I thought they just said no more Xbox exclusives on other platforms? Are they going to remove all Xbox exclusives from Gamepass before putting it in other platforms?

- No more Xbox exclusives to be released on other consoles.

- All Xbox exclusives to be launched on Gamepass.

- We would like to see Gamepass on all platforms.

What wrongs with these people? Xbox does nothing but 180s.

porkChop2464d ago

They didn't say they wouldn't release games on other platforms. They said they didn't currently have plans. In the future if they have another small game like Cuphead or Ori, it could still go to other platforms.

Rude-ro2464d ago

Well, it’s not like Microsoft has to pull many exclusives.

Microsoft wants a monthly fee more than anything else.
They can care less about competition as long as the competition is not trying to change the face of computing.
That was their concern with Sony and the rise of Apple and google at the time...

As long as Sony plays nice, then Microsoft will focus on what they want most.. faces staring at screens for a monthly fee while they collect their marketing information from us.

TheGamez1002464d ago (Edited 2464d ago )

Not sure why ppl will still want to get an xbox lol. Basically all of its exclusives including upcoming are on pc and even other consoles now like the switch. Only reason I can think of is that they just despise playstation because of their inner fanboyism. Mcsft is definitely prepping for a consoleless future.

spicelicka2464d ago (Edited 2464d ago )

If you want an honest answer I'll give it to you.

Halo and Gears are two of the best multiplayer franchises out there for many fans. If I'm going to pay for Xbox live to play them, then I'm going to buy all other multiplayer games like BF/COD/whatever on Xbox too. Gamepass is also the greatest subscription service right now, I've been able to enjoy so many games on there that I would've had to pay $60 for if I only had a PS4.

Switch has no first party Xbox exclusives, it has Cuphead which is a third party game made by an Indie. Why the hell would I not get an Xbox in HOPES of getting Halo/Gears/Forza on other consoles? When they are confirmed to come to others I'll decide, but until then I still want an Xbox. It has nothing to do with despising Playstation, I own a PS4, which I keep for its own single player exclusives. Is Halo on PS yet? Is Gears on PS yet? You want people to switch over to PS for the possibility of those games coming there who knows when, what if that's 10 years in the future??

Lastly, Xbox exclusives on PC do not devalue the Xbox at all, aside from that small fraction of people who were deciding between an Xbox and PC. You can't assume everyone magically has a capable PC. Most console gamers have a console for a reason, they also wouldn't pay $500 for a capable PC when they can buy an XB1 for like $200 without having to worry about settings and optimization etc.

I would be happy to hear a response but I know I'll get a flood of blind fanboy disagrees.

yomfweeee2464d ago

Yes, putting a console exclusive on PC could do nothing other than devalue the console.

So, if you can get your Microsoft exclusives on PC... then PS4 + PC is the smart decision. Exclusives drive system sales more than anything. That is why Microsoft always ends in third. That is why Nintendo can succeed even with the least powerful system.

spicelicka2464d ago (Edited 2464d ago )

@yomfweeee

You missed the part where PCs are double the cost of an Xbox. Yes you can "build" a cheaper PC, but I guarantee you wouldn't be able to build one for $150-$200, you can easily find an XB1 for that price. You also missed the part about console players wanting to play on consoles. PS4+PC is no smarter than PS4+XBOX or PS4+Switch or PC+Switch or Xbox+Switch, all depends on the types of games you want to play. For $400, which is generally the price of lower end PCs I can find you an Xbox AND a PS4.

"Putting a console exclusive on PC could do nothing other than devalue the console." There is no statistic to prove that, it's only a fanboy argument so the owners of rival consoles can claim their system has "true" exclusives. Xbox sales were shit before they started putting exclusives on PC, because of their own stupidity. They have actually increased sales since they expanded to PC, by your logic they should've died out by now.

"Exclusives drive system sales more than anything. That is why Microsoft always ends in third. That is why Nintendo can succeed even with the least powerful system."

This I will agree with, but MS is third from their LACK of first party games in general, not because they brought their exclusives to PC, which is not a console. I don't think you understand console mentality, people who are deciding between consoles to purchase choose between 3 systems, Xbox, PS4, and Switch, and will look at the collection of games they can play on each. People who throw PC's into that mix make up a very small percentage, and their decision to choose PC over Xbox would not hinder Xbox sales by millions. No parent goes into a store to buy their kid a console and thinks why not buy my kid a gaming PC.

You go where your friends are. Just becase Halo and Gears are awesome (both are up there with CS and Quake for me as two of my all time favourite MP FPS games) doesn't mean I'm going to buy every MP game on Xbox. None of my friends play on Xbox so it would make no sense for me to go buy other mp games for it.

Xbox exclusives coming to PC does devalue Xbox. Maybe not for those who can't afford a high end PC but for those of us who can, there is very little reason to buy one. I have a good rig, as of now, there is no reason for me to own an Xbox outside of maybe scratching that Halo itch but I'll be able to do even that on PC shortly. It's the same with the nexbox, what will it offer that my PC can't already do? Most of my gaming friends feel the same way, if it wasn't for game pass, we'd probably either own Xboxs now or would buy one when something tickles our fancy, how is that not devaluing the Xbox?

spicelicka2464d ago

@tekiz That's a fair enough point IF you already have a gaming PC. Do you really know the population of people who have decent gaming PCs and are looking to buy a console? Do you know if these people would have bought an Xbox anyway if the exclusives didn't come on PC? How can you quantify the impact on sales from such a tiny group of gamers.

There are thousands of PC gamers who never cared for an Xbox, and Halo/Gears coming on PC is just a plus for them, not news that would forego their decision to buy an Xbox. There are also thousands of Xbox gamers who never cared about buying a PC, and exclusives going to PC doesn't affect their enjoyment of those games in any way either.

I have looked at PS Now and it has gotten a lot of content but it doesn't compete with getting new exclusives day 1, and getting such recent AAA games like DMC5, Shadow of mordor, Tomb raider, Metro Exodus, Monster Hunter etc.

spicelicka2464d ago

@PapaBop

I have definitely considered that, but I would argue that losing out customers like yourself can be offset by new customers gained. Do you know the shitstorm Halo created when MCC was announced for PC back in March? It was at the top of google searches, and the populations of players on Xbox exploded just because of the buzz it created. People I know who had their Xbox collecting dust and didn't even play Halo were all of a sudden interested because they kept hearing about it. More sales on PC = more sales on Xbox due to more exposure.

Considering the Xbox's last position in the industry and the low number sales its exclusives have made, simply because of the low install base is a huge detriment. Gears 5 on Xbox has more hype now as a side affect to it being exposed to the PC community, I've noticed that myself in the forums. You realize MS is still getting money from sales on PC, which they can re-invest in their studios/franchises and expand the Xbox brand.

You have consider that MS isn't totally unaware of the points we're all making here and clearly has a strategy, which is why they have purchased all those studios. Whatever happens in the future, RIGHT NOW there's very little impact on reasons to own an Xbox simply because its games are on PC.

"I own a PS4, which I keep for its own single player exclusives."
And some awesome MP also... Right?
UC, TLOU , KZ.. Yeh KZ, still one of the best mp's around.....
Otherwise your talking multi platform, and dont assume most average (Not Magical) cant play most games..... Forget X, theres many a multi-million PC's out there that can do as good a job as an OG One......
Also no need for paying to play online..... Not yet... Thats where Games Pass comes in.
Theres more money to be made from an enormous PC install Base (Id guess, more PC's can run these games more than how many searches have been made on RROD)... Yes.. hardly anyone has a capable PC.

Yes.. I have a PS4 for exclusives, Multiplatform games, VR.....

And a upgraded Mac (yes, a cMP, the last true mac) that boots into Windows 10 to play crysis !!! Ranks High on Steams VR capability .... Sure.. not 4k , 120fps.... But most games run better than a OG Xbox one....
Shall I remind you its 10 year old machine ? ..... Hmmmm

If you think about everything in terms of console war dynamics then naturally you would come up empty. Personally Xbox is my preferred console gaming platform. It's really that simple. If I'm in front of my TV I'm playing my xbox, if I'm in front of my monitor I'm playing PC. Wouldn't have it any other way.

thexmanone2464d ago

They don`t play on my PC, I have a mac

sushimama2464d ago

As much fun as this would be in the 'console war' sense, there is no way Sony is going to allow GamePass on their platform. They would lose money in many ways I believe. Imagine, instead of buying Devil May Cry 5 at launch or on sale down the line, you waited for it to be on GamePass and bought a cheap 1 month subscription, just to play and finish that game and get the Platinum Trophy. Sony would be losing money. Even if they get a share of the 'gamepass' profits, I don't think it would be enough. But I honestly don't know. I'm just speculating here. It's interesting though

yomfweeee2464d ago

I disagree. Sony wouldn't do it without getting a slice,

Your arguments about people not buying any games anymore... well that hasn't harmed Xbox game sales as far as anyone knows. You generally don't know what games will hit Gamepass. DMC5 was a surprise. Those first 6 months is going to be a lot of sales.

Gamepass on PS5 would destroy Microsoft console sales. Microsoft would only do this if they didn't care about selling consoles. It really wouldn't make any sense to buy an Xbox if all their games were coming to PS5.

monkey6022464d ago

I'd say it has definitely hurt games sales on the Xbox. There's no way it couldn't.

I for one haven't bought an Xbox one game in nearly 2 years. I've been on and off Game Pass over that time but I wonder how developers are being compensated for this.
There's even games I had planned to buy on the PS4 that I ended up playing through Xbox Game pass instead

yomfweeee2464d ago

I shouldn't have worded that part like I did. They will sell less units obviously, but these companies get paid by Microsoft still. They wouldn't do allow it if it was going to hurt them in the long run.

rainslacker2463d ago

Sony wouldn't allow many games to be on the PS4 version of game pass, because Sony also gets licensing money for those games to be on PS4 through the publisher, and it's questionable if the publishers would even allow it if Sony does as well. Having those games on Game Pass on the PS4 means that the potential for sales of the PS4 version are going to be hindered, and Sony isn't going to pay them to have the game on Game Pass.

Dragonscale2464d ago (Edited 2464d ago )

@sushimama, agreed . Its just ms way of getting their fingers in other peoples pies. Can't see Sony allowing a direct competitor against ps now tbh.The last thing PlayStation needs is xbox gamepass fgs.

Sciurus_vulgaris2464d ago

I think all platforms means console (xbox), pc and mobile.

Take-Two CEO Once Again Side Steps Grand Theft Auto 6 Price Point

Strauss Zelnick says price of GTA 6 is being carefully considered and that Rockstar is focused on "making the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth."

Kuma23d ago

If GTA 6 abandons everything that made GTA 5 great, it will crash and burn right out of the gate. GTA 5 was funny and not at all PC. My worry is that they will cave to the PC crowd and ruin the vibes.

Eonjay22d ago

They got freaking BBLs twerking on the top of trucks for the gram, the freaking Flordia joker, and dude running down the stree in their undies and you are worried about it being 'too PC'? The internet has runied gamers. It doesn't matter how non-PC they make the game, you will all listen to the grifters telling you not to believe your lying eyes lol.

gigoran822d ago

"Rockstar Games’ co-founder and former VP of Development Jamie King said he envisions GTA 6 as a game that’s “maybe not quite as edgy or quite as funny” as its satirical predecessors."

oh yeah, totally internet grifters spreading rumors...

blacktiger22d ago

That's part of the plan, they destroyed you but they need to destroy the shareholders? Only 1 shre holder is the true elite that don't care

1nsomniac23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

Meh.., if it’s above £55 I ain’t buying it.

Rockstar are genuinely not half the company they used to be. I was a die hard GTA fan I’ve purchased every game and expansion and spin off day 1.

My opinion of GTA6 is that I can take it or leave it. Not bothered. They burnt too many bridges.

DaReapa22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

So they're actually leaving the door open for an L.A. Noire sequel? Nice!

VaNdAl22d ago (Edited 22d ago )

He should just come out and say it already it's getting stupid it's going to be a 100 bucks $200 for the special edition🤡🤡; 29315;🤣♿

Storm2322d ago

I won't be getting this game until I can get it for $70. SHoot, I could wait for it to be even lower. I don't need the game that badly as my backlog is still huge and I am enjoying playing other things.

Xbox boss: Memory crisis could impact next-gen hardware pricing

Xbox boss Asha Sharma has discussed how component shortages will impact the company's plans for Project Helix.

Eonjay24d ago

When does this end? Its killing everyone. Consoles and PC. And for what? AI? The benefits of AI are completely outweighed by the negatives. And the government should have never allowed one company to buy up all the RAM.

Lexreborn225d ago

This kind of proves this is an after thought product, most products like this are in r&d 5 years before they start mass producing. So they typically have the cost of components and things worked out long before assembly starts.

This is an assumption still, but I wouldn’t be surprised if project helix is similar to Scalebound, perfect dark and sod3. They had an idea but no actual execution other than concept stage. Being impacted by the ram shortage likely would also put this device 3-4 years out.

I’m not even sure MS has that endurance with Xbox yet

Fishy Fingers24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

I mean.... what?

We're at a point that Samsung wont even provide their own phone department ram because they can sell it at higher prices to 3rd parties (AI). Its more profitable to sell the ram than make their own devices with it.

You think because R&D starts 5 years ago the 3rd party component manufacturers will honour that price? They'll sell it to whomever is paying the most today, not some gentlemens agreement they made years ago. AI farms will buy more volume at higher prices than any console manufacturer will. It'll be the same for Playstation.

Lexreborn224d ago

Contractual agreements are not the same as “gentlemen” agreements. If you think that they work with their distributors a month before production then their entire business model is trash. They work with companies like nvidia constantly for building the graphics cards they need. They work with companies that build motherboards years in advance. This is what proper business planning does.

They are not buying components on a whim like a consumer. So again, considering the ram isn’t a singular module and is integrated into the motherboard I highly doubt they wouldn’t have a final schematic that they are supposed to be building around.

If they are delaying production another 3 years then it’s obvious again this is an after though project and is just trying to be responsive to their bad execution they had the last 14 years.

It also isn’t far fetched to use their failure to produce first party titles the last 7 years including the highly anticipated games I mentioned all being cancelled. That they would continue to you know… lie

Sitdown24d ago

You don't really know how this works huh?

Profchaos24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

Helix is going to be stupidly expensive

Instead of leaning into smarter upscaling techniques they're brute forcing hardware that will cost them dearly and it remains to be seen if it's genuinely going to provide a meaningful differential

I know in the oc.doace people like to brag about not using frame gen or dlss to get to high on a game but for the majority of players they happily use those technologies without a second thought

That's going to be ps6 vs Helix

Eonjay24d ago

Yeah with FSR 5 they should be able to offer a much cheaper version of Helix.

Eonjay24d ago

While this does seem to be the case, I am encouraged by the statement from Microsoft about wanting to provide affordable options. If this means a Series S style Helix, at least there will be something affordable being offered.

XBManiac24d ago

Series S is what has killed Xbox Series so... Will they dare?

blacktiger24d ago

It's called systematic inflationary. Yes we get it Microsoft, keep raising in the name ofall kinds of stuffs

pwnmaster300024d ago

Honestly if there was thing I learned from this generation is that new consoles arnt day one anymore.
I can wait 1-3 years.

DarXyde24d ago

Another important lesson from this generation: while Nintendo showed us that prices don't necessarily need to ever drop, we've now learned that waiting 1-3 years does carry some risk that prices increase. This generation is just bizarre in all the wrong ways.

LucasRuinedChildhood24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

The factors are largely external. Covid and Russia-Ukraine war causing inflation led to the first price increase in 2022.

Then we get Trump's tariffs increasing hardware prices, AI boom causing a RAM crisis, war on Iran causing a worldwide fuel crisis which impacts the cost of everything.

Gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The last few years have been a shitshow and lot of it was definitely avoidable.

DarXyde24d ago

LucasRuinedChildhood,

For sure. No disagreement on the external factors doing a lot of this. Where I have to gently push back however is on two fronts:

1. The pandemic definitely caused some issues: asynchronous development was a big issue and really complicated timelines and affected game quality. At the same time, when it comes to price hikes, it's really difficult to know what was genuine necessity and what was taking consumers for a ride. The pandemic brought about "stag-flation" which was increasing prices and stagnant wages, which was a problem caused by supply chain constraints. There was also "Greed-flation", where companies that were slightly affected or had no issues took advantage of the situation and squeezed everyone citing supply chain issues when there were none.

2. It's definitely true that the tariffs, AI boom, and RAM crisis were all things enabled by tech broligarchs throwing money at this caricature of a world leader, one of them being Satya Nadella. I don't think Sony and Nintendo have contributed much to this problem if at all, but Microsoft's Nadella I feel was instrumental in causing every one of those issues. Microsoft as a company contributed to both candidates (though they gave Harris 4x as much if I recall), but Nadella was all in on letting AI run wild. He paid for unregulated AI, and got a war that's not a war (even though Trump called it that at least five times on television) that screwed up helium access. So for me, I feel that one of the players in the gaming industry is a key architect of these issues, and for that reason I struggle a bit to think of it as "external".
