Death Stranding NPCs Can Die Based on Player Actions

Kojima says connections are very important in the game, even that some of the Death Stranding NPCs will even play a role in characters' deaths.

oh my god this is incredible

excaliburps2437d ago

This is a good thing, though, I can see myself trying to get everyone killed. LOL. XD

I'd like to know the extent, if Main characters can be "killed" off in a similar sense

Obviously this isn't anything new, so before someone jumps in and say that, it's already said. It is a neat feature to have in games though.

Kaedro2437d ago

Yeah incredible, I never played a game where an NPC could die because of my actions/s. Look I want this game to succeed but I see people getting all excited over things that would be laughable in other games.

Calling it now. This game is going to get somewhat inflated reviews due to being a new Kojima title. Despite the strong scores, reviews will note dull gameplay but amazing "experience". Six months down the line gamers, and publications alike will start asking "wasn't this game lacking"?

@dragonscale

Don't be a child.
Gears 5 has already been looked at as an incredibly strong entry into a loved series. Red Dead 2 was regarded as a weird Frankenstein of strong, and completely poor, design decisions.

@Dargonscale

Except Gears 5 was positively received and then thats the end. It was never heralded as "THE GREATEST GAME TO EEVAR BE CREATED" like Death Stranding is. Kojima fans at this point are a cult. We see one of the worst gameplay presentations at E3 and it doesnt put a single dent in their worship of the game. This game is being hyped like mad and it will not live up to it based on what we've seen.

I doubt it’ll be any main story NPC’s just guys like Geoff Keighley and any other random NPC’s you find in the game world.

IRetrouk2437d ago (Edited 2437d ago )

Pretty much

"One of the mission tied to this character is to deliver him medicine. This is a mission that can be repeatedly done since the character is in constant need of medicine and other items, and in exchange for these goods the character will discuss stories from the past. As the main campaign progresses and the world of Death Stranding expands, players will continue to move further and further away from this specific character. They may remember him and go back, thus improving the connection between the player and him, and others may forget to bring him medicine, which will eventually result in his death. Kojima closes this segment hoping that the significance of connections is revealed through this detail."

Cool feature though

Hideo Kojima put Low Roar in Death Stranding because gamers need more culture in their lives

It's important in life to maintain a broad palette when it comes to culture and the arts. Hideo Kojima agrees, as he continues to use video games like Death Stranding to introduce people to music and other elements they might not otherwise discover.

Cool, as long as no one is losing their job while already rich people make more money.

Notellin233d ago

Exactly this right here. Tools should never replace creators.

DarXyde233d ago

I feel that this is the position of every sensible person. However, we face two prominent issues:

1. There are nefarious actors (like Microsoft) who want to prohibit AI regulation. Some US states have some regulations in place, but it's very patchwork at best.

2. Without strict quality control and human review, AI is very likely to hallucinate in embarrassing ways.

TheEroica233d ago

Lol.... People are gonna be losing their jobs...

Travesty234d ago

I’m all in favor for faster developed games.. that’s been the Achilles heel this gen.. taking 5+ years for development. If it can help with building vast landscapes then let it be. A win win if it doesn’t endanger the jobs of current team. They can help in other areas.

Gamersunite880234d ago

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

H9234d ago

I don't doubt kojima that he has good intentions and would use AI without compromising the creative process, but you know for sure other development will say the same and have AI make the whole game for them.

Notellin233d ago (Edited 233d ago )

Yeah and whoever he works for or whatever AI models he chooses to use will train on his data and work to replace Kojima themselves.

I can't imagine any other creator in gaming that demands the salary size of Kojima.

rlow1234d ago

What I wonder about, let’s say five years from now. Will an individual be able to make a triple A title using A.I…If so what would be the need for others? I hate to say it but eventually people will loose their jobs. Because I hear no talk about the ethics of using A.I. among the big companies.
