Seriously at this point, come on Nintendo release 3DS games on the Switch.

They removed the dock, joy cons are permanently part of the mold, removed the HD rumble and motion sensor and it’ll retail for $199. Kinda pricey, considering what’s been removed and for $100 bucks more, you have a full Switch. but cheap considering the price of previous handhelds

If the sides can't be detached, why didn't they fix the layout? The right control stick on the normal Switch is painful to use because the layout also had to be usable as a JoyCon. That design limitation doesn't exist with this. It isn't even much smaller. Who is this for? WTF were they thinking? I honestly don't get it at all. This is almost as stupid as the XBox SAD.

Bahaha. Actually called this directly. Switch Lite = 2DS. A Switch lacking capabilities present on the original Switch to cut down the price instead of a price cut on existing hardware.

Now for Switch XL with capabilities not present on either and the segregation of titles going forward. Should be great. Plus a price point above the original Switch.

They did this same crap with 3DS. Glad I didn't invest in one based on the track record Nintendo has shown lately.

And one of the above posters is correct. It's really no longer a Switch so they might as well drop the name. Just another gimmick produced then with its head cut off from Nintendo.

No thank, I have my original Switch that also can play handheld and more.

No matter people will always be complaining. Yes this is a budget version, considero g theblack of HD Rumble and no detachable joycons, smaller screen and no capacity for docking. It's pretty obvious that this is designed for being a handheld version.
On the brightside it will be cheaper from the original switch and has a greater battery life.
Personally this version does not appeal to me. I prefer the original one. But kudos to you if you are interested in this version. Have fun

so where is the switch heavy? I want the console only version with beefed up resolution and graphics and no handheld screen. I plan to buy that version if i can. I swear the only reason i even want a switch is so i can play fire emblem if someone would make a competent clone of it with the medieval setting perma death and unique units that level up i wouldn't be so keen on nintendo at all.

I can't believe they wasted money and went through with this. It completely counters the entire point of the Switch. Being able to SWITCH from TV to Handheld seamlessly. Not to mention you are robbing players of a second controller out of the box. The Switch doesn't need a Lite version it's already fantastic as a portable. Longer battery life is definitely a plus but outside of that, you are getting way less value.

While I love Nintendo, I give this a big PASS.

Now that you cant Switch it to the T.V..the name of the system dont even apply anymore, that is the one feature that should never go anywhere. Alternatively they could just not have included the dock in the box..

While expected, I was hoping for also a home only version, perhaps a Roku sized console w/ the Pro controller for about $100 to $150 (perhaps bundled w/ a game). I’m not interested in on-the-go gaming.

Be interesting if the switch lite becomes the regular/most popular switch in sales from September onwards meaning gamers bought the original switch as a handheld device in the 1st place not as a console.

It will sell well, Mostly to mothers buying kids Xmas gifts with Pokemon. They will see Switch on both boxes, and then see the $100 price difference and pick up the lite considering they will also be buying the game for $60, they will choose to save a quick buck.

So why not just get a Switch and not dock it? At least you’ll always have an option if you need it.

I was finally considering buying a Switch at $199 then I saw no TV connection. I don’t play portable systems. You blew it Nintendo. You almost had a new customer.

Does this world exist where friends gather together to play the Switch? I've never seen it out in the wild.

The Switch has a serious issue with Joycons having to be repaired or replaced entirely because of drifting analogue sticks. Good luck with them being built in

I didn't missed much other than the normal WII U style d-pad...either way they'll be making money both with the lite model and an improved joy cons with Wii U d-pad later on.

Good to finally see this thing confirmed. This'll be a great option for those who only use the Switch in handheld mode. Here's hoping for a dedicated home console?

The main reason people buy the switch is because its a handheld, nothing more, if switch were a home console it would have sold like wii u, this is proof that switch belongs in the handheld portable category, they cant compete with sony or xbox, their fans are delusional.

This should be 50 dollars less considering what they took out. Smaller screen , no dock , no joy cons no hd rumble is 100$ less but to add joycons is 70$ . For a saving of 30$ you lost screen size, dock and hd rumble and gained a negligible amount of battery life.

I love how switch advertisements are always people sitting around gaming while there’s way more interesting real world shit happening around them. Hell with rock climbing, skateboarding, camping, I’ll be over here playing Mario kart on a rock.

The switch was a cramp fest for me, I'm expecting the Switch Lite to be worse for me.
For here in the UK, it's priced way to high for it to be great. (£199).
You may as well spend a little extra and get a docked version, with a game bundle (Seen that go for £240 before).

- No kickstand
- No docking
- Still 720p (w/out ability to dock)
- Battery life isn't much better, (which is important when it's the only method to play).
- No HD Rumble or IR camera
- No detachable controllers.
- Still no native Bluetooth support
This is a $150 console at best. My guess is they didn't want to go that low to cannibalize the DS sales.

complete waste imo. I don't care for laying while I'm out. There's no good games to just play on the road. I could care less about all the FF and DQ and other RPG games coming out for it. I just got my switch for TV playing Smash and others using my GC controller.

So this is a Xbox SAD addition of the Switch and people are all over it.

so it's $329 AUD but i can buy a normal switch with a dock and full feature set for $370 and often on sale for $340

It's meant to be targeting the budget concise but only comes in at $10 AUD less if you find a decent deal on the switch or $40 if you just buy it at a regular price point.

If it was $250 i would understand this more but right now i would say from a value perspective buy the switch every single time.
