I agree with IO and Remedy but the other 3 that are mentioned I need a little more convincing

conanlifts2422d ago

Donotnod, remedy, IO and crytek would be my 4 choices.

lxeasy2421d ago

IO, Remedy, Moon Studios I think would be great additions.

conanlifts2421d ago (Edited 2421d ago )

Moon studios would be a natural fit. The reason I often say donotnod is that they could work on a new telltale style Minecraft game. Plus episodic releases would work well with gamepass. Crytek would give them cryengine and a few other tools to distribute to their studios. The question with crytek is whether they would be worth the money.

zacly2422d ago

hahaha playtonic (former Rare employees) would never happen. They hate microsoft ever since Rare was bought by them

Gunstar752422d ago

You just made that up. There is no ad blood there at all.

In fact the lead devs actually said that when MS came in they gave Rare more creative freedom than Nintendo. They still have a relationship with Rare also.

Gunstar752421d ago

6 disagrees. Facts are facts. Google an interview with the dev and see what they said for themselves

xX-oldboy-Xx2422d ago

Maybe get some mileage out of the ones you've just purchased - that should be number 1 on their list of things to do. Gotta learn to walk before you can run.

DaDrunkenJester2422d ago

Gotta give those studios time. Not all of them were working on multiple projects. Obsidian and InXile still haven't even launched their recent games so it will be a bit for them.

xX-oldboy-Xx2422d ago

I agree - I think it would be a good thing to have your current lineup of 1st party studios produce something before looking at other acquisitions.

Jin_Sakai2422d ago (Edited 2422d ago )

As Shuhei Yoshida said during TGS 2019

“I want publisher and studio to have a strong relationship”

The reason Sony purchased Insomniac Games. Another words they don’t go out purchasing studios for the hell of it like Microsoft.

That’s how you should go about acquiring developers.

King_Noctis2422d ago (Edited 2422d ago )

So let me get this straight, when MS has no games, people like you complained that they have no games. But when they try to acquire more studios to make more game, you say they purchase studios just for the hell of it.

So which one is it?

Imalwaysright2422d ago (Edited 2422d ago )

That's fine and dandy but Insomniac's last game was the most successful they ever made. They are and have been financially viable for many years and given their status in this industry they wouldn't have any trouble making a deal with a publisher to finance their next project(s). MS acquired studios that struggled financially and were in a constant threat of being shutdown so I couldn't disagree more with what you said. As I see it, MS way was more beneficial to this industry.

mkis0072422d ago

Noctis

Building a developer like The Initiative or The Coalition is what people were talking about or acquiring developers like undead labs and playground who have built an exclusive relationship with them. Add something new to or strengthen the industry, add more jobs and more game-makers.... The studios Sony acquires had all been PlayStation family before the acquisition.

King_Noctis2421d ago

"The studios Sony acquires had all been PlayStation family before the acquisition."

So now there is another condition to rightly acquire a studio? Before, you just acquire studios and make games and that would be the end of that, and now you have to either have good relationship with those studios or you need to make new studios (God know how long one would take) to "create more jobs"?

Jesus..I swear this place.

ghostrider322421d ago

Are you seriously trying to create conditions, to purchase studios? I see why most publishers don't listen to their fans. Console gamers DO NOT give good suggestions at all.

Jin_Sakai2421d ago

“ Are you seriously trying to create conditions, to purchase studios? I see why most publishers don't listen to their fans. Console gamers DO NOT give good suggestions at all.”

Sony purchase studios based on strong relationships which is one reason their exclusives are the some of the best in the industry. They have a strong collaboration between their worldwide studios. Microsoft do the opposite.

mkis0072420d ago (Edited 2420d ago )

Noctis

You are being purposefully obtuse or are just unable to grasp that this is not a condition, it is just a good practice. Its not a new condition either, this is the same thing everyone has always been saying.

They took the path easiest for them, lets see how it works out.

King_Noctis2422d ago

They are. Those devs are developing games, they aren’t there to just stand around and do nothing. Just like Insomniac which just joined Sony. You can’t expect them to show anything new immediately.

xX-oldboy-Xx2422d ago

No one said that - what was said is they should release games from the studios they've already acquired "then look at purchasing more".

King_Noctis2422d ago

But all the devs they have purchased do have games that are coming out.

-Ninja Theory: Bleeding Edge
-Obsidian: The Outer World
-Playgrounds Games: Fable reboot (rumoured)
-Double Fine: Psychonauts 2
-InXile: Wasteland 3

In addition, both Compulsion and Undead Lab are also working on their next unannounced games. So those studios are indeed releasing games.

Noskypeno2422d ago

Slightly offtopic, but it would be cool if MS gets a Spiderman like deal. Like have the initiative build a James Bond or Mission Impossible game exclusively for Microsoft. I could see a Mission Impossible game that plays out like an uncharted game with all the stunts and set pieces it's known for.

Godmars2902422d ago

And still the key issue remains unaddressed: MS has yet to show they truly know what to do with a studio or IP. That's been their rep since almost for as long as they've been in consoles and its not going to change until there is evidence of it changing.

King_Noctis2422d ago (Edited 2422d ago )

“MS has yet to show they truly know what to do with a studio or IP.”

So why are they known as the Forza/Halo/Gears company around this part?

Godmars2902422d ago (Edited 2422d ago )

@King_Noctis:
Forza is a racing game. Why that's a nothing sandwich shouldn't need to be said.

Halo existed before MS got into consoles and the studio that made it bought themselves out from the company - to go to Activision so I don't know what the f**k they were even thinking. Likewise Gears was 3rd party title MS bought to continue it if not run it into the ground.

All of those games are all about online multi. Show no creative diversity. By that I mean MS bought Ninja Theory, a studio known for SP, yet the first game they announce under MS is an online multi. Cannot see how MS defenders don't see the problem there.

King_Noctis2422d ago (Edited 2422d ago )

“Forza is a racing game.“

So Forza is not an IP that MS has maintained since the beginning and then even branched it into a more popular series in Forza Horizon just because it is a racing game?

“Halo existed before MS got into consoles and the studio that made it bought themselves out from the company - to go to Activision”

Halo Combat Evolved launched with Xbox because MS bought the studio. Do you say Spiderman does not belong to Sony because Sony didn’t own Insomniac? And how does Bungie’s deal with Activision work out?

“Likewise Gears was 3rd party title MS bought to continue it if not run it into the ground.”

Run into the ground? Lol what? Do we live in a parallel universe where Gears 5 doesn’t exist? Again, is Spiderman not a Sony game just because Insomniac was third party?

“MS bought Ninja Theory, a studio known for SP, yet the first game they announce under MS is an online multi.”

Bleeding Edge was in development since before NT was acquired by MS. NT also announced that they have a traditional single player game in the work as well. They also had just released Hellblade. You think a game can be developed in a year?

conanlifts2422d ago (Edited 2422d ago )

"MS has yet to show they truly know what to do with a studio or IP"

Did gears 5 not just release? What about halo 5? They certainly know what to do. This was never the problem. The issue was that they only had a few studios. This meant 1st party releases were rare. They are correcting the issue by creating, expanding and buying more studios.

As for ninja theory announcing a multi player game 1st. This was already in development and has been discussed by the developer. They have three teams making games. The hellblade team is a different team and are working on a game as well. This was discussed when they released hellblade, before ms bought them.

Godmars2902421d ago (Edited 2421d ago )

@King_Noctis:"
Show me the originality in a racing game, any racing game. Forza has been put on on nearly a yearly basis with slight changes and upgrades. it may as well be a sports game.

Bungie were working on Halo well before MS entered the picture, were going to make anything from an MMO to an RTS. Why I say NT and their game is an opposite example, was likely only notes and concept art, is because by all account they didn't have the money to actually develop it, since Hellblade was a $30 game.

And again, my original issue is that MS have creative problems. Have purposely constrained game development limited to push online. Using the 5th and older versions of games doesn't even begin to address that. If anything trying to use four online multiplayer titles as a defense only confirms it.

Doesn't Sony have their hands around Bond too? Or is that just movie related?

conanlifts2422d ago

EON productions own James Bond IP from memory. It is still a British owned product.

Wulfer2421d ago

Sony no longer has the Bond license they let it lapse!

xX-oldboy-Xx2421d ago

They had the distribution rights to Daniel Craig's Bond up until SPECTRE.

THC CELL2422d ago

What Ms has been doing for years and are good at its is called false hope. They did buy studios for this very reason and because they can. Sony and ms did not have to do any of this...
Ya don't see Nintendo as much as the fans are as bad as xbox fans if not worst, running out and buying sega or others

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio4d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing4d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster924d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit4d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing4d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster924d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

To be fair, there are also human made games that release and lack any fun at all either.

jznrpg7d ago

But all of the great games have been made by humans

jwillj2k47d ago

One is by choice, the other is a feature.

PRIMORDUS7d ago

Guild Wars 2 been playing for 14yrs, 1st beta. This is just one company I support, Arenanet and NCSoft, even though I torrent, there are a few PC companies I will buy from. "PlayStation’s Horizon MMO spin-off, Horizon Steel Frontiers." I feel this will be good, NCSoft is a good developer/publisher.

CrimsonWing696d ago

It’s a tool. Use it elevate things and get it done faster. I’m sorry but not every game made by humans is good. If this can help things, then I fully embrace it.
