Could a retro-only GameStop store help its struggling business? Or would it not be enough to garner interest to save the retail chain from sliding off the cliff for good?

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is getting cheaper but Call of Duty is leaving day-one access. Here’s what we think the price drop means for Xbox, PC Game Pass, and the future of the service.

Tech4Gamers writes: "A PlayStation Support assistant has confirmed that the 30-day timer implemented by the new DRM policy is part of an update and isn’t a bug. While responding to a fan’s query, PS support revealed that all games purchased digitally after March 2026 will be affected by this time limit.
If your PS4 or PS5 does not connect to the internet within 30 days, the game’s license will expire, and it won’t launch on the console unless the connection is restored. Hence, every digital game you purchase from now on will require an online check-in, or else you will lose ownership."
That is wild lol. Steam already does this for some games depending on the developer...but man...all digital games on ps5...
This has to be a mistake.
“Received word from an anonymous insider. The Sony DRM issue is unintentional. From what we gathered, Sony accidentally broke something while fixing an exploit. They've known about the confusing UI for a while, but didn't see it as urgent. Hoping for a clarifying statement now.”
The screenshot from the article is from an AI chat bot, there are plenty of screenshots floating around from actual human chat reps stating the opposite.
It this is real then I will never buy digital again and if the PS6 is digital only then it will be the first Playstation Console I wont buy
"Games will vanish" is click baity as hell...all you have to do is log in and the license is restored.
Maybe, but it'll completely screw the market and value of retro stuff. Why? Because these old things often need a simple fix, cleaning, or repair. Gamestop is not going to do that, and trust me when i say most customers know nothing about that either(even a lot of retro gamers) so whenever an old game or system comes through that didnt work, the customer is not gonna know they can just clean it, and gamestop is not going to bother. Given their scale we'd see a lot of collectible games and systems destroyed and tossed out because of that, making the existing ones skyrocket in price
Nope. They will offer bad pricing compared to mom & pop shops and will have a less authentic feel. Not to mention GameStop have to spend thousands in training to teach them about consoles, fake games and repro's, etc because to compete they need to take in the high dollar games. It just seems like a big panic move and they haven't thought it through at all
if its retro only there is no way it will work, they need to have at least half current games and the other half retro. most hardcore retro fans buy and sell online
A collector of games would have to be nuts to trade in an old console and old games. Some of these consoles and games are worth a pretty penny and rare to find. Gamestop will lowball you on the cartridge or console then turn around and sell it for the price that's listed on Ebay. Can the idiots at Gamestops reconditioning center even work on something like a Sega Saturn or an Atari Jaguar. I doubt it they can't even do a good job cleaning the inside of a PS4 and XB1. Knowing the idiots at the reconditioning center they would end up wrecking that Sega Saturn or Atari Jaguar.
Nope. Still the same company.
