Anthem's Waning Playerbase Is Starting To Create Matchmaking Problems

Anthem is currently in limbo, with BioWare pushing back a number of its roadmap objectives while simultaneously trying to fix what currently ails the game (loot, loot and more loot).
Since players don’t know when fixes are coming, interest in the game appears to be tapering off at an increased pace, and that’s starting to come with a few noticeable issues for players that remain.

Alek832454d ago

SURPRISE! Releasing an unfinished product and making it worse every patch leads to players leaving your game, which leads to matchmaking issues.

rainslacker2453d ago

Things are changing I guess. They could manage that last gen for a while, but i think with more choices, people aren't just jumping on the next big thing because it's coming from a big name. There's a limited market to go around, and the more new IP's that show up, the more that aren't going to make a dent in the market. It's going to be a hard lesson for those publishers who don't diversify their portfolio, because if they happen to not have that one hit every 4-5 years which does phenomenally well, then they're going to be scrambling to find something to make money, while their investors start going to greener pastures. EA's been hit with a few high profile failures the past few years, and I'd like to think that they'd learn from it, but they have a long history of looking at the data, and coming to the completely wrong conclusion, and end up going harder at the things which are not going to be best in the long run.

shadowraiden2453d ago

well the big difference was we have Destiny 2 which is an amazing spot now after Forsaken Expansion and Division 2 which is also doing well so why play such a shitty inferior product that has nothing going for it at all

WelkinCole2452d ago

Blame EA. They rather not give money to EPIC than give Bioware the tools to give gamers a better game.

slavish02454d ago

They better ad crossplay since they basically have no road map. At least the few people that stay can suffer together 😂

Alek832453d ago

Yeah, I am not sure why this is not in game yet. Would at least solve the matchmaking issues, until more people leave anyway.

HTFY2453d ago

Agreed. It is tough finding GM3 groups on PC.
Not that it matters, 1 is still the fastest/best loot farm.

Still, since there is no PvP whatsoever, cross play is a must.

pandehz2453d ago (Edited 2453d ago )

We Are Family.

Kidding, got disowned long time ago when 2 of the 4 Javelins didnt even appear on the lvl rewards.

HTFY2453d ago

You know, they go and promise better communication only to go completely silent again.

The crap loot system, poor story, boring gameplay, and lack of QoL stuff are not the only things killing this game. BioWare seems to actively want to kill their own game. Now EA is announcing patches while Bioware just retweets the announcement? What is going on.

Alek832453d ago

Tell me about it! This is utter nonsense.
Their CM, @Darokaz is literally tweeting how frustrated he is with Sekiro after promising more Anthem communications, then retweets EA's tweet about the patch hours after EA tweeted it.

Pathetic.

HTFY2453d ago

Yeah. That pissed me off. I tweeted back at him and told him Anthem players are having the same issue because of lack of content and loot.

Germaximus2453d ago

This is a person that clearly never even played the game. Yet others that also haven't played the game will sit here and agree and act like they know wtf they're talking about.

HTFY2453d ago

You are a sad little basement dweller, aren't you? I have more hours in the game than their own CM, and probably you.

Alek832453d ago

LOL nice article, I especially like this:
"But barring the unlikely scenario of Anthem being a disaster, it’s safe to say the franchise will be around for a very long time."
Soooo. Things are about to get interesting.

pandehz2453d ago

The 1 year...sorry 10 year plan was to...

Sgt_Slaughter2452d ago

"10 year plan" any company executive who hears this in the future should stop everyone immediately and say NO because that's never a good idea.

kayoss2452d ago

Lets try to aim for the 10 weeks milestone before thinking about the 10 year plan. Baby steps.

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty9h ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan12h ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher10h ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty9h ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies124h ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

Could Anthem live on? Tech allowing local server hosting existed, former executive producer says

BioWare's multiplayer shooter Anthem was terminated this week because EA no longer wanted to maintain servers for people to play the game on, and without them, no one can play the game. But the former executive producer of Anthem has revealed that BioWare had technology working, close to the game's release, that would enable us to host our own servers to play the game on.

EA/Bioware should allow us to host our own servers to let this game live on.

Christopher1d 8h ago

I'd be fine just playing it as a localhost and dumb as rocks AI bots. Just give me the choice.
