Phil Spencer has a very different view of what success for Microsoft looks like.

Microsoft wants to be a streaming service, and be friendly with Sony since they kicked butt so hard that it irreversible damage to their pride?

Spurg2500d ago

"Microsoft wants to be a streaming service"
They want to give the option of streaming. The Xbox will be a mixture of both, not like stadia which is exclusively made for streaming. Stop trying to spin things a starting fuss out of nothing, it has been clearly stated by the team and Phil that they are not trying to replace the console.

sushimama2500d ago

LOL

" it has been clearly stated by the team and Phil that they are not trying to replace the console."

I mean they have clearly stated a lot of things in the past. Like how Xbox One will always come with a Kinect and how Kinect will always be a part of Xbox One LMAO

https://www.gameinformer.co...

Things change. And Xbox change their minds all the damned time. You can't trust Xbox and you can't trust Phil Spencer. Cancelled games and studios. "Crackdown 3 is coming along nicely" lol. There is just so much material. The majority of gamers are going to steer clear of Xbox next gen. Only the faithful will march forward... unrelenting, as always.

aconnellan2500d ago (Edited 2500d ago )

@sushimama

“Xbox One will always come with a Kinect and how Kinect will always be a part of Xbox One ”

What do you want from them? All of their fans and fans of their competition told them it was a bad idea and they wanted rid of it, so they removed it because of that feedback.

It was dumb to include it initially, but it would be even more dumb if they refused to remove it just because at one point they said it would always be bundled

Godmars2902500d ago (Edited 2500d ago )

They want to be a middleman who makes a profit from all sides.

And you wont be able to trust Spencer until games for the next Xbox are out.

bouzebbal2499d ago

LOL another U turn...
It's not what you were doing or saying the 2-3 first years last gen..

skiggy342499d ago

LOL WTF??? Who are the 46 dumb sh1ts that downvoted your comment???

rainslacker2499d ago (Edited 2499d ago )

I think it would benefit a lot of people to go look up where Satya wants to take MS in general. They want everything to be cloud based. Even your OS. MS makes most of it's money off commercial and enterprise software, not the OS, and not Xbox. If they can lock people into using a Streamed OS regardless of device, then they've pretty much gained the potential to reach every single person in the world with an internet connection.

That is also the direction that Xbox is going, and while I know a lot of people think that Spencer is making all these awesome changes and coming up with them all by his self, the truth is, that all of this is reflective of the general direction that MS is going with a bulk of their company.

MS will continue to give the option for the foreseeable future, that isn't their end goal, and I think come next gen, a lot of that is going to become more apparent.

I'll watch the disagrees roll in, because I know not a single Xbox fan boy around here will bother to learn a single thing that MS is doing outside Xbox. They don't even seem to realize that Azure is not part of Xbox given the recent articles about how Sony is partnering with MS. It's sad that people won't learn more about the things they fight over.

Sony doesn't have the infrastructure to build a dedicated cloud service like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon. Shaking hands with Sony is a gesture of goodwill from Microsoft as it keeps Sony in the game for the future which in the long run(after next-gen) will start to gear towards streaming the only format.
A lot of gamers out there will refuse to opt for streaming because of their comfort zone but without a doubt, they will find a way to convenience those gamers.

IRetrouk2500d ago

Sony has the only working streaming service right now, since last gen no less, what are you on about lol, its ms and google playing catch up at the minute, if Sony needs more servers they can rent or buy more, they already bought two streaming companies, why couldn't they buy more?
Shaking hands with ms keeps Sony in the game? Are you serious?? Sony is the one leading this gen, and the ps systems have always beat the ms ones🤣👏👏 ;
The memorandum was to TALK about a JOINT venture, not one way as you make out.
Streaming will never be the main format for gamers, the input lag alone sees to that, dedicated hardware will always beat streaming.

Jin_Sakai2500d ago

Core gamers could give a crap about cloud gaming. That seems to be your only defense at this point.

If you want to stream games with added lag and video compression while having a reliance on internet and data caps be my guest.

Profchaos2500d ago

Ummm psnow has been up and running for years

Magic_Spatula2500d ago

Uhhh.... Sony acquired Gaikai back in 2012 (y'know, a company that has the infrastructure for game streaming), and they're using their infrastructure for PSNow. So tell me again how Sony doesn't have the infrastructure again?

SyntheticForm2500d ago

Lol @ all the disagrees. Sony DOESN'T have that kind of capital; the kind that can finance the massive infrastructure that Microsoft has - they simply don't. It's nothing against Sony; it's just the truth.

Microsoft's gaming division respect PlayStation, and while that doesn't solve Microsoft's problem of lacking IPs, it at least lets us know that they're aware of their shortcomings. Phil Spencer knows that Microsoft needs a studio like Naughty Dog in their stable; the guy isn't stupid, but he works within the constraints of Microsoft corp, and yes, he's a PR guy.

We can only hope that Microsoft is going to try to compete with Sony and nurture their studios. Sony does this so well, and Microsoft needs to do it too.

Dimsum2500d ago

Lmfao. Nobody is willing to see that Sony in Fact has nothing like Microsofts infrastructure to support something like xCloud. Sony owning Gaikai is nothing similar what Microsoft has at all and does not even come close to Microsoft 2nd biggest billion dollar Cloud infrastructure in the world. Gaikai is build to maintain 1 streaming service dedicated to console which is always required, why it's so shitty, it can't handle and do what xCloud does.. Be able to stream everywhere u are in freedom. How can nobody asks themselves and be so blind why Sony asked Microsoft to be on their infrastructure? Sony is going to eventually do what Microsoft is doing with xCloud and with Gaikai they simply cannot do any of that. Sony joining Microsoft is a response to Stadia.. Again because Sony lacked that cloud infrastructure. I can keep going and keep telling that Gaikai is not build for such cloud service. Be blind and defend but Spurg is absolutely right!

rainslacker2500d ago (Edited 2500d ago )

And yet, Sony has a dedicated game streaming service in PSNow.

Go figure.

Guess you're trying to compare a game streaming service to the whole of Cloud? I guess that's fair for reasons I can't comprehend.

Sony isn't trying to be a cloud service provider, they are running a cloud game streaming service. They have been doing that before MS and Google decided to slap such a service up on their other cloud services.

Consider your logic here.

Sony loses because they don't have a major cloud service....even though they aren't trying to make one. Hence, MS wins, because MS has a big cloud service which will eventually have a service on it which will compete with Sony's service, hence, MS wins.

No one is saying Sony can make a huge cloud service in general. Sony isn't even saying they want to. Why compare a service, to a means to provide a service?

UltraNova2500d ago

You are so brainwashed its not even funny...

THC CELL2500d ago

Sony owns on live n Gaikai what part of that not a infrastructure the rest are servers
Go read more about it. Too many uneducated clowns on this site. I no I'm not a bright spark but come on
Phil is just good at twisting stuff around he let's the fans hear what best and dose not deliver.

badz1492499d ago

The delusions of xbox fanboys here is unreal, much like the delusions shown by MS during the xbone reveal which ultimately lost them this gen. Xcloud has proven nothing yet Sony with the PSNow already up and running making money is the one in trouble?? LOL

SoonDeadByOldAge2499d ago

Magic-spats: A streaming service with a top resolution of 720p, big whoop 🙌

Kribwalker2499d ago

yes sony has streaming infrastructure in place, but it’s far inferior to what Ms is offering (it streams in 720p). If they wanted a legitimate dog in this streaming fight to compete with Stadia and Xcloud, they would have to either invest heavily in their existing service or use someone else’s. The investment was so large it made sense to use someone’s

IRetrouk2499d ago (Edited 2499d ago )

Ms is offering nothing at the moment or stadia, untill xcloud or stadia is actually out ofcourse, regardless of what sony was streaming at, they still got the product out first, how is it that sony is competing with xcloud and stadia if those products are yet to hit market? And how is ms version far superior? Have you read the early tests? It still has input lag and hitches, just like now, and even phill himself said it's not ready, he even laughed at the thought of releasing it now, hows that far superior?? You got that the wrong way around, xcloud and stadia are competing with sony, and ofcourse they would need more servers for psnow, I dont see how renting server space is such a big deal, they have rented off others too, never been made a big deal out of it till now lol.

IRetrouk2499d ago

And so far all xcloud demos have ran at 720p, tethered no less, and still ran with hiccups, I wouldn't be so quick to bum up another ms service that's yet to prove anything, let alone call it superior, it's not even out yet.

Kribwalker2499d ago

@Iretrouk

If the Azure cloud wasn’t a superior cloud streaming service to what Sony currently has, there wouldn’t be a discussion about sony wanting to improve their service by using Azure Cloud. Sony would just further invest in their own tech

IRetrouk2499d ago (Edited 2499d ago )

It's a bunch of server farms krib, sony can rent off ms azure or anybody else and still use their own streaming tech, infact from what's been said, that's exactly what's happening.
Where has ms or sony said that sony would be using ms cloud tech? Wasnt it more about sony using ms azure servers, and ms getting help with silicon and ai, along with other things, including working on cloud solutions together? The memorandum went two ways remember?
Having a lot of data centres does not make microsofts, as yet unreleased streaming service, superior, far from it, and the early previews certainly dont show it.

Both companies need each other one way or another for specific things

Army_of_Darkness2499d ago

No, not at all... Sony was doing great before and after ms came into the console gaming market.

Your getting downvoted for a reason like dang it’s crazy how he described you exact type of people then you show up and expose yourself lol

gravedigger2499d ago

Yeah Phil. Surely you wouldn't scream out loud through media if Xbone sold the most. Why lying to yourself?

Christopher2499d ago

That's some lovely spin going on there.

I think right now both realize it's somewhat like IP companies. Having more than two options in a region hurts their bottom lines and it's easier to keep it with just two competitors rather than have someone else come in and mess things up. And Google is a big company with potential to mess things up in heavy market areas (large population cities in the U.S. where the majority of their digital sales are made).

'Spencer was also quick to point out that, thanks to them owning Mahjong and, in turn, Minecraft, Microsoft are one of PlayStation’s biggest third party publishers.' MS owns Mahjong?!

IRetrouk2500d ago

Yeah, they paid something like 2.5 billion for them, was big news when it happened

DaDrunkenJester2500d ago

Mojang created Minecraft Mahjong is something co.pletely different.

IRetrouk2500d ago

Didnt even notice🤣, thanks for the heads up

DaDrunkenJester2500d ago

They are so similar I don't blame you for fixing them together haha

SamPao2500d ago

Hahaha seriously doubt ms owns mahjong :DD

DaDrunkenJester2500d ago

Not sure why you're getting downvotes haha MS own Mojang, not Mahjong. They do publish their own type of mahjong for windows but that is it.

Owning Mahjong would be like saying you own poker or something.

Wasnt minecraft already on PlayStation before Microsoft bought them

Italiano12345672500d ago

So anyone can say that if they buy a game thats already on all platforms. Big deal.

DiRtY2500d ago

The difference is that MS supported the PlayStation version just like the ones on PC and Xbox.

Or Wasteland 3 or The Bard’s Tale or Psychonauts... MS still releases these games on PS4 and that is not a given.

UltraNova2500d ago

Dirty,

Ask yourself, considering the huge ps4 Minecraft install base(almost double that of xbox1), did MS had any other choice than to keep supporting them?

Sony and any other competitor would do the same thing.

DiRtY2499d ago

double that of Xbox one?

Xbox One = 5.43 million
PS4 = 6.33 million
Xbox 360 = 9.82 million
PS3 = 6.05 million

And that is just tiny compared to PC and mobile. That is where the money is coming from.
Ask yourself, would there be a Minecraft installbase on PS4, if MS cut the support 5 years ago?

MS acquired them in 2014.
