Why Amazon Is a Sleeping Giant That Could Crush Stadia vs. xCloud

It could be the cloud gaming platform to rule them all.

masterfox2506d ago

Man they are dumb as hell regarding the video game industry, they don't realize what makes a game company successful are their games and let the people own the game and I mean own it and play whatever time they want it and not a damn rental subscription.

Spurg2506d ago

I have played all of the AAA games have have been out this year so far and I have traded all of them in. I only own Bloodstained and have £35 for the next AAA game I will buy.
Realistically, most gamers own just a handful of games, I own only 3 game which I keep. Games are ridiculously expensive and if you add all of the games I have played this year so far it will add up to £400-£500, if I'm willing to keep them. That is quite a lot considering games are just a luxury and a pass time.

The rental scheme is ideal for people who trade in games and only buy a handful. If you want to buy games the option is still present.

Maybe that's why all these subscription base models are popping up like crazy. 3rd party are sick of second hand sales and gamers don't seem to stick around long on games. Gamepass like subscriptions are for people who trade in games or never seem to complete games. Its almost alarming people are actually starting to eat up these subscriptions. Comes to show gamers these days just don't complete games or stick around. That's probably why MP, online and BR games have been incredibly huge this gen. Nobody can sit through story based, narritive driven games anymore.

@ANgelic, your comment is so sad yet, so true.

@Spurg
Yea but you had the freedom to buy the ones you wanted as long as you invested in the consoles you were interested in, instead of having to pay a monthly fee to each service provider and not being able to access their games unless you made monthly payments.

coldfire9842506d ago

@AngelicIceDiamond honestly in reality it has more to do with their lack of freedom on pricing. They seem to think that the gaming market wouldn't accept another $10 game price increase. Would you pay $79.99 for a new game? $89.99? Fact of the matter is all of this dlc and streaming, subscriptions, and games as a service is all in an effort to keep making money. In other industries they raise the price on goods as costs go up. But they seem to be unable to do that in the gaming industry.

AK912505d ago

@AngelicIceDiamond Um is that why the games selling the most this gen are SP games from Sony and Ninty and that BR is on the way out considering GaaS games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, PUBG are all a shadow of their former selves in terms of sales?

Not to mention absolute trashfire games like Fallout 76 and Anthem that keep messing up with every single update.

I have prime for 6$ a month and the only reason is for 2 day shipping. Prime Video sorta sucks though.

JeffGUNZ2505d ago

Man in the High Castle and Jack Ryan are solid watches on Prime Video if you haven't seen them yet.

Nu2505d ago

Jeff I'll have to check those out

What has Amazon even done with the developers like Double Helix that they bought a long while ago

AngelicIceDiamond2506d ago

They bought them out 5 years ago and literally have done nothing with them. Pointless acquisition unless Amazon really does announce a game service soon.

AK912505d ago

Game streaming isn't going to be the future of gaming anytime soon it doesn't matter if Amazon or any other company joins in it'll just be a waste of money.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing20d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit20d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing20d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9220d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
