Electronic Arts, what is the problem?

Electronic Arts infuriate me. In John Riccitiello they have one of the most perceptive, incisive and lucid managers in the whole of video gaming. Yet as a company they continue to underperform.

Sorry Bruce, but I disagree.

For the first time in years, EA have pushed the boat out.

Their sports games were the best recieved they been in some time, Mercs 2 was a flawed but still fun game, Dead Space was an underrated hit and Mirror's Edge looks to be a truely unique experience.

EA really impressed me this year, I've bought more EA games in the past year (Burnout Paradise, Mercs 2, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Rock Band)than I did all last gen!

I've never bought an EA game, well I lie, I bought FIFA97 back in the day,(it was a present really). I might buy Mirror's Edge and Dead Space in the future.

EA games this gen, burnout,madden09 and NHL09, all really great games.

edit: me either, it just came out of now where but it was really good and i played it for a wile, two player was the s***, the game was set up very nicely for two payers. ah... i remember like it was yesterday, madd memories.... : /

i never bought an EA game till i got army of two. i played it for about an hour and took it back. big pile of crap ! I promised i would never get a EA game....

but somehow i was convinced i would at least give dead space a try and i have to say, its one of the best games i have played this gen.

I played played fallout 3 for a bit, but i just needed my limb cutter fix. i just love the game.

Then on top of that, i played the mirror edge demo.. this was a game i was going to pass, but not now. this is going to be a day one buy for me to.

its funny but i think dead space and Mirrors edge kind of go hand in hand. after playing dead space which keeps me on the edge of my pants and gets my nerves all jumpy, i get a little fix of mirrors edge which i find very calm and almost soothing.

whatever EA are doing now, they are doing it right, i just hope they keep it up and don't go back to the crap they were throwing out before.

thanks EA for hearing the gamers, making the changes and delivering some great games ( i never thought i would say that. not long ago i was telling people to not buy their games, lol )

I have kind of the same thoughts about EA, although i have never really said i wasn't going to buy a game because of the publisher. the PS2 era was really bad for EA. They filled their library full of crappy licensed games, and from what I can remember thats about it. this gen, however they seem to be doing what they said they were doing; fixing things. And I'm glad to see it. The Mirrors Edge demo was so sweet, I wanted that game to rock and I was so glad that the controls were so silky smooth. If EA keeps the quality up they can be expecting more money from me and I have no problem with that.

I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise

We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.

Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.

Scissorman65d ago

it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.

This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
