Death Stranding's biggest problem is that it doesn't look fun

At the moment, Death Stranding's environmental obstacles and emphasis on cargo management seem more frustrating than fun.

That’s what I thought about the MGS series, until I played it. I’m sure Death Stranding will be just as fun to play

b163o12469d ago

Biggest problem is it doesn't look fun? So now we're basing games purely off of looks?

So what about the story, if we're basing off looks you gotta already know the story s/

Sitdown2469d ago

What do you mean now? Go look at threads concerning Crackdown 3, and pretty much any Xbox "exclusive" game that began to garner any kind of hype.

MagUk2469d ago

You still need game play no matter how good the story is. Far cry 5 was the blandest game I’ve played in a long time not even the story could help me stay and finish the game.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH2469d ago

Umm what else are you suppose to base Death Stranding off of? Gameplay is an extension of looks and since NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THE GAME IS ABOUT!!! what else are we supposed to base this game off of? I agree it looks boring to me.

eddvdm2469d ago

TBH, if I had a PS4 that game would be on my top 3 to get, and it's exactly because of the story (its proposal and teasers so far, at least).

I know most people don't care much about too subjetive and enigmatic - and sometimes touching too dense subjects - plots. But I'm exactly the opposite - I've already noted some cues at those teasers that could mean some deep stuff, even more coming from Kojima.

Let's not forget this is the first game he is in TOTAL control , with no parent company (f* Konami) to cut his wings. The single fact he worked with Guillermo del Toro on P.T. and now on Death Stranding it's enough to suggest the story/plot/meanings of everything in there can be seen as a flat 1 dimension tale or a VERY deep psychological world based around an apocalyptic scenery with all kinds of weird concepts - it really depends on how deep the player playing the game want to dive in.

If you never watched a Del Toro movie I suggest you to do it, it should give you a bit of what I'm talking here.

sampsonon2469d ago

@343_Guilty_Spark: i can tell you we haven't even seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this game.
Kojima has only really showed some of the mechanics.

Flewid6382469d ago

Well yeah....people have eyes. They form opinions based on what they see. If food LOOKS good, people express that. If a movie trailer LOOKS bad, people express that too.

Ever seen a girl who LOOKS good? Yeah...its something people say...because they have eyes.

InUrFoxHole2469d ago

It's not bashing. Based off of game play it looks boring to me. Doesn't mean the core mechanics aren't solid or the visuals aren't great

andibandit2468d ago

Then why did video kojima spend time on editing that 49 minute trailer, when he could just have given us a wall of text instead?.

Knushwood Butt2468d ago

Nintendo has the monopoly on fun, like it's exclusive.

Kojima has no hope.

I thought it looked boring in 2004 and was some sort of military simulator. So glad I started playing with MGS3, the supernatural elements... game was amazing

kneon2469d ago

I've never finished an MGS game as I get bored and just stop playing. And I've never had the urge to go back.

Exari2468d ago

the difference between MGS and DS is that MGS gameplay videos had always looked fun

porkChop2469d ago

To be fair, Kojima himself said the game isn't very accessible and maybe gets fun halfway through. A lot of what we've seen is mostly just walking in large and empty areas.

I'm buying the game and am going in with an open mind, but you can't blame people for being skeptical based on what we've seen so far.

Segata2469d ago

If anyone else designed a game like this they would be shit on and the game likely would have gotten middling at best reviews. But Kojima does it and people will suck his dick hard enough to suck a golf ball through a garden hose. It gets good only halfway through the dev admits. WTF?

Redemption-642469d ago

From what I read, Kojima didn't say the game, gets good only halfway through. It was a translation error, as I believe, it was done in Japanese and Danish then translated into English, but the headline drew in for clicks, so why change it. Based on what I recall, Kojima said, the game gets really fun as you play it and by halfway through, it will be really fun. Hell that's literally how most games build, start slow and get exciting, for interesting the more you play.

Atticus_finch2469d ago

@Pork @segata Except he didn't say that.
Segata you need help!
The game is almost out. You should wait. Kojima is no idiot and neither are his fans. The game might be weird but it shouldn't disappoint.

chiefJohn1172469d ago

@Sampsonon RDR2 is the most fleshed out open world game ever. Any one that designed a game like that would be praised

"Fans of RPGs or strategy games may find Kojima’s latest title up their alley, but people who would much rather pick up a controller and shoot things probably won’t find much enjoyment here."

Since I'm a RPG fan I would have to agree with the author. This is not a pick up the controller and just shoot things game.

TheOptimist2469d ago

Am an RPG fan., still doesn't seem interesting. Feels tedious if not anything else.

NarutoFox2469d ago

We don't know if it's tedious yet because the game is not out yet

343_Guilty_Spark2469d ago

@BurritoFox we have gameplay footage

NarutoFox2469d ago (Edited 2469d ago )

@343_Guilty_Sucks

I know you ain't talking. We shall see the reviews next month :)

TheOptimist2469d ago

If only modern reviewers held any credibility.

If you read modern reviews you should have realized that most game reviewers review games as if they are playing games for the first time.

MasterCornholio2469d ago

@Naruto and Guilty

You two need to deal with your issues over a PM instead of the comment section.

trouble_bubble2469d ago (Edited 2469d ago )

Guys say modern reviewers don’t have credibility. Who does? All forums do is complain about this game that game which game what game. No one wants advice from contrarians on suicide watch either.

For the record I’m not into this game but the headline caught my eye. lol at these pre-reviews. How do you not-fun something no one’s played yet

I love RPGs. The game looks dull as dirt to me. It looks like an ego project that will get praised no matter what anyway.

sampsonon2469d ago (Edited 2469d ago )

you and the Author played the game? wow! please, tell me why protagonist has weapons and doesn't use them?

thanks

Atticus_finch2469d ago

How about you tell us?! You seem to know alot more about the game than us.
Even the question is stupid, why would he have em and not use em.

Atticus_finch2469d ago

The author is wrong though. I'm glad kojima is keeping the game reveals to a minimum. The game simply isn't out yet and everything I've seen looks clever and interesting.

I don't even think we have seen the whole gameplay loop yet, what we have seen so far was character and inventory managment with a tiny slice of a mission, I personally can't wait to get stuck in but understand those that don't feel the same.

Hideo Kojima put Low Roar in Death Stranding because gamers need more culture in their lives

It's important in life to maintain a broad palette when it comes to culture and the arts. Hideo Kojima agrees, as he continues to use video games like Death Stranding to introduce people to music and other elements they might not otherwise discover.

Cool, as long as no one is losing their job while already rich people make more money.

Notellin258d ago

Exactly this right here. Tools should never replace creators.

DarXyde258d ago

I feel that this is the position of every sensible person. However, we face two prominent issues:

1. There are nefarious actors (like Microsoft) who want to prohibit AI regulation. Some US states have some regulations in place, but it's very patchwork at best.

2. Without strict quality control and human review, AI is very likely to hallucinate in embarrassing ways.

TheEroica257d ago

Lol.... People are gonna be losing their jobs...

Travesty258d ago

I’m all in favor for faster developed games.. that’s been the Achilles heel this gen.. taking 5+ years for development. If it can help with building vast landscapes then let it be. A win win if it doesn’t endanger the jobs of current team. They can help in other areas.

Gamersunite880258d ago

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

H9258d ago

I don't doubt kojima that he has good intentions and would use AI without compromising the creative process, but you know for sure other development will say the same and have AI make the whole game for them.

Notellin258d ago (Edited 258d ago )

Yeah and whoever he works for or whatever AI models he chooses to use will train on his data and work to replace Kojima themselves.

I can't imagine any other creator in gaming that demands the salary size of Kojima.

rlow1258d ago

What I wonder about, let’s say five years from now. Will an individual be able to make a triple A title using A.I…If so what would be the need for others? I hate to say it but eventually people will loose their jobs. Because I hear no talk about the ethics of using A.I. among the big companies.
