Google Stadia vs. Microsoft xCloud: Why Game Streaming Won’t Work Just Yet

Game companies have touted game streaming as the next big thing when it comes to gaming, but it probably won’t be -- at least in the next few years. Here’s why.

It will work extremely well in some regions and you dont have to wrry about having the newest hardware b ecause you will be playing on incredible hardware

"It will work extremely well in some regions and you dont have to wrry about having the newest hardware b ecause you will be playing on incredible hardware"

That's some sales pitch...

Anyways I'd rather play on incredible hardware I own instead of renting it from google.

Zeroyosh2459d ago

why you think it's renting? you own the game when you buy it, renting implies that you have to keep paying for it. Stadia base is free...sure it's not coming out at the same time as the pro 4k 60fps 10$ monthly thing, but base will be available for everyone, 1080p 60fps. all you do is buy the game, play it on base free.

I would invest in xcloud, MS will have a physical solution as well, so a system where you don't lose your games if the service ends or internet goes down.

SamPao2459d ago

the only one working right now ^^

badz1492459d ago

apparently, PS Now doesn't exist and Sony is charging its subscribers for NOTHING!

PhoenixUp2459d ago

There’s various regions where cloud streaming will not be practical

Lon3wolf2459d ago

Indeed but it will be viable to more than they say in the article:

"According to a 2017 Akamai study, only a few countries offer average internet speeds Google requires for Stadia to run properly: 20Mb/s and above. Only the gamers living in these countries (South Korea, Norway, Hong Kong, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Singapore, Japan, and Denmark) will be given the chance to enjoy game streaming services."

I recently got the platinum trophy for God of war (PS3) , playing on psnow. Doing the ONLY remaining trophy from 2012. The challenges of the gods, without any streaming problem. I think its very possible the streaming Will succed the Next generation. Im from Portugal.

Multiplayer + latency = unplayable

Benficaman2458d ago

Maybe. I never tried multiplayer on psnow.

DJStotty2458d ago

No maybe about it, all streaming services for MP will be unplayable.

Think COD with latency now, and that is locally, now add a few more ms or secs and you have your answer.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing15d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit15d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing15d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9215d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
