403d ago

Yes and no.

PS4 100% matters, and they have no choice but to add it, otherwise it will make a lot of fans angry.

PS3, PS2, PS1.... not so much. Those games matter to an extent for preserving the PlayStation history, however, Sony doesn't have a problem remaking and remastering their older franchises, so many fans have no problem with.

PS4 BC is the most important, meanwhile, PS1 and PS2 should be easily emulated. PS3 is the only questionable one, but honestly, PS+ is probably going to be their answer for the meantime.

RedDevils2403d ago

If Sony want to bring their PS4 userbase to PS5 then YES!

It's definitely a great feature and I'm hoping it will have it for Sony's past gen games also....BC is definitely a great feature but not necessary to have.

Kribwalker2404d ago

not necessary for sure, but definitely wanted by a lot of PS4 fans, as a recent poll from IGN shows that 42% of people think it’s the best feature that’s been announced for the PS5.
https://twitter.com/IGN/sta...

I wonder if Jim ryan is pulling a 180 now that they are gonna include in in the PS5

Kingthrash3602404d ago

Ps4 sold 100,000,000 consoles
1% of that is is 1,000,000....
If this survey made by ign had 1 million voters it would only account for 1% of owners....I knew they didn't even count 10,000...BC is ok, but it ain't the biggest thing.. PS5 games are the biggest thing...can literally olay BC games RIGHT NOW. smh crazy to think people are acting like this is what gamers want

Mr_Writer852404d ago (Edited 2404d ago )

@krib

It's not really a 180.

A) It's not his choice. He has nothing to do with the capability or design of the PS5, he was simply giving an opinion.

B) He was talking about older generations, not that it makes his pont valid.

PS4, when the PS5 arrives, will of been last gen, not 3 or 4 gens ago.

I saw him in saying, why would you play old games (as in 3-4 gens ago old) when you have modern games and tech, Gran Turismo being an example.

How many people out of the millions of PS4 owners would choose to play Gran Turismo 1/2 over Gran Turismo Sport?

I'd guess double digit numbers, at best.

Obscure_Observer2404d ago

@Kingthrash360

IGN is the world´s biggest gaming website! The vast majority of its audience are Playstation gamers! I would take their numbers over your delusional assumptions any day!

The Wood2404d ago (Edited 2404d ago )

It's simple maths and logic really. Framing 'turnaround' is just indicative of the angles most from a specific faction champion. We all know why they couldn't. They won't be in that situation now. People are trying to elevate bc to a higher status than the games their provider lack. Just look how important bc was on a grand scale. What was more important this gen plus I notice people are acting like the xbox launched with bc or had full bc. C'mon guys. . Divert your attention to the company lagging behind

MasterCornholio2404d ago (Edited 2404d ago )

@Krib and Obscure

You do know that having BC will make it alot harder for people to switch consoles right? And it's also most important at the beginning of a generation.

This is probably why Sony is making an effort to add BC because they don't want people switching over to the competition. It could even increase the gap between the two platforms if its marketed right.

"You do know that having BC will make it alot harder for people to switch consoles right? And it's also most important at the beginning of a generation."

FACTS 100% but they can't see that lol

gangsta_red2403d ago (Edited 2403d ago )

@krib
Sure are a lot of excuses for a poll showing how PS4 gamers want BC.

Kribwalker2403d ago

@mr writer

he’s talking about why would people play older games, it makes no sense, all the while his company is selling you these old games, again (some ps2 games offered on ps4) and offering them on PSnow.

Why offer if no ones gonna play them?

Saigon2403d ago

These online polls can be rigged. Are we sure no malice was involved with this poll? I know some people would love to distort these polls to show what they believe everyone should favor. I myself wouldn't have chosen BC over those other features and there are many on here that think the same. Because of that, I call malice.

MasterCornholio2403d ago (Edited 2403d ago )

@Naruto

Yeah from a business point of view it makes sense for the console to have BC. Sony already sold over 100million PS4s and I'm pretty sure many of those people will bring their games over to PS5. If they were to buy another system they would lose their ability to play those games unless they keep their old consoles.

I agree that BC is great for consumers but Sony is only doing it to retain their user base and to hurt the competition.

rainslacker2403d ago

I think if the cost would have allowed for it, sony would have kept BC in the ps4. They took it out of the ps3 for ps2 games, but kept ps1 games, and there is money to be made off selling those old games digitally. But, if they're having to spend more money to make a hardware solution, the cost may not make sense business wise. This is especially true since Sony wanted certain things for sure in the system, and had to meet a price point. On top of that, cell chips were only going to go up in price as the gen went on.

But more to the point, BC is one of those things that everyone says they want, but the statistics show that it isnt an often used feature, and it doesn't seem to affect sales of the system. Of all the certainties this gen has proved about bc, it's that bc doesnt sell systems. The rest is just speculation on how important it is, and I'd argue that's a subjective matter to the individual.

For me, I'll happily accept BC on a new system, and probably even use it. But it doesnt matter to me if it's not there

Can you imagine Bloodborne at 60fps though? that thought has been on my mind since i played it.

NarutoFox2403d ago (Edited 2403d ago )

You won't have to imagine it in a year. Reality is getting closer

esemce2403d ago

Yeah I want to play all the PS4 exclusives at 60fps locked. If they do that then It's a day one purchase as I have a large backlog of games many PS4 that I was holding off playing on a Pro . If not then I'll wait.

sushimama2404d ago

Of course it matters to be fully backwards compat with PS4. SONY have already announced that it will be. PS3, PS2 and PS1 not really that important, and maybe it is still happening, but I personally don't care one little bit about that. But PS4 bc is a must

RosweeSon2403d ago

Yeah as long as it’s PS4 BC that’s most of them covered as a fair old chunk is PS3 ports great ones at that so ps3 was pretty much covered and ps2 via classics hopefully they start doing more of those and they BC ps1 games would be a bonus but hacked a classic and got my Vita for them play em on the go haha

esemce2403d ago

Yes only the PS3 should give them problems with emulation, the PS4/5 are both x86 so should be less complicated to translate.

ArchangelMike2404d ago

Ofcourse it does. I'm not ditching my PS4 library just because the PS5 releases. I've still got a sizable backlog of quality AAA PS4 games that I'm still enjoying and working my way through. I'm not going to ditch it all just because a new console is out.

Backwards compatibility means I can kill two birds with one stone. I can get the new PS4 console as well as still play through my backlog. It's a win win.

Fist4achin2404d ago

Agreed. Plus with the rate of games being released, it is not hard to accumulate a backlog.

yomfweeee2404d ago

Why would you have to ditch it ever?

Profchaos2404d ago

Sometimes you just don't get around to finishing something life gets in the way other games like up and when you get back to play it the games aged terribly.

RedDevils2403d ago

I don't see current game will age terribly on ps5. Even some PS3 games look quite good.

UltraNova2403d ago

Why ditch your ps4 library? Buy the next console and keep your old one... simple as that.

My ps3 slim gets at least 5-10 hrs a month play time to this day.

isarai2404d ago

It's not a make or break feature personally, but it's certainly a big plus, a MASSIVE plus if the BC includes older systems as i have a large library of ps3/2/1 games still

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio12d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing12d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9212d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit12d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing12d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9212d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
