Anthem Players Declare The Game "Dead" After A Long Period Of Suffering Delays And Issues

Anthem is a story for decades because of how the project was managed. Kotaku has a whole fascinating piece written on the development of Anthem behind the scenes and just saying it is a mess would be putting it mildly.

Last time I was this early, Anthem defenders told me the game was fun and F the critics

Rude-ro2448d ago

Had a good start.
Two weeks solid.. third week you hit the ceiling..
Then there is nothing to do.
And that is with putting in a solid grind.
The current state is not due to your prediction because no one knew where and when more content would drop.

At no point am I saying it was ever a 10 out of 10... it had its bugs etc.
But anyone that did venture into the game had more than enough to do to reach the end game.

indysurfn2448d ago

@Shadowraiden Your comment was priceless. Let me see some one top that one.

UltraNova2447d ago (Edited 2447d ago )

What good start are you referring to? The game was ripped to shreds from day 1 and onwards for the known and justified reasons. Seriously the only impressive thing I can think of regarding this game is how it still retails at full price...

FanboysKiller2447d ago

shadowraiden, haven't bought it yet but i'm sure when I play it after it joins ea access program my experience will be much better.

Sevir2447d ago

Let's not even front, This game didn't offer much in the way of content apart from great graphics and flying controls. The beta/ preview they did was only positive because it offered something promising... But anyone who's been through Destiny can tell you that this game was going to fail. It's bugs were numerous, loading numerous, map size small, content offerings meager, and even though it had a 15 hour story what was on offer in terms of loot was nothing to write home about.

The game still lacked content. And replayability especially since they don't have PVP.

Anyone with past experience could tell you that Bioware was I'll prepared for the work of sustaining Anthem. And this game will never recover, the bulk of Edmonton is now working on DA4, and a small handful is working on bugs for anthem before they can even get to the content roadmap they put out. And they can't even offer a timeline of when they'll get to that content.

The game is barren on PS4 and XBO is barely alive.

The game is dead. They didn't have the staff or the financial support to keep this game alive. Not like Bungie who grew to 700 staff to create content with multiple small teams to address bugs both big and small for the sandbox and meta game.

Especially in this work culture where EA cancels games and deletes developer studios from existence. They should have kept Bioware Montreal Open, let them come on to Anthem, with a small team of key members from Edmonton to support the shelf life of this game with content and bug fixes, while the bulk of Edmonton works on DA4.

Now EA will bleed money while they bank on DA4 being profitable. And if that game tanks being that it's in transition phase of Console generations, you can bet EA will halt further development of Bioware operations, shelf Anthem and close down the studio.

Such a sad world when reasonable comments like these are torn to shreds by sensationalized & angry comments. Honestly, anyone who calls the game "trash" or "fuck-all from the start," either has little grasp of reality, or is just hitching their wagon to the karma hate-train.

It's really cool to hate Anthem right now. Even articles like this are really just click-bait. It was always planned for Darrah, Gamble, etc to move back to DA4 (key word: BACK) . They were moved from DA4 to Anthem to help get Anthem out the door. Not to mention the, what, four people they just hired to work on Anthem's loot and progression. It's just taking Bioware longer to fix problems than the community wants.

Anthem didn't just die it was murdered.... Another victim of EA and Bioware. Crazy how Andromeda got the shaft in favor of this game and yet Anthem still ended up the same way. lol History is repeating itself.

gamer78042448d ago

honestly it wasn't built as a good game, it had the wrong direction trying to be like destiny instead of a bloware game.

execution172448d ago

Destiny's fault was the higher ups not liking the direction the game was going so they had to reboot the game midway through development on both games, D1 didn't really get good until a year later with the Taken King release, not sure about D2 since most of my die hard destiny friends don't play that much anymore

Godmars2902448d ago

And despite what are two examples now, evidence that regularly uses "crunch" if not has come to rely on it, they're still holding out hope for DA4.

UnSelf2448d ago

on netflix

unless they took it down

indysurfn2448d ago

They are hiding behind the six down votes they gave you. Feeling butt hurt AGAIN from defending these leaches on gaming. They voted with their money, and their words so 'forget em'.

I don't feel sorry for them. I do feel sorry for all the moms that went into a store and asked what was knew and popular but was not told about EA and their history of screwing gaming.

thorstein2448d ago

Playing the game and staying away from toxic people.

XiNatsuDragnel2447d ago

The majority of the fandom even their own are toxic

Kyizen2448d ago

Um no 50 million players dropping to 20 million doesnt mean dead...

indysurfn2448d ago

huh? That is a drop worse then any drop I have heard of.

UltraNova2447d ago (Edited 2447d ago )

Agreed, what happened to Apex's player pool was simply a saturated market stabilizing its self. In other words, too many BR games for a specific crowd, one that tends to stick to just one or maybe two BR games at a time.

AllMightyFox2448d ago

But didn't I just read an article how I should support EA and their new game Jedi Fallen Order ??

Yea right …. the gaming industry and media are jokes and no one is laughing

antz11042448d ago

Yeah....read the Kotaku expose. I hate to say it but this was mainly biowares doing.

AllMightyFox2447d ago

If you were a publisher of books … would you release a book you didn't read ?? of course not

EA is no different, they have more info on these games than any reviewer or news outlet …

EA is fully aware of what they launched to their audience and consumers, to give them a pass is shady at best and complicit at worst ….

Could Anthem live on? Tech allowing local server hosting existed, former executive producer says

BioWare's multiplayer shooter Anthem was terminated this week because EA no longer wanted to maintain servers for people to play the game on, and without them, no one can play the game. But the former executive producer of Anthem has revealed that BioWare had technology working, close to the game's release, that would enable us to host our own servers to play the game on.

EA/Bioware should allow us to host our own servers to let this game live on.

I'd be fine just playing it as a localhost and dumb as rocks AI bots. Just give me the choice.

Anthem Players Report Download Errors A Week Before Shutdown

BioWare and EA had previously said the game would be accessible to those who owned it until it shuts down on January 12.

Never buy online games unless there is some kind of refund policy.

Only days remain before EA will switch off the servers to BioWare's ill-fated multiplayer game

Time flies (like a Javelin suit): there are only 10 days left to play BioWare's ill-fated multiplayer game Anthem before the servers are switched off, presumably forever.

In my opinion, Anthem was a good IP that was worthy of a no man's sky or cyberpunk 2077 treatment.

To this day, their sub reddit is active and I was able to get into a game quickly a few weeks ago when I booted it up.

It is a shame EA and Bioware didn't want to give the game the overhaul it needed to turn it into a competent looter shooter.

GamerRN13d ago

They were close to releasing the overhauled version and then EA cancelled it

TheGamersDojo11d ago

I wholeheartedly agree. If ANY game deserved to get the rework/relaunch it deserved it was this one. More than literally any other. Even over FFXIV, No Mans Sky etc.

SlothLordPootus13d ago

I just finished this up a couple days ago. Although it's a bit repetitive and the story is meh, the game feels great to play. Even if you can only hop on the game for a couple hours before it shuts down, I think it's worth it.

chicken_in_the_corn13d ago

Really enjoyed this. Shame to see it go.

Software_Lover13d ago

I didnt know servers were still up. I could have been playing!!!

2nd comment attempt (1st doesn’t appear & this may register as duplicate):

They can spend billions to buy or get bought but they can’t spend a fraction of that to fix or overhaul a game that could have been truly special, smh.
