Doom is hands down one of the most visually stunning games CoG has played. However, the issue with Doom lies in its gameplay.

Discover 10 timeless video games from the past that remain absolutely playable today. From Chrono Trigger to DOOM, these classics have aged like fine wine!
Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.
Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.
The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

The video game industry is already so creative, but one thing that can be improved is its handling of space.
After watching Scavengers Reign? The answer is unequivocally yes. I really want something out of left field but I think people are too afraid to shake things up.
It's what I love about Shadowrun and Black Mirror. Love, Death, and Robots proved that there's an audience for stuff that doesn't fit the mold.

The iconic demon-slaying shooter just got a corporate makeover—perfect for pretending to work!
There is plenty of non-combat focused gameplay in Doom (2016). There secretions that focus on platforming and/or exploration. I think the writer of this article probably doesn’t like the long kill times and combat arenas of Doom (2016). The game’s enemy are durable unlike the general foot-soldiers,”grunts” and “goons” fought in Call of Duty 4 and Uncharted.
I have been Doom twice firstly on ultra violence and then on nightmare. The game is challenging. However, I am used to playing shooters where the enemies take a bit of work to kill. I’ve beaten most Halo and Gears of War titles on this highest standard difficulties. I have also beaten resistance, Killzone & the Half-life games in hard.
Doom has zero issues it's gameplay though... you don't need a "rest" you go in and you play high adrenaline until you turn the game off. Doom doesn't need cut scenes or stealth sections or whatever else.
The reason I play Doom is to not get bad modern tropes like- walking sections, cut scenes, set pieces etc, all of which are a part of the games that author references.
I find this article borderline moronic.
I think this 'journalist' is somewhat missing the point of Doom, it's supposed to have 'restful' areas.
As we say in the UK, "what a twat!"
It's fricking DOOM fgs, what do you expect.
