Sony dominated the conversation at Gamescom this year thanks its purchase of Insomniac Games, Death Stranding, Erica, and more.

The article actually makes some good points. If we recall back to just over a week ago there was some anticipation at the Inside Xbox Live show and jokey comments online that Sony would again be sidelined. As it happened there were no megatons, it was awkwardly presented and then the deliberately timed news of the Insomniac purchase stole the whole day and week and Sony wasn't even on a stage!

VenomUK2470d ago (Edited 2470d ago )

Don't get me wrong, MS did have some cool news like the new additions to game pass including Age of Empires, Devil May Cry 5 and Kingdom Come Deliverance and they showed off the Destiny 2 and Metro dlc. However, the Insomniac news dominated last week and it also created a sense of anticipation for the PS5 because the Sony PR statement indirectly alluded to a new Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank game.

UltraNova2470d ago

In all honesty Gamescom was a borefest. The only exciting piece of news was Sony buying Insomniac. Think about it, the most exciting thing about a gaming conference wasn't about games but of a business move...this is what we get when there are so many conferences each year.

KickSpinFilter2470d ago (Edited 2470d ago )

But even during E3 Sony stole MS thunder by doing a little article with Wired magazine about PS5. And a video of Death Stranding a week before. Other than Cyberpunk 2077 Reeves surprise (a multi-platform game) did MS really have any big Bomb Drop....Nope not really.

Max_Eckhardt2470d ago

I think they make controllers... lots and lots of controllers.

darthv722470d ago

Have you seen all the PS4 controllers lately...? Some are pretty impressive.

pinkcrocodile752470d ago

I bought my fella the new 500 million ps4 controller as an early birthday present and it's gorgeous. That said it's not as good as the elite.

As for who the media liked more, I have more interest in my last sh!t. Money talks, bullshit walks.

Till it's in my hands I don't care.

RizBiz2470d ago

In their defence, the accessibility controller is pretty neat.

Broomfondle2469d ago

And Avatars. Don't forget the cool Avatars.

What thunder though is the question. Game pass, Power of DA cloud, digital only Xbox one, 50-60 million behind ps4, only talking this whole gem without showing much? Or another gears game after which will come another forza and halo

Stop this nonsense. Ms needs to step up and show up before there is even talk of competition. Even last Gen they launched early knowing they couldn't compete with ps3 and clearly Xbox 360 wasn't ready to be launched. Even than early start meant ps3 outsold the Xbox360

Juusterey2472d ago

nobody had thunder at gamescom

scoot_n_loot2470d ago

This was my thought as well. MS' show was weak at best. Sony didn't show up at E3 so it's no surprise they had more to talk about.

Jon_Targaryen2470d ago

Be careful, fanboys dont take likely to your obvious correct statement.

neutralgamer19922469d ago

Maybe ms should have skipped too instead of showing only CGI like it's 2005

Without attending E3 Sony made a bigger impact and that's all there is to it

Automatic792472d ago

What Thunder Gamescom was great.

Atom6662471d ago

Apparently Geoff Keighley holograms set the internet ablaze.

I'm not being snarky; that's literally a line from the article.

The biggest news story was the Insomniac deal, which dwarfs game discussions. That's true of both Death Stranding and Gears 5, though.

I thought Gamescom had plenty of good announcements. Wish we would have gotten a Nintendo direct in there and maybe some more 2020 talk, but that'll probably wait until next year.

This article is just aimed at getting the fanboys all riled up.

senorfartcushion2470d ago

This entire site is aimed at getting ms fanboys riled up.

Automatic792470d ago

Well said. Fanboys love click bait.

Silly gameAr2470d ago

There's been plenty of clickbait all week. People went after Death Stranding for those hits RELENTLESSLY. The best thing to do, if it bothers you so much, is to ignore the clickbait bullshit. It makes the site so much better when you actually look for news instead of trash opinion pieces and bs to get fanboys riled up.

DaDrunkenJester2470d ago (Edited 2470d ago )

Did you hear how the audience cheered when Norman started pissing? I was so confused why anyone was cheering for that gameplay reveal... it was terrible. And Geoff is sort of a joke/punching bag, I doubt that hologram "set the internet ablaze".

This is how Sony did it

That's all it took to rain on their competitor's parade.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

dveio33d ago

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing33d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9233d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit33d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing33d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9233d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
