The battle for the next generation is officially underway. Both Sony and Microsoft have offered up the first tantalising details of their next consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Project Scarlett, respectively, and a picture of the next generation is beginning to form.
New hardware means that fundamental adjustments to the ways that gamers play are coming, with the two tech giants vying for that all-important position underneath your television. The renewed 'battle for input one' really is the PS5 vs Xbox Project Scarlett; but which console will usher in revolution rather than mere iteration?

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

It's possible that MS could make a comeback. Anything is possible! The early rumblings indicate both consoles will be similar in power, which means it will come down to games. Right now Sony has the better track record in that department. MS needs to hit it out of the park every chance they get. Halo needs to return to form and these studios MS has been buying up have to churn out good games. A proper Fable with maybe a Kameo or Crimson Skies sequel thrown in with a new ip from MS Studios could be a winning formula.
Right now it just seems that MS needs too many things to go right in order for them to take the lead. Sony has the easier task of staying the course and focusing on their games in order to stay out front.
of course Sony will dominate. E3 showed that clearly. Sony has the everything and most important that they have all the world behind them.
Dominant maybe, but Xbox will do better at launch compared to the X1 release. To me it does not matter XBox will be my primary console and PS5 will be a secondary console for their exclusives only. More friends play on XBOX, better controller and i prefer the XBox OS integrated online services compared to the way sony makes online seem seperate.
Considering the crap they did at E3 2013 with the launch of Xbox One, it will be a very easy task to surpass themselves, besides they have two huge advantages they did not had before, that's game pass and The Studios they got this gen that are not releasing games for Sony or Nintendo next gen.
