People are frustrated and mad about the Epic Games Store and defending Steam. But why is there such ire about what is essentially one more option?

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is getting cheaper but Call of Duty is leaving day-one access. Here’s what we think the price drop means for Xbox, PC Game Pass, and the future of the service.

Tech4Gamers writes: "A PlayStation Support assistant has confirmed that the 30-day timer implemented by the new DRM policy is part of an update and isn’t a bug. While responding to a fan’s query, PS support revealed that all games purchased digitally after March 2026 will be affected by this time limit.
If your PS4 or PS5 does not connect to the internet within 30 days, the game’s license will expire, and it won’t launch on the console unless the connection is restored. Hence, every digital game you purchase from now on will require an online check-in, or else you will lose ownership."
That is wild lol. Steam already does this for some games depending on the developer...but man...all digital games on ps5...
This has to be a mistake.
“Received word from an anonymous insider. The Sony DRM issue is unintentional. From what we gathered, Sony accidentally broke something while fixing an exploit. They've known about the confusing UI for a while, but didn't see it as urgent. Hoping for a clarifying statement now.”
The screenshot from the article is from an AI chat bot, there are plenty of screenshots floating around from actual human chat reps stating the opposite.
It this is real then I will never buy digital again and if the PS6 is digital only then it will be the first Playstation Console I wont buy
"Games will vanish" is click baity as hell...all you have to do is log in and the license is restored.
You can't tell me what to do.
"It doesn’t have things like Big Picture Mode. Its Friends options are more limited. It doesn’t have the niceties people have grown accustomed to, like streaming hubs or easy ways to share information. Except, people seem to forget Steam wasn’t always like that. It took time to reach that point and become the behemoth it is today"
Why do people keep using this as an excuse for Epic's lack of features? All of this stuff is basic now, and with the amount of money Epic has, they could easily add it all to their platform in a week. That money they are throwing at companies to agree to a timed exclusivity deal could very easily be used to improve their platform.
I mean it's warranted when it's a situation like Shenmue 3 and when big AAA games like Borderlands 3 is Epic exclusive.
Kind of hard to call it one more option when they’re literally taking away all your other options by making so many games timed exclusives.
No I will not stop complaining about the Epic Games Store. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Personally I think the Epic store is very anti-consumer. The only good thing it has going for is the free game every week or two (which supposedly will end y 2019).
What they're doing is not competition and I will not support their business strategy when they are buying 3rd-party games and use that exclusivity for their store when they had no hand in the development to begin with.
No costumer likes timed-exclusive deals.
There are a few good things that has come out of this though. The Epic Store is practically going to be a beta test for alot of the PC games now. When they do come to Steam/GOG, we will be getting the best possible version with all the patches that will have ironed out bugs and improve performance. Add whatever DLCs they release that in the timeframe, and we will get the complete package.
Another good thing that had come out of this for me personally, is that I been able to tackle my backlog of games. I can easily hold out a year and play some games in my backlog along with whatever new games do come to Steam/GOG. There are so many games pumping out nowadays, I can easily be distracted by something else. Before I know it, one year will have passed for the timed exclusivity deal for whatever game I would still care about.
So ultimately in the end. I think all of this exclusivity deals are going to be pointless and will do nothing in the long run. People will wait for it to hit their preferred platform, don't underestimate the patience.
