Does Left 4 Dead leave Gears 2 4 Dead in Multiplayer?

XboxOZ360: "Left 4 Dead has it's work cut out for it on release date. With a sea of already existing, tried and tested FPS games to choose from and probably one of the biggest months in gaming, what this game can offer will hopefully be a fresh alternative to what the console already has to offer. Personally I think this "underdog" here will leave GOW 2's Multiplayer aspect for dead due mainly to its intensity."

play both :P they both seem good fun in mutiplayer.

SeNiLe9116400d ago

Gears has the new horde mode that you'll have to work as a team to beat. Another thing, Gears is a third person shooter not a FPS as stated in this article, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Either way, they both look fun but Gears is where you'll find me.

XboxOZ3606400d ago

SUre, many will, the point is, what do you THINK and have you seen the footage of L4D's MP gameplay . .?

Daz6400d ago (Edited 6400d ago )

yeah i have and its looks fun but i be getting it on pc anyway.

Left 4 dead will be one of the best mutiplayer games i reckon, for coop.
hope it supports mods :P

lets wait and see.

XboxOZ3606400d ago

Well it's by Valve, so I'd imagine it does, and those that work will most likely be offered through XboxLIVE - one would hope . . . Valve has had the MP crown for many years on PC, so they'll be giving the console fans something to crow about, and will be pushing hard to grab some of the console online MP gaming off games like Gears etc.

SL1M DADDY6399d ago

I was not a fan of Gears MP and liked only the co-op mode and so I suspect the same will be said for me about Gears 2. Besides, who would not want to run around in MP mode shooting zombies all day? Heck, the co-op in L4D sounds better to me too.

Firstkn1ghT6400d ago

I'm more interested in L4D multiplayer than Gears multiplayer.

green6400d ago

Same here. The multiplayer is simply insane.

Immortal Kaim6400d ago

So just to make sure I understand, you can play as either the Humans or Zombies? Also If you have 3 other friends, you can play against 4 other player controlled Zombies?

green6400d ago

Correct. And the game has a very good A.I director that (depending on how good your team is) randomly spawns hords of zombies at varied difficulty and at random locations for you to defeat.

You can play 4 on 4 death match as 4 survivors and the other 4 the infected.Depending on which team wins the round the roles then get reversed.

TheIneffableBob6400d ago

There's a co-op mode and a versus mode.

In co-op, there are 4 survivor players and you play through the movie maps, which contain "boss" zombies.

In versus, there are 4 survivor players as well as 4 zombie players who play as one of the boss zombies. This mode is also played on the movie maps.

I still think Gears of War had the best multilayer for the 360 and still does until the release of Gears of War 2, its bring a hole lot more to us now then the last, wile still having the stuff we like in it, so i think this will top L4D easy.

BattleAxe6400d ago

You'll be more interested in Left 4 Dead multiplayer over Gears 2 multiplayer until it comes out on the PS3. Then you'll be more interested in Gears 2 Multiplayer :D

I wonder if COD: World At War copied this game a bit with their multi mode "Nazi Zombies"? The whole "small group survive against a hoard of zombies" thing? If so that is a complement by them to Left 4 Dead's concept.

I don't generally like online 'team-based' games because some people take it way to seriously, so I hope the offline AI does it justice.

Daz6400d ago (Edited 6400d ago )

remeber because a game has something simler it dont mean they copied, but who knows.

XboxOZ3606400d ago

I think you'll find many games "copy" other games ideas for section, especially if they WORK. I wouldn't go so far as saying 'copied' as a bad thing, but perhaps learnt might be a better statement . .?

By developers seeing what does and doesn't work, allows them to improve on that, and ideally push the other developers to do the same, rather than dish out the same stuff time after time.

Personally I think L4D is going to surprise many, and Gears 2 MP is good, but nowhere as intense and full-on as L4D's . . which will either win some over, or have them running for the light in the next room. Remember, copying or imitation is the highest form of flattery so they say.

Hunter866400d ago

Completly different style of multiplayer. Not even comparable. Both will be brilliant.

OG Left 4 Dead Creator Announces He's Working On A New Multiplayer Shooter

Following Left 4 Dead's undying legacy, the developer of the game shares that a new likewise project is in the works.

ZycoFox256d ago

L4D had potential to be so much more. The issue was that the release of the second game just one year after the first added a decent amount of content which was much needed, then there was nothing except for a few small content updates spread far between.

This is one of the only games I can think of that benefits from a yearly release, or at least a yearly DLC so it doesn't split the player base.

The games just got too samey and lack content.. it's a shame they didn't keep up the pace, I know you can download new maps but it doesn't change the overall game or add new enemies etc.

-Foxtrot255d ago

Regardless of what Valve officially said they didn’t need to do a sequel that fast, things could have easily been added to the original overtime and the sad thing is the characters and atmosphere of the original was better than the sequel. I mean we went from the dark, grim city streets to the sunny south where we are hitting massive menacing tanks with frying pans.

I honestly believe Valve killed it because it was a Turtle Rock game at its core and Valve wanted it to be known as an Valve only IP moving forward

They even brought back the original survivors just to kill one of them off (even though in the original they were heading North to Canada)

JEECE255d ago

Lol L4D2 came out in 2009, and you are saying it should have been a 2020s type live service game. It's just a great game, it doesn't need battle passes and skins.

This attitude is why devs are afraid to make any multiplayer game that isn't a live service.

Jingsing254d ago (Edited 254d ago )

Also in these current economic times live services is just a no go when people are being more frugal with their purchasing power. I don't do any subscription services anymore which means I can't do multiplayer on a console even if I wanted too. Something the console manufacturers should think about if they want to get players to even try their online stuff.

Gears of War 2 Remake was in development “10 years ago” but was scrapped by Xbox

Ayi Sanchez: "Old work. I did this 10 years ago now as part of a material test for a remaster of Gears of War 2 that never happened."

RaidenBlack429d ago

lolz,
hope we're still getting Gears 2 & 3 for PC, as per rumors

Cacabunga428d ago

Xbox always taking the right decisions

XiNatsuDragnel429d ago

Wow... just wow Microsoft sigh at it again 😑

Lightning77429d ago

Weird, in mean they had no studios to make anything really new so there's a part of me thats kinda glad they scrapped it. If they released this back then it would of gotten ridiculed for remakes and remastering stuff. Now they have new and interesting games so the collection is harmless.

CrimsonWing69428d ago

Geez, Xbox, something like that I would’ve bought Day 1. Great business decisions over there.

lucasnooker428d ago

10 years ago it wasn’t such a big deal. The games were only a few years old by that point

CrimsonWing69428d ago

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition came out in 2015 (essentially 10 years ago), having a follow-up to that on the then next-gen console would’ve absolutely been welcomed, in my book.

LoveSpuds428d ago

I can only assume the the Gears of War Remaster flopped so they decided to scrap the other remakes?

Seems short sighted to me as I really enjoyed the 1st remaster. Regardless, I'll snap up some remakes to play on my PS5.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies748d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken748d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing69748d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker748d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo748d ago (Edited 748d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing69748d ago (Edited 748d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos748d ago (Edited 748d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt748d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken748d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
